Build Date 11/18 RST Crew Cab just found the rear window leak on the driver's side.  Have appt with my local dealer tomorrow morning.  Bought the truck slightly used at the end of May, and it's sat in my garage since because I'm working from home.  I came across this thread and decided to test it out.

That means all Trail Boss trucks will leak. I'm screwed. I haven't found a Trail Boss yet that doesn't start with 3.

I have a TB, but its the Custom Trim, no sliding window, no leak.   Just a thought, but if someone did a have a leak, is it an option to ask them to replace the sliding window with a fixed window?

I’ve seen a few people do it here and/ or on Facebook. Not sure if they used their own money or GM’s though. Seems like a shame to remove optional equipment to stay dry. Such a long running problem now...wonder what 2021 will bring.

It sure is and I want to believe they would make it right if they could but financially, with COVID19 and all the closures, I doubt it will be this year.  They are offering too many 4-6 month no payment incentives that suggest all of the manufacturers are desperate.  Maybe in 2021 if they engineer a better window, then they'll retroactively use it to replace any 19s & 20s still having the problem.  Salt on the wound is that  I've seen too many folks showing pictures of the scratches, rips and rubs that the techs make in removing and reinstalling these windows in their new trucks.  Apparently they have to get inside, crawl around the back of the cab to do it?

Side note, I was at a tire store the other day, getting a tire mounted to a rim for one of our other cars.  Those guys in the bays working in all this heat, they are covered in sweat & grease.  They get into customers cars like that all day long.   I was like - um yeah, I think if I ever have to come in and leave the vehicle for a new set of tires, if they have to get into my vehicle like that, I'll make habit of coming to have that work done in the Winter!

Yeah, they made a mess of mine fixing the leak. You have to drop the headliner to pull the cab spoiler...so just about everything inside gets man-handled. Left a bunch of fingerprints all over the headliner, and a few broken trim pieces. I can’t ****** anymore though, everything was made right and it’s been a year with no leaky so I’m happy.

I wouldn't put it past GM to try to buy their way out of a proper fix. Around 2007 or 2008 many GM cars were sold with heated windshield wash sprayers to help remove ice from windshields on cold mornings. Then somebody discovered these could cause fires. GM issued a recall and replaced the components. Turned out the fix was as bad as the components they replaced, so GM issues another recall. The fix the 2nd time was to remove the components and give each customer cash. The 2008 Saturn Outlook in currently driving until my Silverado arrives at the dealership is one of those cars that were affected.

Called my dealerships General Manager yesterday morning after being on hold for 40 minutes and 46 seconds with GM Executive Customer Care and hanging up assuming no one had any intention of answering.  Anyhow my dealerships Repair Manager is out for a Covid tests until at least monday if he is negative and the general manager I called was out on vacation(called his cell phone by accident-got to label peoples numbers better in my phone). He's going to call the after sales guy with GM to find out what to do next on Monday when he gets back into the office.  To recap my window experience so far-bought truck on halloween 2019- 19 days later discover window leak and huge stain on headline-after 3 unsuccessful attempts at TSB caulk job they finally got GM to agree to replace the rear window and the headliner.  It was the middle of February when they received the rear window and headliner(all the while I'm driving a chevy malibu loaner that can't haul anything other than a few bags of groceries). Now 9,667 miles later rear window is leaking again.  Its a 5.3 chevy silverado LTZ Z71 made in Mexico.

Just bought my truck, it's a July/20 production date from Indiana with the E4 slider. Hopefully that helps in mine not leaking.

My 18 LTZ was built in November 2018 and I bought it in December 2018.  It's nice when it's that new and not sitting on a lot for so long.

I hope your truck is leak free msaul37 and I hope GM can finally fix this issue because I'd like to consider a leftover 21 in about a year!

I have had my 2019 LT Crew (Ft Wayne build date August 2018) for over a year and now have noticed it does have dried water trails on both sides of the rear window. They were not always there. I doused it with a hose from all angles and I could only get a couple of drops coming down the window. The headliner is fine.

I'll wait till I need to bring the truck in for service but I dread the possibility of them screwing it up.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
