I am looking to buy soon and live in Tampa. What dealer did you go to? I bought my last Sierra at Ferman and went this weekend to Jim Browne GMC to test drive the AT4 and SLT model.

Today I purchased a new 2020 Sierra SLT 4x4.  Sticker was $60k.  I paid $45k. Thought that was pretty good.

I agree, you did well. I'd buy tomorrow at that price but I can't get the dealers around here (mass.) to agree.

Did you get any "special" discounts, ie miltary, lease etc.

I do not qualify for those.

Rebate, finance, GM loyalty, dealer disc. Lease loyalty would have gotten me another $1500.  Look at Auto Trader (Clearwater Florida) they have a 2020 SLT 4x4 premium ~ $58k MSRP. for $42,930.  W/lease loyalty

So I was looking at Truecar and came across these incentives. What do the highlighted items mean?

This is going to be long and I apologize.

Currently looking at a '19 RST Z71 Crew cab All Star. MSRP is $50,190. Sale price is $40,818, which includes $1000 auto show discount, package cash $2000, customer cash $3500, and price reduction below msrp $2872. That's awfully close to %20 off msrp. Which is fine and all.. but I have thoughts.. several thoughts.

I have supplier pricing, but the 'price below msrp' is literally the exact same number my supplier discount is on that truck. So I'm assuming I could get an identical '20 model--which are literally priced the same--except they don't have the 'price reduction' applied.. and just use my supplier discount those trucks.

I saw a '19 Silverado RST CC z71 a month ago priced at $38,765, and msrp was $52,875(-$14k difference, %73 of msrp). It was similarly equipped to the truck I'm interested in now, but it had an extra $2600 in mud flaps, trailering, and off road appearance packages that I wasn't interested in at all.

Which brings me to this. In my logical mind, I could have got that truck last month(without the packages I didn't want) for $36k.. Before anyone says it, I know dealers aren't going to take off the packages. This is just a thought if those packages were never put on that truck...

So if that dealer was willing to sell a brand new, more expensive truck for cheaper than a lesser-equipped version of the same one, I now have leverage, right? They were willing to sell a '19 at %73 msrp.. why not sell another truck at %73 msrp? ?

-----------------------

Other random; I want front bench seats, cloth interior.. do you guys know what i'd be losing if I didn't want the convenience 2(I realize all-star package has convenience 1), or any other techno packages? I'd still get heated mirrors and steering wheel, correct? I do NOT want the safety package, and trailering i'll never use. I wouldn't mind a black lt trail boss but don't want those all terrain tires.(whole reason for z71 is I want the suspension).

Thanks to anyone who read though all that and may have advice.

Why do you prefer front bench over console? I prefer console over bench because I’m a big guy and like to have somewhere to rest my leg,

I agree with you on packages though, there’s no need for all the packages

in aug I got 19 RST 4x4 all star conv 1 msrp was 48k my sell price was 35.6k and I am a nobody, would think they would be cheaper by now...….lots of factors go into why they do what they do.....could be sitting on lot for along time, just make offers and keep shopping

and that Z71 suspension has lot of haters, the TB uses different ranchos that are suppose to be better....Z71 does have 2spd transfer case if you want it but I wouldn't buy Z71 for suspension.....suspension is easy fix

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
