Sorry for the poor video but figured I would post it.  You can't just take the caps off the side mirrors like the K2's. You have to take the mirror out and the bezel around the mirror to access the clips that hold the cap on.

Why did you take them apart?

Funny you should mention that.  I Kind of hit the garage door opening backing in and it popped the cap off.  No other damage.  But to get the cap back on you have to take it apart.  No popping it back into place.

Ah. These 2019 are significantly wider than my 2015 was... it’s only a matter of time

I am glad that mine are power folding... they are at least 2" wider than my old 2008 Sierra, and I was nicking the 2008 about 2-3 times per year...

Wow. I was thinking of ordering some color matched ones for my RST. I guess it’s going to be a much more detailed install than I would have thought.

Thanks for the video.  Question, how do you push up on those first 4 tabs?  Looks to me like you showed pushing them from the top.  It clearly appears they need to be lifted.  Thank you!

You basically "tilt" the tab away so that it will release the mirror.  It will make sense when you get to that point.  Just take our time and do it in sunlight if you can so you can see well.

Nice Thank you for the tip!

I bought body color mirror caps for my 2019 Sierra AT4. I figured the dealer would maybe put on for a decent price since I overpaid for the truck and had several issues right off the bat with master cylinder having to be replaced 500 miles into a brand new truck.. blah blah blah. I’m still bitter about it so I’ll move on. I just want to tell you this video saved me $80 plus. I was able to follow your directions and your video made it super easy to remove and place new caps. I’m a physical therapist and have had several clients with tremors , central hand tremors etc and I wouldn’t apologize for it. Hell I’d brag that you were able to perform this better than anyone who doesn’t have tremors. That’s impressive to me. But I just want to thank you. Saved me. And made my truck look better.

When I bought my AT4 it came with the chrome caps shipped. They had “forgotten” to put the black ones in. I caught it on time and they replaced them in about 2 minutes. Guys took a flat head small screwdriver and popped them out of course probably broke the tabs of the chrome ones and then they popped the black ones in. Its faster but it does ruin the tabs of the ones removed.

Thank you for the work and post. Also glad for the tip that these dogs are just a bit wider. My 09 just makes it now. And the folding motors/gears are shot.

Tip for those buying a truck and want something minor changed on it. My last truck, I wanted a different grille and door handles than the SLT came with.  When getting a price on the truck, I said I'd  take it if they sell me the grille and handles at their cost and install at no charge. They agreed and did such.

So if there are a couple of things like those minor changes, get them agreed to in the deal. Of course this is a small town family owned and run dealership. You talk to the service manager on service major issues,  as he is working the lane with the other two writers and techs.

I could be wrong but I think it’s a 3 inch difference total. I did have a Tacoma that was quite a bit smaller in between so I may be misremembering. It’s pretty tight now.

Hi, just bought a pair of black side mirror covers.  How did you get the plastic piece off, in the video it was already off?

    Thanks Jerry

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.
    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
    • Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
