This happened to the previous owner twice. When I purchased the truck (right after the second engine blew) i replaced the engine. I inspected the catalytic converters and realized that they were hollowed out. I then put the cheapest cats money could buy on the truck. They blew out within a week and left me on the side of the road. I then paid up and got some good AP cats. Just recently I started getting my 420s & 430s again. I get a whistle that comes from the exhaust and i assume its just because there isn't a clear passageway. My pressure also builds up on high acceleration. Does anyone have an answer to why my truck burns through these things like nothing? cant be the engine because this is the 3rd engine that has blown them out.

Anything that isn't from GM or those high dollar Magnaflow cats just don't last.

Thats what I figured, but AP is a high dollar cat. I mean we are talking about $1500 for the part alone. Doesn’t make sense that it would just blow out after 4-5 months

Cats don't die on their own, they are murdered by the way the engine runs.

Also something I had a general idea of, but I can’t comprehend how 3 different engines have all blown out cats. Am I being too hard on the truck? I mean for the most part I don’t even get over 3k rpm. It just doesn’t make sense

It is not the engine itself but the sensors that control the fuel mixture. Are you swapping complete engines or just long blocks and using the original manifolds, sensors and accessories? Sounds like you may be running too rich causing the substrate to melt down

I have never replaced a cat. Figure it out or buy cats.

3 engines same think, check air intake for a Crack and letting in air. Are o2 sensors reading correctly and last check the rest of the exhaust system, if the truck sat for awhile maybe something has made a nest in the muffler

DO NOT BUY AP CATS. I bought AP cats for my 2015 Silverado. The Flange on the end of the Y pipe was made too small, it would not hook up. I bought them at WWW.PARTSGEEK.COM. Parts geek will not pay return shipping for any reason not their fault. If I wanted my $550.odd back I have to pay the $121.odd shipping. I did and because AP copped to the defect I got my money back, AP ignores my emails asking them to refund the shipping I paid to return their defective product. Don't buy from AP Exhaust.

I bought the GM cat Y pipe, it installed way easier than the AP POS and through this forum I was given the break-in instructions from GM; AP EXHAUST provides NO break in instructions.  I have had no codes since I installed the GM cats.

I emailed AP EXH. again today, I got a auto reply, we'll see what happens.

HI RICHARD!

My 20 15 Silverado is a insurance total rebuild. I hear GM disavows the VINs (and therefor the truck) of totals that are returned to service. I read about some recalls on 2015 trucks, air bags and the brake module needs to be reflashed for  the brakes going to non powered status. I run my VIN on the Gov't recall web site and get no hits. Can you run my VIN and see if I'm included? I suppose if me truck is affected I'd have to pay the dealer for the reflash, what about the air bag? TIA for any help you can afford me.

According to the VIS,  the truck does not have any warranty block or salvage title as far as GM knows. All campaigns are completed and listed as closed. Truck was sold new in Canada.

    • On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.
    • 2024 Chevrolet 2500 HD Custom 6.6 Gas Canadian built Truck  I tried to search for my previous thread on this topic but cant find it so my apoligies  for starting another one    #1   Since we have owned our truck purchased new it has this strange noise after using the remote start function  you press the remote start and you hear it start but right at the end of it starting it almost seems like it wants to start again after the truck is running .   There is no gap in time it is right at the end of the start . Almost sounds like when you have started a car/truck and its running and then you try and start it again and you get that grinding noise ,sort of     #2  You can only hear this if you are standing outside of the truck and near the truck  you cant hear it when you start the truck from inside  the cab . So it may very well be happening when starting the truck that way as in normally    #3   This only happens when it is started after sitting . For how long I don't know but it happens after sitting overnight for sure and it wont do it if you stop the engine after starting and then start it again  I have had it in to the Dealership before concerning this but they did not have the truck  when it was cold to hear it . Now its back in the Dealership left it overnight so they could possibly hear the problem . They said they tried and nothing happened . Well they did not know what they were listening for . I started the truck remotely and BINGO it makes the noise . Oh that sounds weird they say . We need to look into it ! I have left for this week at the Dealership    Does your 2024 2500 HD gas do this ?  Any of you fellas care to take the time and trouble to film this operation from a cold start  so I can hear what your sound like  Really  would like to know if this is anormal sound  Thank You Fellas !!
    • 2026 Z71.  The other day I was backing a trailer into the barn.  The alarm was going off just because the trailer was in the field of the warning sensors when you get too close to something.  For some reason now the warning alarm doesn't work anymore.  It used to go off when I was just normally backing my truck into garage.  I still have the guidelines in the back up camera.  Is there a button or something to push to turn the sound/Alarm on and off?  I have the touch screen in this truck.  There isn't a "P" on the dash except for the parking brake.  I can't find anything in the touch screen under settings or vehicle.  Thank you in advance.
    • Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.
    • I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.
