I just need to add this before I go crazy and scream when I see another person say flat spots in tires.

 

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FLAT SPOTS ON TIRES UNLESS IT SITS ON PAVEMENT FOR OVER A YEAR AND DRY ROTS A HARD FLAT SPOT.

 

this snake oil BS excuse is pure flat out lies trying to find some excuse for people might believe to hope they didn't buy a lemon.

 

 

ask yourself these questions:

 

1 did they just suddenly last year completely change how they make tires?

 

2 have you ever had flat spots on any other vehicle or tire you bought that you ever owned in your life?

 

3 did they change rubber so it suddenly acts differently then is has for the last 100 years?

 

4 has every truck you ever own developed flat spots when it sat in the driveway overnight? over 6 months? over a year?

 

5 does anyone really believe a brand new flexible tire suddenly becomes hard and flat spotted just from sitting on a car lot for 3 months?

 

6 don't you think if it was a flat spot BS, then a simple tire replacement would have fixed 98% of all these trucks already? but it didn't.

 

please for the love of god stop repeating the dealer BS about flat spot tires hoping we are that dumb to believe it, unfortunately it seams some of us reaching for a fix so bad that it seams we are. flat spot tires are hard spots from dry rot and the NEVER get better, the tire has to be discarded and replaced if it has a flat spot. but, and this is what the dealer and GM is hoping for, if you drive a vehicle with a vibration long enough you eventually get used to it and may not even notice it any more.

It didn't help. Should I be surprised.

Its actually worse. Now my wife feels it. My teeth are chattering. This is crazy. They said that they were replacing a tire because the belt separated from the tire. Ok? So the "NEW" tire is actually worse, or they don't know how to balance them. I'm more than livid. After being upside down on my other vehicle and trading it in on this one, I'm $50k in the hole and its a miserable drive.

I just changed my trans. mount to the TCI Auto Part# 952500 suggested in an earlier post. I went for a test drive & the vibration seems A LOT better, almost nil. You can still feel it in your arm on the console but just vaguely. It is still just a band-aid though. I can live with this minor vibration but iwonder if this problem will shorten the life of the trans.

there is no question about it, having a steady vibration like this will always cause excess wear in things like u-joints and possible early failure of parts in the rear end or tranny because something isn't turning in a smooth round rotation so something WILL fail because of it, maybe one or all things listed but its hard to say when or at what point it will be. it could just be minor things like seals constantly leaking (tranny, rear end) or repetitive repairs of the u-joints every few years or even as major as a tranny internal failure.

 

anything that rotates on a steady axis that is out of round or off balance is not going to create even forces on the things it is touching (seals) or connected to (parts) so there is no question it is not going to last as long as a truck without vibrations.

 

the only unknown question is if things that definitely WILL fail, will fail while still under warranty or just after the warranty runs out.

Page 200!! And still no word from GM , not even a "we are aware and working to remedy". Every day I repete to my self, "my truck doesn't vibrate ,my truck doesn't vibrate, my truck doesn't vibrate". I rarely take it on the interstate. Who's going to be the first to start a class action lawsuit? :rant:

This could even be a radial or needle bearing that's out of spec or a cheaper supplier to cut cost, that is now allowing something to spin out of round.

As the bearing or race heats up, it is vibrating from heat or lack of lubricant at source.

This could cause shuddering and shift issues at lower rpm from tranny pump seal failures. So in a nut shell, if this problem is not found, yes there will be early failure to something in your driveline/tranny.

 

It has been a year now, they must know what is wrong and implementing a change or fix, however these early trucks owners may never see or get the fix though.

 

In my area, GM dealers are putting stickers on the Sierra's windows that read.

"One year exchange warranty" This is proof GM and dealers are up to speed about these trucks and the mechanical issues now rampant throughout this new model.

This is without a doubt why I seeked a buy back from GM and bought a Ram ecodiesel truck that drives very nice with good shifting and fuel numbers to boot!

If it is the transmission in most of these trucks then what? I highly doubt GM is going to start replacing everyone's transmission, wow that would be a bit pricey. Tearing into them and repairing/replacing parts, maybe.

You would think that if GM knew how to fix the vibrations and shakes they wouldn't be allowing dealerships to replace entire rear ends.

I hope my 2015 doesn't have or develop these issues because it may end up falling off a steep cliff.

Are these stickers on brand new 2014's? You got to get a picture of that, are you serious!

My 2nd go around at dealership. They road force tested my tires. My back ones were like 12lbs and my front right was around 42lbs. He was able to get it down to around 28lbs for the front right and 8 on the rears. My vibrations seems a little less intense, but is still there.

 

Class action my butt. Who ever keeps saying it is obviously too lazy to do it themselves.

 

Best thing to do is start a petition. And start spreading it around to every forum for people to come to your petition webpage. Once you have a enough, take it to the news media and start having them broadcast the issue for you. Not everyone that has one of these trucks goes to Forums.

I said it . Lazy has nothing to do with it. I m going another route. Only your second go around with the dealer? Boy , I remember those good ole days. And by the way I did contact my local news station and filed a statement on this very problem with GM and the dealer. They pick up consumer related stories from now and then. If your going another route, then why say that a class action lawsuit needs to be done?

 

And yes, this is my only 2nd go around with the dealer. The truck is only two weeks old and I've been in the dealership twice in the last 3 days. I'm going to try and get through as many attempts until a buy back is offered. How many more visits is that? No IDEA.

it starts with youtube videos, that's something that reaches the masses and cant be censored or decided not to report about because tv stations don't want to lose advertising revenues. they don't come out and report anything negative about any auto maker unless its a safety issue that people get hurt over.

 

get a few hundred youtube videos reporting exactly how they treated you and the lies and BS you have to deal with and hundreds of thousands of potential vehicle buyers will buy something else not wanting to be treated the same way. that is where the average joe has power today because on youtube you are your own reporter and you can report about things honestly without censorship.

 

as to class action, that's easy, the lawyers are the ones who get silly rich on those and if a handful of people want to join in a class action against GM then lawyers will see the dollar signs and fight to be the one to lead the way on the money grab. all it takes is 5 or 6 people for starting a class action lawsuit and then once the word gets out, thousands more will want to join in. I bet the majority who post on this website will sign on to it once the class action lawsuit is started. as to what is to be gained by it I think the best to be hoped for is a forced by back on demand by anyone have vibration issues is all the owners can hope for, you wont be able to show you were damaged in any way by it so there is nothing you can claim as a bonus for your aggravation over it all. the lawyers on the other hand will be paid a couple thousand in legal fees for every member of the class action that joins so the lawyers can make millions on this so they will be very happy to represent a class action.

 

the ONE THING that GM wants to avoid at all cost is for the word to get out and the general public starts to hear about what is going on with these trucks and how customers who bought them are being treated.

all forms of social media should be where you and everyone you know, should start spending a lot of time spreading the word far and wide about whats going on with these trucks because only then will GM be under any pressure to treat us right because they will know people are paying attention and it will directly reflect on their future vehicle sales.

When will you be starting this?

Who said anything of the sort that I would be doing it. I said that those here that keep asking for a class action lawsuit, for them to get it started. I'm just here to whine about my shake rattle and roll that I just picked up two weeks ago.

    • Did the KYBs keep it the same height in the front? I was concerned that pre-assembled assembly would raise it up an inch to standard non-z60 height.. I guess which it would make the rake 1 inch instead of 2 inches.
    • Thank you for keeping the train on the tracks and for a thoughtful engagement. I enjoyed the reflection on a previous stance to refine and improve your position. I like that inquisitive flexibility about you Atlas.    No the process isn't sterile. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles of piping, vessels, pumps. Chevron, the people I worked for, were keenly aware that there is a market for what is known as their "ISOCLEAN" line of lubricants. These are lubricants that are the same as those sold bulk that are further processed by filtration to a level your particular application demands. They will filter and package and provide lab documentation as required. Do not kid yourself. Every gallon of oil that goes into a Chevron Turbine, reciprocating compressor, generator is prefiltered and tested before being charged. Lest wise it was when I was there in the plants I worked in.    There are requirements set by manufactures for the cleanliness of the oils used in their equipment. OTR such as CUMMINS has standards shared with customers on this. Commercial interest selling to Ma and Pa do, but don't share that information. Not even upon request but internally, they do exist.    The GM study sited, (Graph from Machinery Lubrication in previous post) only shows "relative" importance.  I find that fascinating. By constructing the graph like this they admit there are dozens of factors in engine life and via scientific method determined the effect of 'relative cleanliness' on engine life not in miles but in 'FACTORS'. This allows a certain amount of reverse engineering does it not?   They even provided some touchstones. Beta 75 as a reference point. Wonderful stuff!!   Smaller blenders CAN and some DO take the time and effort to do better than a refinery or large bulk blender, like Warren Oil, in improving the "in the can" cleanliness. No I don't have a list but testing could generate that information.    Again, but one of several levers we can pull to improve engine life. The simplest is keeping a clean work station while doing your own oil changes.

    • I just spent the last 45K miles doing samples every oil change over more than a full year to get the data for seasons and break-in to broke in.    I found the same thing to be true. Something was always teetering on done or had stepped off the cliff long before the OLM was DOA. In fact, I found about a thousand mile difference between summer and winter. That is during the winter half the OLM was STILL too long. Even the severe schedule was to long in the winter.   Now having done the work I can say I was NOT DISAPOINTED. I saw nothing I didn't already know. Nothing my father hadn't already demonstrated in his 2K OCI's pushing dated iron on dated oils and weak filters to mileages well beyond 300K.   Building on his work through use of Lab testing it wasn't hard to find the correlation between 'sight/feel/odor, the things dad relied on, and test results. Use of current viscosity stable chemistries & filters has pushed that marker for my motors out to 3K summer, 4K winter.    So the early lies were 3K on conventional oil and the lie upon the lie was 7K+. turns out to be off by a factor of two.    So... it is true that modern chemistry has doubled the useful oil life. But the base milage that came from was off by double. It's how good lies work. Partly true, sometimes mostly true so that your meter isn't set off. It also means that non-shear-stable shelf oils are only now as good as the old oils were in their best case scenario.    So the question now is how do we improve on that? Thus the question into cleanliness among the other items listed in the post quoted below.    If this bores you, feel free not to participate.       
    • Is it though?  Like LTZ, not a high take rate.  Current Sierra has AT4, Denali and Elevation as its main bread winners.  Each trim accounting for 25-35% of sales for Sierra.  SLT makes up about 10-15% at best.        Like others have predicted here for GMC, it will be:   - Pro (equal to WT Chevy)   - Elevation (replaces SLE and SLT)   - AT4 (and X)   - Denali (and Ultimate).
