Those Ford guys got nothing on us. We have 308 pages more than them. Bahaha. But seriously wow it's like I was reading this thread all over again. Like Wrench589 was saying a few paged back its like Ford tried to one up GM and yet again the consumer loses...

Well my truck is at the dealer in Arlington , TX for the 3rd time. It's the same runaround I wold expect from a company with no spine. "Nothing out of the ordinary" doesn't not mean it's right. just means the rest ov the vehicles are just as bad. I think they are as frustrated aa I am GM for not having answers of avoiding the situation.

They loaned me a 2016 Sierra Crew cab, and it doesn't shake, but ever so slightly. Much less than my truck. But it's not a Z71, not a Dble Cab, has diff wheels and tires, not sure what rear diff .....so it's an apples and oranges comparision.

They may be letting me drive it with the PICOmeter installed to get some data....As an engineer, I'm not opposed to it, but I'm not doing their jobs........we shall see

I dont think we can even start to compare what 2 or 3 guys think they "might" feel in their 2015 F-150 and what's going on with this enormous GM vibration issue. From what I understand, Ford's new F150 uses the same frame, drivetrain, and suspension as their 09 - 14 trucks which had been solid...they redesigned the body panels making them aluminum, completely redesigned the interior, and the front grill, and front and rear lights. There are reports of poor fitted body panels in the 15 F-150's but I'm betting they dont have a vibration issue on their hands like GM does still.

Well first trip to the dealership for my 2015 sierra 1500 crew cab sle 5.3 with 3.42 gears for my vibration in steering wheel and center counsel at 70-80 and of course the dealership says they dont notice anything out of the ordinary.. Im furious to say the least. Guess ill have to take one of there technicians cor a ride and put it in there face.. Also have a very noticeable gear noise coming out of the cront diff when in 4x4 and taking off from a dead stop and of course they said they didnt notice anything there either.. Is gm telling these dealerships not to confirm this problem?

I posted nearly the same thing on this forum about my Silverado. It's a symptom of these thinner bodied trucks I guess as manufacturers try to cut weight.

True, in my Silverado I "felt" Harley exhaust, and louder cars throuhg the floor and pedal. In my Ford, I can actually feel the wiper blades in my gas pedal and when stopped with the foot on the brake. Ford trucks do transmit road to the drivers foot, but I wouldn't call it a vibration. It seems to lesen quite a bit after 5 or 6 thousand miles too. Total different suspension and like they say..they ride like trucks. It took me a while to accept that after driving GM trucks for so long. But, I like the ride a Ford gives and it is much better than the 14 GM I had. In the Ford you just know you're driving a truck, in my 14 Silverado you knew you were driving something with some sort of problem. I keep checking back in here in hopes there's a posted fix and that it's behind everyone now but that doesn;t look to be the case. I do think that as trucks get lighter and lighter, we're all going to "feel" more regardless of brand. The Govt is forcing the manufacturer's hands with little time to vet out the design and it's impact on ride.

And to add to that, let's not forget that GM was basically broke not that long ago. So much so, that they could not afford to develop a new body and a new chassis when they came out with the previous truck body style in 2007. So, they choose to do the body style and leave the chassis, until the 2014 "total redesign". Combined with coming out of near-bankruptcy and the ignition switch fiasco, I'm sure GM isn't exactly flush with cash. So, it really starts to look like they cut as many corners on development costs as they could on these trucks. And it is showing up in these owner comfort issues.

 

Make no mistake - major auto makers make trade-off decisions every day, always at the expense of the consumer. The ignition switch is a perfect example. Imagine some engineer says he needs another million dollars and 3 more months to fully test all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and the product manager says "screw that. NVH isn't a safety issue, so we'll save the money, and most customers wont even know the difference. Those that do, we'll dance around with them till they either get frustrated and go away or get frustrated and trade it off on a Ford. The remaining few that we have to buy back, well, we'll buy them back and put them back on the lot. Won't cost much and and and...." Blah blah blah. They can rationalize anything to make a bad decision!

If the multinational corporations lobbyists such as GM have their way, this is exactly what will happen. Just give it a matter of time and if you miss a car payment, fail to register it for new tags, or fail to get a smog inspection, GM's On-Star system will make the vehicle inoperable and it'll get towed. It'll all be linked to some branch of government in one way or another.

 

No different than owning a house only to watch it being taken away by use of eminent domain or form of lawful seizure.

Wow, what a twist. So, it's the software in the vehicle GM claims is copyright protected, and by extension, so is the entire vehicle. Well, I can see the software portion of it. We all own computers, phones, tablets, and every one of those devices base software on it that is copyright protected and everyone clicks the yes box and has no complaints about it. Why should a car be any different.

 

But extended it to the entire car is ridiculous. Again using the computer analogy, Microsoft doesn't claim to own the hardware. That is still mine, to do what I want. But, Microsoft has locked down the Windows operating system such that the user cannot monkey with the code. If GM want to lock down the code, go ahead. But the vehicle hardware is still mine.

 

To flip,it around, if GM is claiming they still own the vehicle, how far does liability of that ownership go? Is GM going to take responsibility if that vehicle is used in a crime, let's say? Or gets a photo radar ticket? Of course not, they will rely on the terms and conditions of the sales agreement to say the operator has that responsibility.

 

But here's what it comes down to. If GM what's to go this way, then they have every right to eliminate sales contracts and instead have licensing agreements. My expectoration is that regulators force GM to be fully transparent to consumers so they realize they are not buying it, but licensing it. Then, let market forces dictate. As we see in computers and other devices, some folks refuse to buy Apple products because the OS is locked down, so they buy Android because of it more open architecture. Likewise some folks use Linux instead of Windows. My guess is GMs competitors will exploit this and offer alternatives to the market, so people will start to select what they buy based on what software it runs, not the actual brand per se.

 

Still, the whole idea is disgusting. Who does GM think they are. Assholes! (Pardon my language, but really....)

 

BTW, my meds aren't strong enough to make a difference on this!! Lol!

Makes me wish I had my 84 model back! I sometimes think about going out and buying a simple carb ran 70's to early 80's truck just to keep in the back yard because of crap like this.

Update just got back from dealer. Look at the bearings in rear diff..yes they are too small for it, so when pressed on they spread out. Looks like this may become a recall ...just so that everyone knows they have been working on a fix...it looks like it might soon be here. Waiting on simms as new gear set is bigger. Should get back truck on tuesday. It looks like a bad batch of bearings that where too small. I hope that this fixes my shakes.

Very interesting. May explain a lot. Do know if he issue is bad quality bearings, or the bearings are too small (ie bad engineering)? Upsizing bearings can be challenging as the housing usually dictates the size of the bearing. They may have to re-design the entire rear end housing. If it's the axle bearings or the pinion bearing in the carrier, then the entire carrier whole need to be changed to accommodate larger bearing(s). All very do-able at a cost.

 

Let's keep our fingers crossed that this is the problem and GM steps up and fixes it!

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
