Some have been fixed, some have been improved and others have shown no improvement at all. And worst case scenario the dealers have refused to help at all. I'm glad my dealer is not in that category, they have been great throughout this process.

I read a majority of it. Didn't look promising.

Unlike Bill, I've had no luck with anyone My dealer won't do anything because Government Motors told them not to, I've called & emailed GM and they say that theres nothing they can do. I'm preparing to sue.

I was told they can see the vibration on the pico scope but its below the GM spec so there is nothing they can do. Les schwab has been more help than the dealer or GM. They have put 2 sets of wheels and 7 different tires got the road force down to 7 lbs on 3 tires and 0 on one tire. Still a vibration at 70, I know for a fact it is somewhere in the drive train, ring and pinion, slip yoke or maybe front cv shafts or combination but not the tires. I've bought gear oil and everything I need to open the rear end and take some measurements. I read on a different forum that 14's and early 15's made in mexico have slightly bent axels from when they were strapped down during shipping. I'd like to pull the front CV shafts and see if that eliminates the vibe but unfortunately they hold the front hubs onto the spindles. Maybe 2wd drive spindles will fit a 4x4 but not really an investment I want to make to try it out, especially since some 2wds have the same vibes, unfortunately different fixes work on different trucks so it could possibly by cv shafts on 4x4s where none of the other attempts have yielded any results. I haven't seen anyone on here with a 4x4 mention replacement of the front half shafts to try and fix the vibe.

Abominable z71- funny thing is the SM I'm dealing with doesn't think it's in the front end either. That's the only end of the truck they haven't had apart yet. I'm thinking either the front driveshaft, cva, or upper and lower a-arms are bent. Tomorrow is visit number four, and number three within the last 2 weeks. Hopefully the dealership and GM does me right.

Vibrations in the steering wheel are typically from the front however some report that steering wheel vibration going away after replacing the rear end. Which is odd. When it comes to the front end the rotating parts that could be the source. Wheels and tires, hubs, rotors, front cv shafts. The front drive shaft from the tcase to the diff doesn't spin while the truck is in 2 wd, but the cv shafts are always spinning, I miss the days of locking hubs, that could eliminate some of the front drive sources. I've considered the aluminum arms on these trucks being too light and transmitting vibrations that might be damped by steel arms doesn't seem likely though. I've given some thought to replacing the upper control arms with a steel ball joint version from Fabtech that they use with their 4 inch kit. It would help articulation and ball joint angles considering I have a leveling kit but I wouldn't be to hopeful with the vibrations being improved.

Where did you hear about the axles on the mexico plant trucks being bent? My truck is a late 14 CC 4x4 from Mexico, maybe that could be part of my problem? My rough idle according to the TSB should be fixed with a new high flow exhaust system specifically something to do with a cross causing resonance & back pressure in the cat. other than that, I'm still at a loss on my truck.

A few more things to watch out for when balancing wheels:

Chrome clad wheels or any wheel with some cladding on it should never be balanced with a an outer cone centering the wheel. The reason for that is that the cone may catch on the cladding itself and not center the wheel itself properly. Outer coning is not good method at all, even for plain steel and aluminum wheels. Make sure they center the wheel with a cone on the inside of the wheel and use a rubber lined pressure cup speed nut on the outside. Ideally, flange plates that hold the wheel by the lug nut holes on outside should be used for even more accurate balancing.

Sometimes it is necessary to use low taper centering cones, or even collets for centering the wheels. I still suspect that improper balancing accounts for at least some percentage of persistent problems here. Just because the balancer has road force measurement capability does not mean that the operator can get away with mounting the wheel improperly on the machine. If he does, you get improper balance and meaningless road force variation numbers.

Things that can cause improper balancing results:

1. Machine not secured to the floor properly or mounted on porous surface.

2. Improperly calibrated balancer or machine not calibrated for a long time.

3. Use of improper wheel centering techniques and/or hardware

4. Entering wheel parameters wrong into the machine

5. Balancer flange or threaded shaft not secured properly to the main shaft

6. Bent main shaft, damaged flange, or damaged threaded shaft.

7. Motor drive belt (if not direct drive machine like Coats) excessively loose

8. Use of poor quality centering cones and other hardware. Yes, centering cones must be machined to very high tolerances and be properly hardened to work correctly. When in doubt, ask for Haweka brand. Most American or German made cones are good quality, stay away from Chinese junk.

Jesse I've searched so many things and looked at so many different forums rearding these vibration issues I can't keep them all strait anymore. I came across one kind of smaller forum deep in the google search pages that I have been trying to find again where the OP said someone from the dealership "accidentally" left a piece of paper in his truck after numerous service attempts. The paper was supposedly a memo from GM circulating around about the vibration issues and known causes that they are remaining tight lipped about. I really wish I bookmarked it now. The OP said he would send a copy to anyone who wanted to see it. But it is the internet so you know the veracity of things on here. If I come across it again I'll make sure to get the link to you for your case.

I would actually like to see that Bulletin also.

thats good info, and intersting... no idea how I would be able to check that, but good to know nonetheless.

that would be correct, I just read it. here is a bulletin, I don't know if it is the exact one they specified.

Called my local lemon law lawyer. He said they have had quite a few shakers 14 to 15s. Dident give me a specific number though. Getting him the info tomorrow to start the process

    • I’m out of ideas on this truck. 2020 Silverado 1500. 5.3 135,000 miles. Has a p0308 and p050d codes. Smokes From exhaust when cold. Compression test passed. New plugs, wires and coil on cyl 8. Same issue. New coil on 8, no change. Replaced injectors, no change. Bore scope showed oil pooled on the piston after sitting overnight. Pulled head and had machine shop check it out. No cracks. Stem seals looked good, replaced anyways. He also ground valve seats. Put it all back together and still have the same issue. Bore scope shows oil on the piston again. Leaning towards maybe a cracked ring but unsure. Cylinder looked good when the head was off, no scoring or scratches. Any ideas on what else I should look for?  Appreciate the help
    • Just want to make sure it is covered by Special Coverage N232395310 Evaporative Emission Purge Pump 2021 Silverado 1500 Custom 2.7L L3B ~100k miles I'm getting DTCs P146B and P146F. VIN 3GCPWBEK2MGxxxxxx   I spoke to a person that works at GM and he said it is not covered after checking my VIN.   Is there anyone here who currently works for a GM/Chevrolet dealership and has access to GM Global Warranty Management / Investigate Vehicle History who could explain how the VIN eligibility is determined?   thank you
    • Thanks for all that information, I might purchase one and see if it will work for me, if not they may let me return it! Yes for sure the tires are definitely within limit for my truck empty, and when I do tow I'll definitely make sure to raise the rear psi for the amount of weight that's going to be on it.
    • Yes exactly, more and more these days people/companies are afraid of liability issues so its easier just to say no rather than risk putting their neck on the line.    I will say with the Autel unit or when I used it last year on my truck, it wasn't like I could choose the 2025 model year or even the 2024 model year as that option was not there to manipulate the placard pressures but had to go back to 2023 or there abouts and then it showed up as an option, odd but that was how the software was then and I can't say one way or the other now as they throw out updates every so often. I still would talk to your tire dealer though to start with and they may do it for nothing but also they may have a comment on a better unit to purchase. All I know is that one of the large tire shops in my area happens to use these Autel units for their use and set them up to use the wifi and all of that jazz for constant updating because each tire tech has one handed to them by the shop but I just plugged it into my laptop to update it and yes if one is bought it has to be registered so you can get the link to do updates and then the unit has to be updated before its even used. I am not at all techy so it took me a bit but anyway just a heads up for anything you buy, most likely it will need to be connected to a computer to access the internet to have it updated to the latest software version before you can put it to use.   If your truck is near empty, those tire pressures you listed are a very safe upper range pressures to carry the weight, both the front and rear as I know they could be run lower yet with an empty truck. And if its a trailer and not some motorcycle your going to strap onto the front of your truck on a rack, you shouldn't have a need to inflate your front tires if your at 55 front already, its the rear ones that would need more air if you have much hitch weight.
    • Thank you, I'll check that Autel scanner out and see if it will work for me! Ya I can see GM's point of view if they lower the psi set value for someone and the person sell's the truck and the new owner puts the factory tires back on then their could be liability issues cause the psi warning light wasn't coming on when the tires were under inflated for towing their load and then it might be able to be traced back to GM lowering it.
