I'll join this club...

My '14 GMC Sierra SLT AT CCRB 4x4 5.3 with nearly 24k miles vibrates. I bought it at 17k miles, certified pre-owned and never noticed any bad vibrations until my trip to Pittsburgh with my family.

With 3 adults in the truck the vibration at 75mph was horrible! Adding a 4th person made the vibration smooth out a touch. Needless to say I did not cruise at 75mph out there and back.

In the last 2 weeks it's developed a vibration/binding/moaning noise from the transmission to rear-end area under med-hard acceleration, while rolling or a stand still. The same day I noticed this, it sounded like something in rear-end was grinding while backing up out of a driveway.

Dealer can't get me in till the 13th of October... I guess I'll get the run around then.

EDIT: The MPG have fallen about 1-2MPG on average since that trip. I usually average around 17.5-18MPG to work and back all week, now I fight to get 16-16.5MPG. Maybe it's related to the issue? Idk.

Other Sources of Vibration

Very often the wheel/tire assemblies on a vehicle may be in balance but you can still feel a vibration. Here are some of the other causes of vibration:

  • Bent wheel
  • Tire out of round (radial or lateral runout)
  • Wheel-to-axle mounting error
  • Inconsistent tire sidewall stiffness (force variation)
  • Brake component wear or failure
  • Drive train or engine component wear or failure
  • Suspension wear or failure
  • Wheel bearing wear or failure
  • Wheel alignment is out

Your tire dealer can isolate many of these problems for you, and there is no question that determining whether the tire/wheel assemblies are good and in balance is the first place to start. However, ultimately this may not be the source of your vibration problem.

Hello all,

I am here to relate to all of the vibration issues that we are having with our trucks. Two weeks ago I bought a 2014 RCSB 5.3L Silverado. I bought the truck brand new with 8 miles on it. When I was driving home on the freeway I noticed the cab vibration when I approached 60 mph and we'll onto 75mph. Being that I was coming from a 2004 sierra with 100k miles that drove way smoother I knew this wasn't right.

I now have 650 miles on the truck and have been driving it to see if it would get better...it's not and it's getting worse. the cab shake is so bad and there is a faint drone noise that gives me a headache and oddly hurts my teeth when I travel at freeway speeds. I have a 5 mile freeway commute to work and am totally beat up when I get there.

Last week I went to the dealer and explained my issue. Service manager clearly was lying when he said "wow I have never heard of that problem" . This is a very high volume dealer also. I have an appt for next week to have the truck checked out. It very clear after reading all the complaints there is no fix for this as of yet and not really sure I want my truck torn into just to have the problem still be there or get worse by what some of you have wrote.

On a side note I have done a little troubleshooting by swapping wheels with a buddy who has a 2011 silverado that drives perfect. He has aftermarket 22" wheels so that's what I put on. We'll yep problem with my truck still exist even with his 22's so a out of balance tire or wheel is ruled out.

I have been a dedicated chevy owner for the last 20 years of my driving experiance. I even own a 1963 chevy c10 that my grandfather bought new...it also drives smoother at freeway speeds than my new 2014. I'm very disappointed in chevy about not figuring this out yet. I can almost not drive my truck anymore due to pain it causes me. If they can't fix it this will for sure be my last chevrolet. I'm total floored a 2014 chevy truck can be so shaken and vibrate that it causes pain in my teeth.

I also have spoken to two other 2014 silverado owners who one says his as been at the dealer many times for this issue and still not fixed and another that is ready to off his ASAP.

Just wanted to share my experiance on this bad deal with all of you as we all are suffering with our expensive trucks that drive like a worn out roller coaster.

TRUCK of the year!!!! What a joke...

Cheers

You know the sad part of this whole thing is I got my 2014 in January and they had the problem then but rather than stop production and fix the problem they just kept on producing bad trucks! I mean come on, someone should step-up and say enough is enough and make them pay for all the junk they are producing! Know wounder the recall list is over 3 million and still growing.

No, not 3 million, 30 million.

Not 3 million, but 30 million.

Could you image if ford, ram, nissan, or toyota started exploiting this in a commercial. Unlike the ________ our trucks don't vibrate or shake and in the event that they do, we don't call it normal!!

For what it's worth both ford and ram have had the same problem in the past. Not nearly as widespread as this GM problem but google _____ vibration and you'll see others from competitors with the same problem.

I feel terrible for y'all with the issue. I've test driven three Silverados. One had a real bad 70+ vibration, one a mild 40-50 vibe and the other didn't vibrate. I honestly think this issue is more widespread than the 20-25% reported on the forums. I hope they get this figured out in the future and get y'all fixed or bought back. It's really shocking how many people have this problem. The worst part is GM not standing by their product and taking a piss at loyal customers.

Can somebody start a Poll thread on who's truck vibrates and who's don't. I would but I'm not sure how to.

Yeah, they would probably like to mock GM a little over this but are probably afraid of the possiblity of repercussions some time down the road.

Just go to the forum you want.

Click start a new topic.

Then manage topic poll on the right.

I'm trying to post the poll as a new topic in this section ( not in this thread ) but I'm having trouble posting it.

If you do a poll remember that some people have a vibration but don't have a shake. My truck has a horrible vibration in my floorboards and accelerator pedal almost all the time but I only have the shake for about the first 1/2 to 1 mile after sitting for awhile and then it goes away. Just a thought, it's your poll do it the way you want though.

Edit: if you are unsuccessful PM me and I will attempt to setup a poll thread tomorrow.

I was interested in picking up a 2014 Silverado 1LT Z71/LT Plus Pkg with the 5.3L until I came across this forum and now I don't think that would be a wise choice; due to the incentives & rebates I can pick up a 2014 in the mid 30's. Is this vibration/skaking/moaning something I would notice right off the bat if I did choose to test drive?

Are some models/rims/gear setups more apt to having this problem?

From what the window sticker shows the final assembly of this Silverado was in Mexico, not sure if this has anything to do with it?

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
