Many stick on wheel balancing weights are not lead anymore, but steel. However, hammer on weights that are still used on inside of wheels on most vehicles are lead. They would be too large if they were steel. Lead is about 40% heavier than steel.

lead has been illegal for any wheel weight in California since 2007 other states have followed suit. many hammer on wheel weights are indeed steel also plastic, and yes very big compared to lead.

Well add me to the list of people who are frustrated with this rediculous problem. I have brought my truck in 4 times now, I have the same GY's that it came with and enough lead weight to band ducks for the next 1,000 years. I was told yesterday(after they had it for a week) that they are replacing the driveshaft. Somehow I am not convinced this will work but oh well. At least they have offered to by it back already. I will miss her.

Money back to buy what? Dodge..

Driveshafts require a special balancer. You need to find a place that rebuilds or makes custom driveshafts, they will most likely have a balancing machine. As mentioned , it is easy to check if the driveshaft is properly balanced. Balancing weights are typically spot welded onto the driveshaft.

I know a good guy I'm Harmony, N.J. (Warren County). He builds special driveshafts and does balancing of all them to. If your in this area I can get you his number.

they kept mine again - tech says may have to get GM involved they took a set of tires they have at the shop and put on it and she still vibrates like a washer on spin cycle. On side note tech I met with radio reception issues on his truck said the electric antenna cured his radio reception but says in running the coax he believes the issue may be interference and not the antenna on the truck.

Catch you'all later I gave up on getting a new truck after watching how you all are treated on this, GM should be ashamed how hard you have had to work to get a brand new truck fixed....

suggestion if I was in your shoes....you guys should figure out the email address to Mary Barra the head honcho at GM now, claims to have worked from the bottom up, if she is who she says she is on tv, she would not tolerate how long this thread has gone on for most of you. or send hand written letters to her with this link...Allot of them!!!

easy fix for me I bought a low mile used truck that drives right.

OK. Here is a new one. the Infotainment center display went out. Let it set off for 2 hours and it fixed itself.

I bet you are not entertained by that. Intermittent issues like this are the hardest to diagnose and fix.

Just an update on my vibration issues, after the bridgestones were installed still vibrates over 60. Not the v4 drone that happens, at least in mine do other people feel that?

The vibration is in the steering wheel, and floor, it feels like you are never in a smooth road, ever. Constant vibration in the steering wheel on the highway, over 2k on it and it did since day one, balancing the driveshaft did help a little, but feels like it is coming back. GM field service engineer said it was fixed and now dealership is saying there hands are tied and have to wait to here from district manager to see about a resolution.

How would other people describe there vibration?

Here is my strange issue with a vibration. I have only noticed a vibration a couple of times. On a trip last week I was coming home and all was good. I made a turn to go down my road and I started to feel the dreaded vibration. When I changed direction I was now traveling with a very strong tail wind and something felt strange. Trying to figure out what was going on, I turned around and headed back into the wind. Now all is good. Does not like strong tail winds except for the amazing gas mileage. What the hell is that all about. I do have a soft folding tonneau cover. Maybe it is fluttering or something and causing what I think to be a wheel out of balance. Most of the time, smooth as silk.

Since there was a tail wind you maybe feeling the vibration from when its in V4 mode. Just a thought

We are the customer. It is not our job to help them make a vehicle that works. I am sick of the crap you all have been dealt. I get my vehicle straightened out it is gone. The problem is all of the manufactures have heard what a piece of shit the Sierra is and you wont get crap out of it. Make them buy it back. Had it for a month and has been in shop 8 days. Done with them.

Care to elaborate on the Sierra being a piece of crap? Every manufacturer has problems. That is part of mass production. There is no such thing as zero defects.

OK. Here is a new one. the Infotainment center display went out. Let it set off for 2 hours and it fixed itself. Then I walk around to the front of the truck and I notice the bumper is pitted and starting to rust. New truck design and it rusts like the last two Sierras I had. Bought truck Dec 23 2013. What have I done. I think I will get the bugs worked out and trade for another brand. Truck is in shop overnight and 6 inches of snow expected. Joy Joy.

I swear, you must do drugs

Ok. Vibration and a drone at certain speeds they cant fix. Infotainment has quit twice and the instrument cluster is out now. Seat creaks when you go around corners. Still has the drive line clunk that has been in the GM for years they cant fix. Been in the shop too many times for too many days. Recall of catching fire fixed and rear sliding window regulator fixed. I have had it for 34 days. Cant enjoy driving at any speed. I think that covers it. I don't know when I get it back from the shop. Have loaner but making payments on the new truck.

    • Hi all,   I just bought a 2021 suburban RST with 88,000 miles on it and everything has been good but I’ve been noticing within the last month or so that there are small electrical things going on and I know what the AGM batteries and all the electric electrical in these big trucks you need to have a constant flow with good voltage   That being said, I bought a new battery thinking that that might have something to do with it but today I went to get in and start it and it said no key found when I had the key right in my pocket   It also proceeded to flash the lights inside and outside for over 30 minutes as I went to disconnect the battery as soon as I touch the negative terminal, I heard the relay reset and everything come back up. I got in the truck and started it no problem.   Anyone else have this happen to them? I’m starting to think it’s the KARR system that the dealer installed short circuit stuff.
    • I don't drive this truck on a regular basis since I have a new company truck with no out of pocket fuel or maintenance cost. Yesterday I got it out to run some errands and got the title message on my DCI. A quick Google search suggested to first clean the Map Sensor. I pulled it out and it was sooty so cleaned it up and reinstalled it. Issue not resolved. My OBDII is a couple years old so didn't see any codes. Today I took it to a friend at AutoZone to get him to check it with his reader. It had the following codes: P20C3 P02BB P221F Stating the most likely solution is to replace diesel emission fluid (DEF) tank assembly.   So, I guess a trip to the dealer is necessary. I read where there was a backorder on these tank assemblies several years ago so hope that has been resolved.
    • Are you using a weight distribution hitch system with your trailer as that alone can change the actual tire pressure requirements needed. It would prove interesting to see what the actual individual axle weights are on your truck when you are hooked up to the trailer. In fact when your hooked to the trailer, typically if anything unless it has a large capacity weight distribution system that is over cranked, often the weight on the front axle will be less when hooked up vs driving empty and certainly if one doesn't have a weight distribution hitch. Really the only times one may get up there with weight on the steer axle is if there was a snow plow mounted on the front or a motorcycle on a rack or with a very large jockey tank full of fuel at the front of the box that transfers a bit of its weight to the front axle.    And of course your tires carry more weight for a given tire pressure due to their size vs a stock sized tire so there is that to take into the equation as well.
    • Great info here thank you. I just joined, we have a 2014 Silverado truck we bought about 4 years ago with less than 5,000 miles on it. It has approximately 24,000 on it now. It appears to have all the standard issues that people are talking about. Occasional charging problems especially using 110 volt, occasional blinking triangle where nothing will turn on when first starting the truck but it will reset itself if you wait 10 to 15 minutes. Noisy coupler between the flywheel and the generator. Our truck is speed limited to 74 mph, is there any way to change that? The latest issue we have been dealing with is when driving long distance on the highway at full speed the generator does not keep the batteries charged. The meter will go into the yellow/red border Zone for charge status and the yellow triangle will illuminate solid but the generator will not keep the battery charged, not sure why the controller doesn't tell the gas engine to increase RPM to increase generator output it usually stays well below 25 kilowatts even though the battery is discharging and I have to slow down the highway to 45 mph and eventually pull over and let the truck idle to charge the battery so I can continue driving at speed. Has anyone had this issue before or have any idea how to diagnosed it? When via Motors was around it they were very helpful at troubleshooting. This becomes much if the Terrain is hilly and you're towing a small trailer
    • I have the GMC accessory (REV) cover installed by dealer. Ordered with the truck.  They did a very good install job, can't find a single issue. Some water gets in around the tailgate but no where else.  You can see daylight around the tailgate but that's not the covers fault.  Installation is means everything. Guys at my dealer were seasoned pros, not inexperienced here today good tomorrow types, like many dealers employ for these jobs.   I don't mind paying for a professional job.
