High frequency noise coming from dash when in 4WD

Glad you guys have found an excellent workaround for this. Once it's above freezing I'm definitely going to wrap mine.

Of all the executive decision makers at GM, how do none of them have their own K2 or know someone who drives one and is suffering through this high freq noise? It blows my mind that at least one of them isn't so bothered by this that they step up and make their company find a solution.

One scientific thing to keep in mind is that as you get older, your high frequency hearing goes away. I'd imagine most "executive decision makers at GM" are older, and don't know it's a problem. Not a fault of theirs, they just can't hear it. However, it sucks for us folk with excellent hearing that has to hear this bzzzzzzzzwheeeeeeeeeebzzzzzzzzzzz crap.

Glad I could help !!! Did I mention I got the dealership (not gm) to drive me down to the parts store any purchase the dynamat ?

Even the used car dealer said it was unacceptable ! I took it in twice for the chirp before I got frustrated.....and mcgivered something up myself.

Using a sound analyzer app on a smart phone, the "high pitched noise" is very obvious in the spectrum display at 15 kHz give or take a couple dozen Hertz. That is why older folks don't hear it (I'm 51 and don't hear it.. yes I've always taken care of my hearing), but my teenage kids do hear it. No dog in our family, but I feel sorry for Fido if you take him around with your GM truck.

Now, if I could get the dealer to turn down the start up chime volume, I'd be very happy...I've got it set to minimum, but this has no effect. I'm sure the entire neighborhood hears it when I start the truck in the morning.

I purchased a new 2015 Sierra last week and was going nuts about this noise until I found this forum. I am hearing the same electrical chirping in 4 Auto and 4 Highk accentuated by hitting the accelerator. I can confirm that many individuals cannot hear this noise due to the high frequency. The first service writer and technician that looked at it were in their late fifties and were unable to hear it.

I do not believe that it is acceptable to home-make a solution to this. I will be following up with GM and my dealer to understand:

a. why there hasn't been a service bulletin issued

b. why there hasn't been a recall

c. what will be done to actually fix the issue

I spent way too much on this truck not to make noise, I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger deal, but again I think that many people are simply unable to hear the noise.

Will keep posted.

I removed the TCCM and put two layers of the very expensive dynamat extreme peel and stick pads. I put the dynamat on the front, back and sides. There is absolutely no electronic chirp anymore. Best $40 I ever spent. It was driving me insane. I also avoided putting dynamat on the two lugs on the tccm that the body mount clips snap onto. It fits fine despite adding two layers to the outside.

Thanks to Samsquanch, I pulled the TCCM, wrapped it in a single layer of Dynamat (for proof of concept before adding a second layer, Amazon, $25) and reinstalled - the whole project took about 20 minutes. The high-frequency chirp is 95% gone - I had to strain to hear it with the radio off and have to think that wrapping it with a second layer will deaden the sound all together.

Guys, I just dynamatted my tccm with 2 layers of dynamat. Is there danger of this module over heating with the dynamat on it???

I just thought I'd throw this out there, I traded in my 2014 Silverado that I've had for just over three years for a 2016 Colorado Duramax 4x4. The same high pitched noise is still present, just in a different location. I suspect the TCCM is just in a different spot, but otherwise the same.

I had this noise in my 2016 and all 16 loaners I drove. In my replacement 2017 there is no noise. Just an FYI for everyone experiencing this... there might be a new part available.

I just noticed this electric chirping in auto and 4 hi all the way to work in the snow today on my 16 silverado. Has there been any update from GM on anew official sound deadening fix, or are we still in DIY mode with dynomat?

Is the TCCM in the same place on the 16 if I want to do the DIY?

Just noticed in my truck to. Can hear it over the radio and its definitely annoying to hear.

I hear it but I attributed it to the normal operation of the 4wd system. I have pretty good hearing but the noise isn't that loud to me. Must be less sensitive to high frequencies

I've had a few times now where I could hear it and a few times where I listened but heard nothing. Combined with the the terrible fm radio distoption and static, I'm just going good to start wearing ear muffs when I drive my 53 freaking thousand dollars truck

So I guess this is a "fix it yourself" issue. My only problem is, I'm not a fix it guy. Does this job require any kind of electrical knowledge, or is it just unscrew the box and screw it back?

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Was the dealer able to address this issue for anyone? Seems to be a common problem across all GM vehicles. I recently bought a 2016 Silverado and I choose not to use the 4x4 even when it's snowing because this noise drives me crazy! Completely unacceptable, would have been a deal breaker when I was buying the truck.
