issue The trouble begins, no start

Ive been a firm believer in gm products since the first chevy truck I got in 1983. This 2014 isn't off to a good start. 2 recall items, door panel rattling, dash rattling in 3 places and the something is wrong with the drivers side seat. When I called the dealer ship the sevice guy said my seat rattles in my car. Not a good answer. 35 thousand for a truck. It should be a little better than this. If it's rattling this much now then what's it going to be like in 3yrs.

Got my new truck Dec 31 ,2013.

Jan 1 2014 no start,

Jan 2 no start ,

jan 3 no start. did this off and on for 15 days

 

Had a to put a new starter on but they baked it in an oven first to make sure there was no water in it to make it freeze . was -10 up here at that time.

 

so far all is working

I too have had starting issues. Once, remote started with enormous cloud of black smoke then shut itself off two minutes later and wouldn't start with the key. An hour later started with check engine light. On another occasion, drove 35 minutes and parked at a store for about 15 min then it would not start. Towed to the dealer where it started immediately. Since then every remote start produces a large cloud of black smoke!

 

We cannot trust this truck! Absolutely not reliable!

Saw somewhere on the internet where it stated that a Gas direct injection engine will produce black smoke just like a diesel engine on cold start ups. Never noticed it with mine but it is typically dark when I get up to go to work and dark when I leave work. I have to work (slave away my life) a minimum of 12 hour days to afford one of these puppies. Punch in gas direct injection engines on your google search thing and see what you find. VROOOOMMM

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

BLACK SMOKE ON START UP ONLY.

With the introduction of direct fuel injection systems, GM has revised the cold start control system to reduce cold start emissions. Quicker catalytic converter heating helps meet the ever changing emission requirements and improve fuel economy.

Recommendation/Instructions:

A dual-pulse injection strategy is utilized during engine cold start to reduce the time required to bring the catalytic converter up to operating temperature. This split injection strategy lasts for about 60 seconds on cold start.

This process will cause the customer to see increased black smoke or soot during cold start and should be considered normal.

This cold start strategy is enabled upon start up after the engine has soaked for sufficient time such that the catalytic converter requires rapid reactivation.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed

Mine does the same thing. I posted a video as well, but you cant hear it cranking because of the noise of a drilling rig in the background.

While I'd agree with that sentiment on many subjects, I lay this on firmly at the feet of the EPA. Their ever tightening cold start emissions standards are the only reason GM went out of its way to do this.

Yes, but other auto makers are faced with the same issues too and seem to find a better solution.

Such as? This is a new line of engines GM plans to be making well into the future--and thus must meet not just current standards but the stricter ones coming soon. Reduction in cold start emissions is a big deal. Comparing them to old tech engines from other brands that'll be gone by then is meaningless. Wait until the competition comes out with their latest and greatest in the coming years and you'll see this more and more common.

Excatly the other brands may not be worrying about cold start emmission yet, GM is already on the board with new engine lines trying to get ahead of the game. As i said, this is normal and hurts nothing.

My dealer replaced all the Injectors and so far the start/black smoke problem appears to be fixed.

Okay thanks for the input. I have a list ready for them. I domt suppose you would be able to email me the work order if need be would you? I domt want to hear the "normal" excuse.
