I expect the dealer will do the TSB under warranty.

Here is where I'm at:

1) noticed peeling at 3200 miles.

2) sent pictures to Manager. Took it in for 3 day treatment

3) picked it up. Pointed out that they only did about 50% of frame.

4) they took it back for another day. Did a half ass job. Sprayed over rust.

5) the band aid coating starting peeling off on a couple spots within a week

6) now I treat the exposed areas myself.

Plan on taking it in right before warranty expires and have the re-do the whole thing

Hopefully the dealers get fed up with these tsb bandaids and make enough noise that GM ditches the shitty wax coating.

After a year, you'd hope they've already addressed the issue with the 2015 trucks.

I've been poking around reading about this 'wax' coating and the rust issues - and I haven't seen any complaints on 2015's.

It's a shame you guys have gotta deal with that. And like I said... send some emails or phone GMC/Chevy Corporate and complain. You can tell them that "Toyota is replacing frames due to rust issues". WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME and keep me in a GM truck?

Whatever it takes to put a bug up their ass! LOL

Wax doesn't chip like paint.

It just peels off like wax, especially after you apply it to a rusty surface.

Gm has used this wax shit for decades... my 86 Blazer would have had it but it's been gone for decades. Local dealer has an 86 Chev 4x4 1/2 ton they put in the show room every year... has just over 100 original miles... it's a time capsule. It's frame wax looks pretty good though lol!

Yes, it certainly seems there was a problem with the process which resulted in poorer than normal adhesion.

Yeah you gotta stay on top of the undercoating if you don't want rust. Read the multiple threads on here that discuss the problems and solutions to it. I drive my truck through salt all winter and washed the frame off maybe twice all that time. Zero rust other than a couple spots hidden by the spare. You can't rely on the factory wax. It's basically good enough to keep the frame from rusting before you get it home from the dealer.

And in case the frame already had surface rust on it when coated with wax at the factory, the wax will last long enough to hide the rust until you get the truck home. :bs:

Is this issue continuing on the 15s just bought a 15 serria all terrain about two weeks ago and looks good as of now. The only spots I have seen any rust is the bottom of the frame, were a guy would lift the truck up on a hoist. Were the pads would touch the frame and scuffed the wax coating. Other then that looks good.

Yep there are a few of us with 2015s that have this issue. Just keep a close eye on it. Sounds like you are in the clear. It usually starts peeling off in big chunks within 5k miles.

i got 5k miles on my 15 Built in may. wax is holding up really well. "knock on wood" ... Not to worried tho i always wash under my truck regularly i had a 04 and it had zero body rot, Very little frame surface rust when i finally traded it in. only thing that rotted out on that was the brake lines :banghead:

thank you for this post, I am so frustrated with GM as I am having the same problem. black 2014 gmc all terrain front metal bumpers paint is chipping off in flecks about dime size or better. Local Dealer said tough and im sol. Dealer sold it to me said bring it back and he would see what he could do but it sounds like rock chips. I've had 30 trucks never had a bumper look like this. Anyone find resolution to this? What a sad representation by gm.
