GM to Recall Rainier, Trailblazer, Envoy for Second Time

General Motors will have to recall 2006-2007 Rainiers, Envoys, and Trailblazers because the company cannot seem to keep the window switches from getting wet and shorting out. NHTSA says that a previous recall for the problem to apply a protective coating to the board did not work. Water can still penetrate the window seal and still short the window electronics making the window inoperable. To see if your vehicle is included click here.

They re-released the switch deal by replacing the entire swtich back in November of 2014...recall 14309A.

 

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in the following vehicles repaired under recall 12180: 2006 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, and Saab 9-7X vehicles. The service bulletin provided that if the driver’s door module was functioning properly, a protective coating was to be applied. If the module was not working properly, it should be replaced. Vehicles that were repaired by having a protective coating applied to the driver’s door module may continue to have a safety related defect If fluid, such as melted snow containing road salt, enters the driver’s door module, it may cause corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or may stop working. A short may cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke, or a fire. Additionally, the windows may raise or lower themselves, without user input. These conditions may occur even with the vehicle parked and the key removed. Customers should park the vehicle outdoors until it has been remedied. Correction

Dealers are to install a new door module.

 

Are they re-recalling the re-recall? I haven't seen anything come across my messages at work...

Try the link that says "NHTSA." That is the most info we could find. From what we read, the vehicles were recalled previously and the fix was not effective, so they have re-recalled these models.

Ah didn't click that lol. Looks like they missed a few trucks for the fix from the last time.

This would kinda be the third go around for the switch deal. The first was to replace the switches that didn't work and apply a protective barrier on the switches that did work. Then they decided to replace all the switches that previously just had the barrier installed. Curious to see what's going on now.

Why not just go back to the 2005 design? I imagine there is a reason, probably because the 2005 design was the old fashioned you could roll your head up in the window by pushing down, the 2006 design you have to pull up on the switch to get the window to go up.
