Bed cover with sport bar?

I test drove a 2016 Silverado with the new Off Road Sport Package today, and I really like it. I asked at the dealership if there's a bed cover that is compatible with the sport bar, bu nobody had an answer - anyone know any different? It will help me decide whether or not to get the dealer-installed sport bar or not, since the bed cover is more important for me than the sport bar and associated lights.

Sport bar? Is that like the 1980's roll bar with the lights up top? If so a bed cover will have to be custom and could possibly leak Where they mount. I didn't know they even offered anything like it.

 

"Edit" I just goggled it looks like where they mount would have to be notched out for sure.

I believe the roll-n-lock series bed covers have a sport bar mounting option.

Bought the sports bar from the dealership.....knocked off 10% for $900.....has a prewired CMHSL which is powered from the fuse box under the hood. Also available over the internet, but not worth it since the shipping charges will exceed any savings.......weighs about 30 lbs but extremely bulky coming on a box that takes up the whole bed.....let the dealer absorb the shipping!

 

Front part mounts on top of the rail in a stake hole........back protrudes 3/8" on the sides of the top rail where most roll up tonneau covers mount but a total 3/4"variance in width shouldn't interfere with the rollers......leakage over normal leakage for a roll up shouldn't be too much of a problem using a little silicone to take up any slight gap

I SO want one for my truck. Bringing back the "Fall Guy" look to the trucks just is nostalgic! Would love to see pics of one if anyone has one mounted, up close to see what it covers/how it looks mounted.

Looks something like the "sail" on my old Avalanche or the "wings" on my '69 Chevelle, but a lot meaner. Like the photos show.....mean

Just installed a Lund Genesis rollup cover.....the sports bar does not interfere with the mount........only change wasa installation of and extra 3/8" foam insulation to take up the difference where the bracket overlaps the side rail cap.

There were no instructions with the sports bar. There is a sheet of paper advising to go to the dealer to have the instructions printed which I did and for the $900 (10% discount) they were happy to do so. Unfortunately I discarded after the install, but didn't follow them exactly anyway.

 

Mechanically a simple install......cutout the stake holes in the front bed rail cap and remove side plug below and fastener attaches from side and top, rear fastens under the rail and insert fastener. The trickiest part is loosening the gas filler and snaking the power harness for the CMHSL in the bar (the one on the back of the cab is blocked by the bar, but the bed lights which point downward are not) through the exposed hole to feed to the frame below.

 

I ignored the hookup instructions for powering the new LED CMHSL which involved pulling the fuse block off the bulkhead, removing the positive feed wire and substituting the new one into the harness to disable the original stop light and power the one in the bar. Much easier to buy an inexpensive a piggyback fuse tap which has space for the old fuse and a new fuse powering a positive lead.....left out the original fuse socket in the tap using only the new one which has the same effect of disabling the old CMHSL and powering the new one or could put in both fuses and both will work.

Do you know if you can remove the sport bar? If so, will there be holes left in the bed rails or does it just mount to the side and underneath the bed rails?

Easily removed without any remaining trace other than the removal of the plastic knockouts from the rail cap to expose the front stake holes for the install.....in fact removed the sports bar to snake the light bar wires and reinstalled.

Probably cheaper to buy at dealer......most are willing to give a customer a 10% discount...if not grab a hold of the manager where you bought the truck and explain that after all the money you spent on the truck, you expect a discount...still works out cheaper at the dealer than on line where it is $150 off MSRP and another $130+ to ship.....definitely not a candidate for cheap UPS/Fedex to your home. It is alloy, only about 30 lbs. but bulky and its Chevy shipping carton takes up almost the whole bed!

 

Mounted forward facing spots and rear facing floods using a 2 channel remote control 12v relay, less than $20 on Ebay, I use the keyfob to switch either one or both sets on or off, from in or outside the truck!
