No resistors, it comes with a harness which is actually just a polarity switcher, a load capacitor, and a small 1" x 2" Ballast. You don't need the capacitor. The light plugs into the ballast, the ballast plugs into the polarity switch her, and that plugs into the stock harness. If it doesn't work the first time, switch around the polarity harness. I thought my light was defective until I figured that out. Everything fits behind the dust cap and you can't see it from the outside. I would recommend making sure you push all of it adequately in, it makes putting the cap back on easier.

Where you able to put the dust cap on without modifying it?

Are the led chips supposed to be oriented up and down or side to side on the opt7's?

Side to side always. Or east/west. If you put them in the other way, you're gonna have a terrible beam pattern.

I have not upgraded the HIDs in my '18 Silverado, and I probably won't. But, I did upgrade the halogens in my '17 Malibu with SNGL LED bulbs and they were a tight fit as well. So, I can sympathize with you folks struggling to cram all this stuff in there. It's typically best to stuff your ballast in first since it's the largest item.

As for someone who asked somewhere in this thread, running LEDs with the dust caps on should actually run cooler than stock halogens or HID's.

How would running dust caps over the leds not create a heat issue? I run 55W HIDS but still get this urge to run LEDS because I like the color more.. Heard they arent much brighter then stock though

They typically put off less heat than other types of bulbs. Usually have a heatsink and fan to pull heat out. Granted throwing it into a dust cover isn’t optimal, but it just continually displaces in the light assembly. HIDs and halogens run hot. You can usually feel warmth from your lights if you hold your hand in front of the beam. I’ve never noticed with the LEDs in my Malibu.

I could be wrong though. Hell, I don’t have a temperature gun to test this out. I just know I’ve been running LEDs in my Malibu for almost a year with no ill effects.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the point of a "Dust Cover" to keep dust out?

If LED's run cooler than factory Halogens then why drill vent holes in the dust cover?

Anyone running LED's in the Silverado or Sierra without holes drilled and having 0 problems?

The dust cover isnt just to keep dust out but more importantly moisture, as to not have foggy lenses. I've been running the opt7 led's cir a while..... bout 6 months and not even a hiccup. As stated above the led runs cooler than any HID or halogen bulb. Heat is not a problem.

Shapeways makes a extended dust cover for you. I purchased a set and had them to my door in 2 weeks. Cost a bit though!

I have been running LEDs in mine for 2 years with the dust caps on, no holes drilled. It is definitely a tight fit, but imo worth the hassle to reduce the risk of moisture in the housings. Also as someone mentioned the led bulbs do run cooler than stock halogen and especially hid.

I've been using these OPT7 H11 LED Headlight Bulbs

I'm still using the factory weather covers, have not had any heat issues or any other issues for that matter.  They are a snug fit, but once you get them sealed up, they are good to go.  No holes drilled, no aftermarket weather caps needed.

It’s an 11 but I’ve been running the newer Opt 7 Fluxbeam X’s since the end of winter with no dust caps and they work fine.

How are they now that you've had them for some time? Looking to do to my 2015 also.

Thanks

Did anyone modify the dust caps/covers? The instructions say to drill them out if they are sealed caps...
