General Motors continues to take market share in the retail sector. March was a continuation of most of the same trends we have seen so far. Crossovers and trucks up (or at full capacity) and most of GM's cars down - way down. The Malibu is the happy exception. We don't know how many were sold to fleets, but does that even matter? A sale is a sale. The Malibu is now selling at a 22K per month rate. It is up 37% for the year.

The Silverado, Sierra, Colorado, and Canyon are also selling well. GM continues to find ways to build and sell more full-size trucks and it has now reached its new maximum for the mid-size trucks. The low point of the sales figures are GM's premium and luxury cars. All of Buicks cars and all of Cadillac's cars are trending down. One car bucked the trend. The new Buick Cascada hit the lots this month and the convertible managed to sell about 814. That might not sound like much, but consider that the new Miata sold 1001 units in March and its is not a bad start.

Odd thing to be proud of in their press release...http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2016/apr/0401-gmsales.html

The Malibu had its best first quarter since 1980, and approximately 85 percent of sales in March were the all-new model, which is the fastest-selling car in its segment with a “days-to-turn” of 24 days.

The 85% new model stat is very good to hear though. Trucks are kicking some a$$ as usual. Cruze numbers are terrible, down 58% Y.O.Y. That new one needs to get to dealers faster than they are shipping them. Cadillac would be nothing with out Escalade and SRX.

The current Cruze is hideous, no idea why they even bothered changing the front clip. It looked much better before the change. The new Cruze they're bringing out just looks like a Toyota in my opinion.

Cadillac's reliability ratings have taken a nose dive over the past several years. Also the sales for the redesigned Escalade have really taken a toll as well. I believe the reason for that is not only the crappy reliability ratings Caddi is getting, but also the very questionable and in my opinion, ugly styling GM has taken on for the cars and SUVs/Crossovers is catching up to them. Already having been cited, the Cruze. I'll also toss on the Impala (2014+ Model) Great looking front end, ugly ass back end. Awesome interior, just like with the Caddi's and Buicks.. but the overall look of the vehicle is spoiled by the ugly back end. Again my opinion- What GM did with the Escalade with it's ugly ass back end and those stupid very tall narrow taillights.. well It would sure turn me away.

Looks are everything to people who want to buy something with class.

Buick? Awesome vehicles. But the brand name is doing them in. They can't generate any interest with the younger crowd and the older folks now a days are taking into consideration how expensive vehicles are and deciding they don't need something for $40,000+ that will hardly get driven. We've had several Buick/GMC shops close business or simply focus on GMC/Cadillac and done away with the Buick.

In my opinion GM's cars have gotten worse looking, and Ford's have gotten better looking.
