Good morning!

New to the forum as of today and also to GMC as of yesterday.  Bought my first GMC Sierra 1500 Max Tow 6.2L V8 yesterday and traded in my 2014 Dodge Dually 3500.

Can someone tell me where the GCVWR is stamped on the vehicle?  Heck, I can barely find mention of it anywhere online.  GMC Towing docs mention not to exceed it but their charts don't list it.  Dodge's towing charts by model and engine/tranny listed the GVAWR, vehicle weight, max towing weight, GVWR, GCVWR....etc.  The GMC chart only lists the max towing weight.

When researching the vehicles I found an article that did a comparison between 4 or 5 half ton trucks and it listed GCVWR data and had 17,700 for the Sierra 1500 Max Tow with 6.2 V8 in a very slightly different configuration than mine.  But no idea where they got that number from.  If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.  Salesman was no help. :(

Thanks!

^^^ This.    I also recommend that you read your manual over the next few days.  It is an easy read and will reveal tips that you will never discover on your own.

Thanks but it should be a specific published number by the manufacturer, not something that needs to be computed.

I know some places like BC will make you disconnect and leave your trailer if you are over GCVWR and come back with a vehicle that can legally manage the load.

  The information is indeed online:

Yes it is a specific published number in the owner's manual.  If you don't have a manual, let me know what cab, box and drive (2wd or 4wd) you have and I will give you the GCWR of your vehicle.

Yeah, the GCWR is not a number the manufacture places anywhere on the vehicle.  I've always wondered with these stories of the onerous weight police in Canada...do they rummage through your glove compartment to find your owner's manual to look up the number before hauling you off to the crowbar motel?  Do they go surfing online to the manufacturer's website to look it up?  Do they have some sort of universal database containing the configuration of every truck ever made into which they enter your VIN?  Highly trained detectives, they must be.

its in the owners manual, we have a 6.2 and we looked it up long while back. Its not stamped on the vehicle. Only thing labeled on your door jamb is your payload yellow sticker and thats important to. Just grab the manual take a seat and thumb thru it it there.

Yup....thanks!!!  Found it in the manual....and a bunch of other stuff while looking.  :)

Anyway....Max Trailer is 11,700 lbs and GCWR is 17,700 lbs.  Not bad for a 1/2 ton.  Pretty sure the suspension would need some help there but the max tow pkg supposedly already addresses that to some degree.  This is pretty sweet truck....Just a step below the Denali but not by much.  I think I am going to enjoy this....quite a bit different after owning Dodge Rams for the past 15 years.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome!

Lots of good info on this site.

When searching, click the small arrow and select all content. Then search.

If if you don’t like the floaty ride or want a stiffer ride, install some bilstein 4600 (standard strut) or 5100 (height adjustable).

I did this on my 18 max tow and love the controlled ride.
