A lot of the leaking posts mention urethane sealant on the window frame. Examination of the excess squeezed out on mine which remains leak free for over a year appears to be flexible black silicone rubber.

That sealant is applied at the factory and not part of the “fix” that the dealers are performing for the leak.

No sir, it has a plastic frame that is bonded to the glass, it's very thin and cracked in two places (that's the root of the problem).  It's garbage or I would have fixed and re-used.

Well got my truck back. I’m semi-confident in the seal since they specifically mentioned it was coming from the spoiler and they said the seal didn’t cure last time so they used a better sealant than the tsb recommends. 
 

But my problem doesn’t end there. Now they have to replace the headliner since it is dropping in one corner and resting on the slider trim. They also cracked the cardboard of the head liner. 
 

then I come home and find a scratch/slit in my leather seat. Someone must have had something in their back pocket when they moved my truck around. 
 

caller GM today to start a case.

I was a “success” story with my rear window leak issues which I posted in here last April/May. I went in and had the TSB done and they clean my headliner and removed the stains. I picked it up and brought it home. I water tested it immediately and it leaked still. I brought it back and demanded a new rear window. I had already opened a report with GM and was documenting everything. Well the window was replaced by the dealer. When I picked it up I inspected it, no headliner stains, and water tested it when I got home. No leaks!! 
 

Fast forward to May 2020 my wife was like hey I saw stains on your headliner I thought they got them out? I was like oh no not again!!! What do you know it’s raining here heavy today and there’s two different leaks on my rear window. At what point can GM just take this truck back? I’m fed up. It’s a lease FYI..

Welp not home 45 minutes and it starts raining. Low and behold the leak they fixed is still there. Now it’s in 2 places. And now I have a water spot on the headliner which I never had before. I will be contacting a lemon law attorney tomorrow. 
 

if I go to trade this truck in on something else I would take such a hit. This is ridiculous.

GM didn’t tell you to kick rocks? They told me “dealers are independently owned but we do hold them to a certain standard so we’ll document this” and that was that.

Since you’ve seen both slider and solid window off the truck, was there a huge difference in the frame and seal?

The solid window is just plain glass squished onto the body with a thick bead of urethane, like a windshield.   The slider has a thin plastic frame permanently adhered to the glass (see photos).

Well it looks like I have a February 2019 build that has a leaking rear window. I have not read through all 140 pages of this thread. Is there any key points to pay attention to with my dealer?

I searched but couldn't find any, but just in case I missed it, is anyone having leaking issues with the solid glass rear windows, or is this isolated to slider rear windows only?

The issue is with the sliding windows only. Anyone with a solid window that’s leaking, I believe is actually the spoiler. There’s no place for the solid one to leak, unless it’s installed incorrectly.

Good to know, thanks. Hopefully the new spoiler bolts are being used now that manufacturing has resumed.

If you are referring to the 2019 models before the slider window frame design was changed then yes it has to do with the window.  But "ALL" Silverados and Sierras of the new body style suffer from the spoiler leakage issue.  That is where my leak is coming from since I have the new style slider window without any cracks in the frame.

So it seems now that the real source of the leak are these spoiler bolts that are not properly sealed with the sealant? So water passes through them and soakes the headliners?

    • Hey guys, sorry for the confusison about this. This wasn't my experainnce, it was copied and pasted fom the net. 
    • The problem with failure rates or increase failures are there’s people who don’t have a problem. What are you doing wrong they say. We had 4 5.7 GM diesel’s in the family when they came out. One was flawless. My uncle who happened to be the most abusive. Early rotary engines were known to use oil. I abused my first car so bad in six months I replaced the clutch, transmission and rear end. It didn’t use oil. My brother in law has a 2013 Tahoe and an older Yukon. The Yukon has 280K miles. The Tahoe around 175K. He runs them to about 300K. If his lifters fail before that time he would consider it a failure. My Hondas, I know people hate it when I mention them. Identical engines. One with cylinder deactivation one doesn’t have it. One shudders when the eco light goes on or off. Cylinder deactivation. But wait! According to the web. It can happen with lock up too. So now people in the know are changing the oil and transmission fluid more often. Then you read it could be a programing issue. So what do you do? There’s lots of money involved. I see three ways to deal with it. One only works if you don’t drive lots of miles. Lease, never get out of warranty. Or only buy older vehicles with a good track record. They all have bad runs. Usually when there’s a change. Even Toyota and Honda. 
    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.
