This has been an ongoing situation since my model year was released 8 years ago now. Gm has 0 plans to ever fix this issue, or let me rephrase that, it will be fixed when gm no longer offers the 6.2 / 5.3 v-8 engines in it's truck line!

What I said not long a go, my theory, make problematic v8 engine so people will stop buying it , this is the only way we will stop, don’t believe in my theory, look who is CEO of GM ….. that will explain everything. I might be wrong…

sorry about what happened the more and more im reading about this make me want to cancel my at4, what kind of oil you use in your truck ?,thanks,

Because you read about a handful of failures on the new gen trucks and the comment you quoted was on a previous gen with a different system? The failure rate is in the lower single digit if not decimal of a percent, think how many of these engines are out there and how rare you read about these failures.  I wouldn't go that far cancelling it, you have started so many threads on it that all those will have been in vain...

LONG STORY SHORT, my family has had GMC since I can remember and they have lost a life long customer. I love the truck, but the effor GM is putting into solving the problem is none if any at all. They just warrenty it for 5 years of 60000k miles and act like they are doing us a service.

So I am guessing decades of reliable service and one issue and you jump ship? That is the problem with people these days. I will just say the grass isn't always greener, so good luck with that...

PS, not sure which lube tech told you they fail every 20k but that is not at all the case; that is how lies get started and spread.

There’re may not be a lot. But there’s more than a little. All you have do is type in GM engine failure. It’s not just this site. I’ll never buy a post 06 GM truck. I’ve owned more than a little.

Does anybody know if GM has a new part number for the lifters that keep failing?  Or are they just replacing the lifters with more of the same type?  If they are the same part number as the failed ones, then GM has no clue what is going on.  That's what I suspect, they have no clue and are grasping at solutions.  Maybe the 6.2L being on constraint is them trying to actually FIX the problem instead of guessing at solutions.

Same lifters.  5.3, 6.2, doesn't matter.  The current p/n (and priors) covers 2006-current, so same lifters pretty much since the start of AFM/DFM.

Just because I said we have had GMC vehicles and have been fans doesn't mean I ever said we had decades of reliable service or it was the only brand of vehicle we have ever owned. This is one of many issues me, my brother, and my dad have had or are currently dealing with, it was our loyalty that kept me around longer than I should have. Mine and my dads truck is currently in the shop with no estimate on when we will get it back.

I also never said a lube tech, manager, stranger, god, or mentioned any positions of people who past that info to me. The information has been verified many times to me through many different sources.

All I did was tell my story in a very short version of it, whether you believe it or not is your choice and if you have something constructive to add instead of trying to discredit my story for no reason at all that would be appreciated.

My father, brothers in our family business were anti GM after the 5.7, 62, and the 6.5 diesel. We had problems with the transmission too. My brother had the 5.7 gas in a 94 GM 4x4 that was gutless. My 91 5.9 Ram ran circles around it. They never went back. I did. I had a 2001, 04 GMC, 06 Avalanche  and an 06 trailblazer ss. My wife drove Chevys 94 z28 and impala ss. When GM dropped the full size rear drive car we bailed. I tried the 2014 GMC. Cylinder deactivation sent me packing. My 01 and 04 GMC were flawless. Which is why I drive an 02 Avalanche. GM seems to want to screw with a good thing. My 04 GMC road like a dream and was as quiet as a Lexus. They just couldn’t leave that bulletproof engine alone.

Im back on this forum after a long hiatus. Thinking about finally replacing my 2014 Sierra 5.3 and googled "2022 sierra problems". This thread came up.

I bought a new 2013 Sierra with a 6.2, at 30k miles the engine piled up. Lifters. Traded it on my current 2014. at 80k miles, engine piled up, lifters, cam, etc etc etc.

It has since been good aside from the torque converter piling up twice, first time at 161,000 km, 1000 km out of warranty, happened on my drive home from work which was 1200 km.  Second time, 100k km later,  it did it again but needed a transmission rebuild/upgrade(i upgraded the trash factory torque converter). It now has 225k miles.

My last 6 trucks were GM and I'm a bit dismayed they still have the same lifter problems.

I truly believe GM expected a high failure rate with AFM/DFM systems but they are committed to it and are willing to live with the consequences.  As a service tech I know put it, its not if a lifer will fail, its when you have to worry about.

I look at what the "chip shortage" excuse on the 5.3s as less of a chip shortage and more of a warranty costs savings.  Only 6.2s and 5.3 with NHT max trailer have DFM turned on, an all the high volume 5.3s it seems to still be affected by the "shortage".

I just had this occur Monday morning.  Silverado that just broke 20k miles.  Tech found a broken lifter and two bent pushrods.  They replaced the entire bank of lifters, guides, gaskets, etc..  Not my normal dealer as I was on my way home from out of state, and while I caught them off guard on a Monday morning and they had no open service slots available, they got it right into the shop and had the work completed by cob on Tuesday.  If they had taken longer, it would have saved me a day or two on the car rental.  Otherwise, very happy with the service.

I will add, that ever since I picked the truck up new, it has had what I would call a lifter tic, usually at idle.  I assumed at first it was because the truck didn't have premium, but it has always been present, regardless of the fuel used.  That "tic" is no longer present.  At least not that I've noticed yet.

As stated earlier in the post, GM has been using the same lifter/part number and it still fails why hasn't the design/material changed since 06'?

From the info that was put out on these lifters its not the design of the lifters it was how the lifters were made and not properly heat treated from the manufacture the lifters came from.

On a side note a friend of my brother-in-law was saying as we were talking the friend of his works for Hyundai service dept. he said his shop replaces 1 motor a day on those vehicles as they have the lifetime warranty on the motors he said he has seen them with as little as 5,000 miles to 130,000 miles I said man they really junk and he said they were he has 28 motors waiting on the truck to come pick them up. He laughed and said its pretty sad we have to keep at least 20 motors in stock.

I’ve owned 4 Hyundai’s. Two are still in service an 05 and 2011. I did hear there was a bad run with some 4cylinder. The reason I’ll stay with the brand is when they have a bad run they don’t drop the warranty period. They suck it up. Unlike GM.

Has anyone had a second failure of the replaced parts?

Would be something to replace lifters every 6k miles, for a ridiculous example.

Just had my whole engine changed at 5700 for a catastrophic failure.  Now my new engine is starting to sound like that.  Just had it at the dealer and of course they didn't hear a thing.  Not happy at all with the quality of their engines

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
