I picked up my 2014 Sierra All Terrain last night and so far everything has been great. I test drove it the day before to give the dealership the ok to spray the bed liner and during the test drive I noticed a vibration mostly through the steering wheel, like some have described. I told the dealer and they had the service department look at it before I picked it up last night. They force road balanced the tires and the vibration is gone, drives beautifully. My vibration came on around 75 and persisted through 80+. Was very slight under 75. Only have 120 miles on it so if anything changes I'll let you guys know.

So today I just pulled my 600# snowmobile on a 2 place aluminum snowmobile trailer and had the worst vibrations I've experience so far. This has me more convinced my vibration issue is related to drive shaft angle. The weight on the back of the truck is slightly lifting the front and in any other truck this isn't an issue but since my truck has a vibration unloaded the extra drive shaft angle makes it worse. How does a guy get a proper drive shaft angle?

That is my exact problem too. Not sure if you saw my post towards the top of this thread but I actually rotated my tires on my trailer in a Walmart parking lot because the vibration was so bad with a similar trailer. I am confident that this is a prop shaft issue and GM knows it. It will just be a matter of time before a recall goes out. Edited by Szyikowski

So has anyone really determined whether its tires, axles, driveshatfs, or whole rear ends? I guess I'll start with tires. I have a very slight but noticalbe vibration at ALL speeds. I've called the dealer who said to bring it in but I haven"t had time yet.

I actually was trying to get video of how bad my had would shake on the wheel when pulling the trailer. I think if I added my buddy's snowmobile on the trailer it wouldn't be drivable. I think today I'm going to put my ATV in the box (650#) and take it for a drive just to rule out the trailer, although I've never had a problem with the trailer before. If it vibrates bad I will bring it to the dealer with it in the back on Tuesday when they fix my seat.

Just got done with taking for a ride with my ATV in the back. It drove the same as it does empty, so it the weight might not be far enough back to have the same effect as having all the weight on the receiver hitch.

Silver Spaceship, you ever have your tires road force balanced? If they are off extra load would definitely make it worse. I know people have been saying the pinion angle could be off but I don't see how that would cause a vibration unless the spring blocks in the rear suspension had different angles cut in them or if one didn't seat on the rear end properly. I have experienced vibrations above 50 in a different car when the u-joint wasn't bolted to the rear end properly, kid who bolted it up didn't notice that one side was sitting on the alignment tab.

As others have mentioned could be a out of balance drive shaft. Could also be a defective u-joint somewhere on the drive line. With all the tire related issues I've seen posted I would lean that way though, and as I mentioned in an earlier post my vibration which came on about 70, went away once the dealer road force balanced the tires. I also towed my 6k lb boat yesterday and no vibrations at all, pulled like a bull.

Well I went and got on the interstate this morning after reading this to check mine at the higher speeds and guess what?When it reached 82 mph the vibration started and was terrible!!Drives so smooth at speeds below 80 with zero vibration!

Well scheduled my 3 rd trip to dealer for THE SHAKE that everyone unfortunate buyer is experiencing. So far they have replaced all 4 tires and road force balanced them and vibration/shake is still there at speeds above 65.

The dealers can't fix an engineering problem. This must be addressed from GM's engineers. I'm going to lemon law it if they can't address this miserable issue.

It is the tires. I had vibs over 70 mph and was corrected by tire trueing and balance on the truck. If such is not available to your area, recommend you find a shop or discount tire that knows how to properly road force balance a tire. If it takes too much weight, have them rotate the tire 180 on the wheel. Or just stay below..80..if you are kidding about this

Mine drives so nice and smooth up to about 82-85 mph and it is like you flip a switch!!I went to the dealership today to see when they could look at it and if they have heard of this before.Guess what they said??We have not ever had that problem before,My appointment is for 10 am tomorrow we will see!

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
