Shimmy - My 14 Sierra had the 45-55 vibe. Tracked to a badly out of specs ring gear. I have a 15 rear end and no vibration.

 

Thank you for the info - So they replaced your entire rear end with a '15 rear end or did they go about it differently?

 

Did you happen to experience the seat and console shake?

The vibration was a distinct "tiny rumble strip" feeling as described early in this forum by me and others. Pretty much a complete rear end less brakes, tires, and wheels as I understood.

My truck also got a new rear axle assembly, which fixed the 50mph steering wheel vibration.

 

The seat and console shake can be due to a few different parts being out of spec, prop shaft, drive shaft, tires, to name a few.

 

An internal source within GM explained to me that they had multiple issues with multiple suppliers providing out of spec parts...all of which ended up on the 1500 pickup trucks.

 

That's why it has been so hard to diagnose. Tires might fix one truck, but the next might have 4 out of spec parts and still vibrate after a tire swap/balance.

 

The shame is that GM continues to build trucks with these faulty parts, KNOWING they have problems. To make matters worse, nearly every test drive consists of driving a few miles up and down the nearest road, never going above 45...and all of these vibe problems happen at highway speeds. I suppose if I was GM and in it for the cash, I would do the same thing...wait for customers to buy the truck, get it home, drive on the express way to work, feel the vibration...then live with it, or complain.

 

If you have any of these vibration problems, GET THE BBB INVOLVED! They are your only way out!

Very interesting. I think there have been reports of replacing crown and pinions (on this thread and the SUV thread) and it not helping, but you had the entire rear end housing replaced. That's a whole other situation! Seems to me there was an early report of doing the same on an SUV on a different website, and it solved the issues with the SUV's (booming/buffeting/vibration). So, this may be on to something.

What you have described (tiny rumble strip feel) is your front differential. Needs replacement or complete overhaul. You may find this thread /post linked below more useful and related. This is not the resolution to all, but for those SPECIFIC to "tiny rumble strip" feel issues, its worth reviewing. We have several members (including myself) who got their dealerships (NOT EASY) to replace the entire front differential assembly, which resolved the issue and for most part trucks rode smooth as glass again.

Gosh, it almost seems that I need both my rear and front swapped out since I have the 45-55 buzzing vibration and the 74-80 mph console seat shake. I wanna cry,

I'm reading through this thread because I have the same problem with my 2009!

It's unbelievable that this is still going on and I hate to tell you guys it only get worse as the truck get older. My 2009 with 71k shakes so bad sometimes on the highway I'm scared a wheel is going to fall off. I was seriously thinking about buying a new truck because of this but after reading this thread no F'in way!

My truck was pretty smooth when I first got it so I feel I could easily be tricked in a test drive and end up with another shaker!!

I my end up with a Ford even though I love the looks and power of the GM truck.

GM-GUY - The ring gear was checked and found to be grossly out of spec. Upon replacing the rear diff and axle the vibrations were gone... How does that square with your statement. Should I now, 9 months and 20,000 miles without any vibrations, return to the dealer and ask the service mgr to look for problems in the front end...? I can see that that might be "not easy" but you sound quite sure of your position.

Just to review, what was the solution to the 70-80mph console and passenger seat shake?

 

In searching for a replacement for my truck, I've driven 11 Seirra and Silverados now. 8 of them had this problem. I found none with the gas pedal vibe (although my 2014 has it) and none with the steering wheel vibe. Nearly all of them have the console/seat shake though.

 

The trucks that rode smooth, 2 were demo trucks with 2500 and 5000 miles on them (probably had issues and were fixed), and the other was a long box v8 crew, with 20" Continental tires.

Did you have your vibration from basically day one and as you put more miles on the truck did it seem to slowly get worse?

@PMmury, only if experiecing a rumble strip type hum/feel between 55-72mph. I see on prev post you had the less then 55mph issue which would not apply to the front and sounds like you got that taken care of via rear axle resolution. I must have misread and thought you were experiencing new issue. It is funny how some of the different distuiquished issues are determined by common speeds, which is helpful in narrowing at least where to start looking. The dealer can also hook up a vibration analyzer on the powertrain components to distinguish the faulty area. Im pretty mechanically inclined and had my issue narrowed down to the front diff, was just a matter of convincing dealer. Since the wheels still turn on the truck, its not considered broken/faulty to them.

Thanks for the link I will be checking that thread out . But I also have the rumble strip vibration with a slight harmonic like you were to have your windows down a certain way on some cars at speed and you get a very similiar sound . Although mine is between exactly 20 and 30 mph . Also for the record I have a 2wd so no front differential .

    • Ahh, sorry about that - I got some bad info. Newdude is correct. That's what I get for working 13 hours straight ... on my "vacation", lol.   Should've checked the files I had instead of the internet.   Anyway ... this is GREAT news, since this would've been an absolute friggin nightmare to get working.   I don't think the lack of VVT is causing this - you've got another issue. Wiring, I'm betting.   I'm telling you right now, your computer isn't bad. If it worked before the swap, it's working now. You need to do some more (better) diagnostics and figure out exactly what you're missing. Did you test every wire directly at the MAF? Have 5V reference? Ground? If you're reading ZERO g/s, your Hz isn't much use - it's going to be the wrong value anyway. The MAF is not working, and you need to find out WHY.   I got this off the net, so VERIFY first: Pin A: Black (BLK) wire, Circuit 552, serves as the Sensor Return (Ground).  Pin B: Tan (TAN) wire, Circuit 472, carries the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) signal.  Pin C: Yellow (YEL) wire, Circuit 492, is the primary MAF Sensor Signal output to the PCM. Pin D: Pink (PNK) wire, Circuit 339 or 539, provides Ignition 1 Voltage (Power).  Pin E: Tan/Black wire, Circuit 552 or similar, often associated with the Intake Air Temperature ground or signal return.  Global-A list: https://postimg.cc/KKJnQC85    
    • Correct....the end user can't reach to Realtruck directly like they can if they purchase a Bak, Undercover, etc...  It has to go through a dealer.
    • It is 4wd. shop told me it is the slip yoke. But not sure.
    • No, I did not tune out vvt. From what I read it should still be able to run without it, it'll just lose some torque/power.    I can see how that would make it not run correctly, but why would that cause the faulty MAF readings?   EDIT: I just ran a quick test and checked, and as I expected, the computer sees that the VVT cam phaser solenoid is not present, and throws a code for it, and does not try to change the cam angle at all. Commanded position just remains at zero, 100% of the time. This makes me think that the VVT is most likely not the cause of the problem though if anyone has a different/better explanation, I'm all ears.   UPDATE: I was able to find that my scan tool does indeed support reading the frequency (hz) off of the MAF (I thought it wasn't supported but turns out I just didn't know where to look for it). I noticed that regardless of engine state it always however this Is not what I observed with my multimeter. Like I said before, the MAF seems to put out a normal signal during cranking and then the signal drops to a very erratic reading once the engine is running. It seems from what my scan tool is telling me that the ECM is not recognizing this at all, and just reads 0 Hz 100% of the time. This pushes me towards the the PCM itself is faulty. I I have the PCM out of the 2007 donor vehicle, which I may try to connect and program (it's only ~50 bucks to get the software for a one-time programming)
    • Did you tune out the VVT?  07-09 they did not have VVT.  2010-2013 they did.      If you haven't tuned it, its trying to adjust cam timing.
