I wouldn't doubt it if my truck "passed" their Pico test as well. I was told the same thing, "it's the truck trying to be efficient" but it does it in V8 mode too under power. Pretty sure its not trying to sip gas going up a hill doing 60 mph.

If anyone is curious to what it feels like, put your cell phone on vibrate and put it right next to your feet on the floor, then imagine driving it like that.

I wrote a nasty letter to the service manager a few weeks ago and finally got a response last Friday... My other issue is I don't have time to **** around bringing a truck in to the dealer a couple times a week. They want an appointment to see what's wrong with it first, then after that you make another to "fix it."... pain in the ass. They also keep telling me "their out of loaners" because they know they're not going to do dick to my truck.

I agree it's a pain to deal with scheduling fix attempts. I have 5 different Chevy dealers within 15 minutes of my house or work but got it from one 40 minutes away because I really do like the dealership and service department there, they've been great. The drive there not so great. I just feel like their hands are tied by GM on what they can do to try and get these issues resolved. They've flat out told me multiple times we can't do this or we can't do that because GM won't let us. What a crock.

I have received absolutely zero help from either BBB or GM to get my issues resolved. I've wasted more time, efforts, and money. All I can do is run GM's name in the dirt, never buy another GM product, and hope all my friends and family follow suit. It is so freaking frustrating to be treated this way, spend 45k on a piece of crap truck and have it stuck up your backside. I wish everyone good luck with their problems and don't expect BBB to do anything for you, especially Daniel at EXT. 507. He wouldn't even return my calls, a real go getter and really fighting for the consumer. All I can say is I hope I can trade this piece of crap in soon and be ride of all of the BS!!

You will get hosed trading in a 1 year old truck, maybe it's time to call a lawyer as that usually forces GM to the table. Of course you need to document everything and allow them a certain number of attempts to fix the issue. As long as you are running through the process I don't see why you are not a candidate for a buy back.

Well got my truck back on Tuesday and pinion and ring gear were replaced along with the the tires being road forced balanced. The vibration at 40 to 55 is gone and now vibrates at 65 and up. Taking it back on Monday to redo the tires, hopefully this will fix it.

GM dealer says its the tires (GoodYear Wrangler) that are the cause of the highway vibrations and its normal. Really don't know what to say to that except BS. There is something seriously weird with the way it vibrates. Not just a tire vibration almost like the shocks aren't dampening the vibrations. Going to invest $400 in the Bilstein 5100 has the stock Rancho's on it now.

Its NOT the tires & its not normal.....bring it back or to a better dealer that will try to correct it

So it's the tires????OK then why do they still keep putting these tires on their trucks then......cheaper to blow off a few customers than to upgrade the tires?

Hi guys,

I posted here awhile back about a vibration issue with my Silverado at 45-55mph. back in January the dealer agreed that 3 of my 4 good years were out of round. I put LT Michilen ltx at's on the truck and the vibration was defiantly improved. that was back when the truck had 18000 miles on it. Now at 26000 im noticing the vibration is getting worse (not worse in intensity, but now noticeable from 40 - 60 mph). Its such a shame I love the truck and wouldn't want a different brand half ton but this is driving me nuts.

Mike....

Mine shakes enough to vibrate drinks that you put in the cupholders from about 68mph +. Our 2014 Camry SE V6 rides down the highway as smooth as glass up over 115mph, and it could keep going without vibration. No, these trucks aren't cars, but for $50k they should not be shaking up and down the highway like piles of shit.

Mike

I haven't read all of your threads but if you haven't done so, my suggestion would be to taking it to another dealer or to a good tire specialist. I also have 22's that look exactly like yours. My particular problem was solved (90%) with a good tire balance and rotation. Some of the dealers fail to calibrate their tire balancing equipment which may account for them believing the tires are balanced and you knowing they are not. You might be able to find out when their equipment was last calibrated (good luck..). This is not a "fix all" solution but one you may want to pursue. I do not believe rims size is the problem in your case but poor diagnoses and guessing on their part. They should know better. See if you can get a new set of tires also. Sorry to hear you have to consider getting a new truck.

GM wouldn't allow me to go to another dealer so I had to do the round trip, 240 miles back to the dealer that claims it has no vibration. They still have it, waiting to hear from GM what they can do, but in the same breath they say it has no vibration. My last GM product.

No vibs in mine (yet). With so many replies and views you would think someone would come up with a fix! There are smart people at GM that is why they don't have a fix.It would cost GM a boatload of $$$$.Cut their own throats. Now .. Maybe...If .... We if we had a reward of some sort it would up the Annie. Someone knows, they are not telling. ..Maybe start with a vib truck and start stripping her down and adding custom replacement parts until the vibs stopped!...Got any ideas????... Read one post where the truck didn't vib after being jacked up and wheels R +R. Let's figure this out. Think! Think! I have been. Someone be a Hero for this topic!

I have probably swapped more parts and pulled more things off this truck than anyone else on this forum and still haven't been able to eliminate the vibration. Only things I haven't swapped are front and rear hubs brake rotors and ring and pinion. If someone would release an aftermarket ring and pinion for these trucks I would try it but if I'm going to spend the $ I want 3.73's and don't want to use parts for the 14 bolt 9.5 that requires a bunch of additional parts. The problem is that it's starting to get expensive and the parts I haven't replaced are very expensive only available from GM and probably built to the same shitty tolerance as the parts that are already in the truck. Does anyone know the radial run out spec for the hubs on these trucks? 2 of mine; 1 front, 1 rear are out .010" rule of thumb I thought was typically less than .030" but these trucks may be more sensitive and require tighter tolerances..

GM needs to let a dealer take a vibrator and an equivalent build non vibrator and swap parts one by one until the vibration is eliminated.

I've also wondered if there was a bad a batch of body mounts produced and replacing them would solve the problem, damn things are expensive though probably 750 to 1000 to redo a crew cab. I have yet to see a dealer try this as a fix.

I've been somewhat reading responses here and there on the forum (thank god I don't have this issue - sorry for those that do).

Here are a few things I'd try which I didn't see anyone try (sorry if I missed it 400+ pages is a lot to read):

1.) Lower tire pressure, if there is a vibration in the axle this should theoretically send it to the tires more instead of the cab/frame.

2.) Put a bunch of weight in the back of the bed (500+ pounds). Theoretically the weight "should" fight the vibration.

3.) I have a trailer with a slightly bent axle (from dropping too much weight into it at once) and it had this vibration around the same speed most are complaining about here 65-75MPH. The vibration went down a lot when I fixed up the play in the mounts for the leaf springs.

4.) Place a bottle of water in the bed of the truck and see if it vibrations similar, if not the vibrations are probably coming from the front of the truck instead and or body mounts are aweful.

5.) Not sure if the transfer case and front end components can handle this (someone with more experience would have to chime in here) but pulling the rear driveshaft, and put in 4 wheel drive (essentially making it front wheel drive) would instantly rule out the drive shaft. Again this could be a bad idea depending on strength of the front end / transfer case.

6.) Highly unlikely but sometimes the design/wear of the road and the wheelbase/suspension can lead to very awful rides; I doubt the roads are the main cause behind this but its probably making it worse.

7.) I'd drop the diff cover and inspect the gears for abnormal wear, if something is out of balance that much you might be able to spot with wearing of the gears.

    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them.
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.
    • Good evening. I was lucky enough to get passed down to me a 2007 GMC LBZ that was my great uncle's. While the underside and rockers are more or less gone I feel like with time I can restore it to working order since it only has 110,000 miles and he put nearly every option he could get without getting the new body style since he did not trust DEF. So far I have done everything I can think of but when I put the key into the ignition nothing happens. I put 2 brand new batteries in it. Cleaned the terminals. Check all the fuses and relays and they all pass with my multimeter. I know I'm missing something that I just cant think of. The only odd thing is the OBD2 port works which makes me think its not the mega fuse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
