So, after having enough of the vibration, I took my 2014 GMC to the dealership to have it checked out. I explained to them that the vibration is basically between 45 -55 mph and then again at 68-74 mph. It is most noticeable when I'm coasting in gear. They test drove it, and here's where it all began.....

 

Tech came to me and stated that he agreed and did notice the vibration, and that he was 100% sure that it was 'tire related'. Hmmm.......

 

So I asked him if he also shifted neutral, as I asked him to (during my personal testing, this reduced the vibration significantly), and he said yes. He also agreed that when he did it, he also observed a "lesser vibration". Now to the obvious.....

 

Next, I asked him what the logic was that tire vibration was reduced when shifting into neutral? They seem unrelated to me.....yes?

After 2-3 minutes of BS, he finally agreed to have a "2nd opinion". To my surprise (not), the 2nd tech agreed with the first one's assessment. Who would've thought.....

 

So, now I'm bent over the barrel. No lube, no reach around....nothing....

 

I'm purchasing the Michelin LTX A/T2's, even though I still have 15 miles left on the GoodYear garbage. Had I not wanted to change tires anyway, I would've put up a better fight.

 

So, more to come, but I'll be a monkey's uncle if the tire change solves my vibration issues. I just wanted to share, as I've been following this closely for the past 6 months or so.

 

 

 

i have the same problems , someone here recommended a new driveshaft with yokes and everything i think i may bite the bullet and buy one if it didn't help i will sell it .

I finally found a fix!

 

After buying 2 different 2014 GM trucks with this issue (see past posts) and battling GM over a year, I finally found a fix for the sub-par manufacturing of the new GM truck model. I bought a 2015 Ford F150 FX4 and I have not looked back since. I have always been a GM guy, but they will never get another dime from me or my family. I suggest you all do the same.

I just bought a 14 crewcab 5.3 and have a vibration between 70-80 but it will get rough then will get lighter and keep going back and fourth its not constent anyone experience it??? I have 80k miles

Possible something of interest with our trucks.

I recently noticed the bed of my truck is crooked. It's only off by about 2/8" but the odd thing is the guy at the dealership body shop did all these measurements on my loaner and it was off about the same in the opposite direction. Also my front wheels to the back wheels measurement was off as well (left side longer than the right) by around 2/8". The rear tires are off by about 1/2" from the bed (measurements taken from the wheels to the bed on both sides) which makes it seem the axle isn't straight either. Is that not odd for a brand new vehicle to be off like this? It's very apparent that there's no real care taken when putting these things together. Gotta get these manufacturing jobs back on US soil but that's another convo.

bed crooked by 1/4" from cab, or not square or on the frame?

 

wheel base might be from caster setting on front or rear end slightly out of alignment. I'm not sure if these locating pins/leaf springs have a little play in them for alignment or not. If so, that could be an easy fix.

 

Tires tops to bed wheel well lip is 1/2" off side to side? level ground? Drivers side lower? fuel weight?

this was brought up a couple hundred pages ago. it didn't seem to make any difference, maybe youll get lucky though

Hey Jesse have you got a new horse ? I've been out of the mix for a while since you were getting ready for a buy back on a trade in .Did you end up staying with GM ?

it hasnt finished yet. the guy was away last week, he did tell me he would be away the week before he left. so hopefully soon, this sh*t takes forever

Well, in response to the latest post.....

Got the new Michelin LTX AT/2's. Tire service center install, balanced and aligned. Guess what? Same vibration as before. 45 -55 is the worst, during deceleration. It seems more when temp temp is cold, or fully hot. In between isn't as bad, at least that's what it seems. So I'm going back to the dealership and shoving the tires up the A$$ (just as I told them). Can anyone guess what the next steps are? I'm going back to the dealership tomorrow and asking them "ok, what's the next step?".

Any guesses?

Any suggestions from the group on what do or say if they come back to me with that? I'm simply not letting them off the hook this easy. I paid good money for this, and GM is gong to pay one way or the other.

The 45-55, especially on deceleration sounds to me like the setup of the rear gears is incorrect.

Agreed sounds like like there's too much backlash. The carrier bearing preload may have been to loose letting the backlash open up when the load is removed.

the deal is they take mine and give me a new 2017. whether I keep it or not is another story, not sure what Ill do at the moment, I'm terrified to have the vibration come back, and I already know that it is very very slight on the 2017 denali's I tested. im trying to get them to put better tires on before I accept.. If its gone I'll consider keeping it, if its still there I'm going straight to Ford or Toyota... I think

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
