Get a Moog or Timken bearing, should be the same front hubs from 99 and up from the looks of them

The hubs are the same for a 2013. They are $185. BUT. The ABS sensor connector is different then the 2014. I had to use the sensor from the old hub. Just though I should say something.

I always preferred Timken when it comes to wheel bearings.

Timkin is the onlt way to go. I just went with the one from oreillies it has a 1 year warranty. And in a year I'll replacw both sides. And by then I'll need new struts. Von

Mine, a slight vibration at 72-78 ish, seems improved with a full tank and/or weight in the bed. Back in the spring, it seems as if it also preferred warmer temps. However, I have leveled with fox coil overs up front, so it remains to be seen what cooler temps bring. I've also noticed that a full throttle episode getting on the interstate seems to increase the 75 vibe a bit. I do agree that it seems pinion angle or rear ends are involved in at least some cases.

 

Prior to all that I had vibes in the 45 range as well. I haven't felt those in quite some time.

Mine is EXACTLY the same. I'm also thinking that this is related to the rear end. Low 50s this morning and it seems to be less noticeable in this weather. I'm also experiencing vibration between 35-45ish. I also notice that when coasting and tension is off the driveline and then adding even very minimal acceleration l, there is noticeable clunk from the rear of the truck. Something must be loose or the rear diff is having some issues. I have another appointment on Tuesday.

 

I really hope to get to the bottom of this. Always wanted a GM truck and I didn't want this as my first experience with GM

Side note, I did pull the trigger on a new set of tires from Discount Tire. Cooper Discoverer ATP 275/60R20. I had to take them back the very next day to have them rebalanced because they didn't even attempt to remove the GM weights on the first try. So the store manager cleared all of the weights, "ride" force balanced all 4 himself and chewed out his people for me. Good service, no question.

I'm new to the forum but not new to GM 4x4 1/2 tons. I've been driving them since the late 70s. My '16 Z71 is truck number 7, if I remember right. Before my current Silverado I had a '07 Sierra SLE ll. I recently sold it with 130K miles on the clock. Got rid of it due to bad rust issues. Regardless of the rust, my '07 GMC went down the road and highways far better than my new '16 Chevy. In fact I never had a vibe issue with any of my previous trucks. I had my '07 Sierra for 9 years and now wish I didn't sell it.

 

I also wish to hell I had done some research on the new-newer GMs before pulling the trigger on this '16. But after +,-40 years of having decent GM trucks I guess I didn't think it would be necessary....MY BAD.

All that said... with apparently so many trucks having the same or similar issues, I'd guess that by now, GM knows what the cause is, or causes are. And it may be they're just prolonging the expense of a recall. But seems a recall of sorts would be in the GM future and the cost to them wouldn't be cheap.

Yeah after seeing his post I started considering replacing the hubs again. I did something similar with the front drive shafts except i removed them completely to eliminate them as a possible source but stopped there. I couldn't convince myself to buy a 200 dollar front hub assembly but I'm reconsidering. Hard to buy a part from GM when you know the parts they make and install are of suspect quality control to begin with.

it will cost them millions in retesting because from what I've heard, we feel it because they changed the mounts on the vehicle to a harder material that transfers the vibes. but I think there are issues with certain parts as well

I'm going to buy 2 Timken hub assemblies. Might get them changed out when I have the shop swap out these Pro Comp SS struts/shocks for Bilstein 5100s. I'm burning money anyway just owning the truck, why not.

Im new to the forum so I hope that i am posting in the right place... i have a 2016 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 at about 6000 miles it has developed a vibration when it drops in to v4 mode. I was wondering if Chevrolet has been able to fix this problem.

I appreciate the feedback. After all my research it seems that this has been an issue for a few years now.i cannot seem to find any information on a fix. My truck just turned 6000 miles and everything has been fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

I would start with the simple things first, could be just a thrown wheel weight or one tire that is underinflated.

AFM .... What exactly is AFM? I've seen it mentioned a few times but don't know what it is, or means.

    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
