I have looked through these forums and can't seem to find the link for adding phone contacts to the radio favorites, does anybody know where thats at please? I can't remember how I did it.

Just google this and you will see a link to a video of how to do it.

Here is something I read at another forum, this sounds like the 70-85 mile an hour issue to me.

Add on the fact that the transfer case chain was redesigned as well could be the source of some if not most of our vibration and shaking.

It is not wheel balancing. We have had several of 2014 trucks with vibrations, both Chevy and GMC. One of our technicians found the teeth on the ring gear in the differential were different lengths. Supposedly fixed a few. Mine vibrates like crazy. I can feel it the instant I hit the gas and different speeds as high as 85 mph. I haven't had mine done yet as I don't want to throw parts at it.

 

There are a lot of trucks with this issue. Not sure if the ring gear is really the issue. If it is, they better do something about it. Either a service campaign, or recall. My double cab was less than 500 units in production at Fort Wayne and the assembly quality has been horse $hit. It should never have left the factory with the issues my truck has. Many of them are because of poor assembly. My truck makes me embarrassed for anyone who works there.

Mine is a 7.14 build date and mine comes and goes. I feel like mine it more road feed back then anything. One stretch of highway it is smooth and then another I have vibration.

I can not believe thst GM has not figure this out by now, knowing how this is effecting their product and sales.

This is so frustrating to know that others are still buying broken trucks.

This rack and pinion steering unit was not designed right in my opinion. There has been alot of issues with noise coming from this unit. Could the road energy be transfering and damaging this electronic shake control rack and pinion unit.

I am not really sure it's affecting their sales, even if someone buys one and trades it in GM gets their money, and the majority of people on this forum say they love their truck and would definitely buy it again. This is probably why GM is acting like this issue is just isolated incidents here and there, which makes it easier for them to treat this like its not a big deal.

I have an angle finder from the days when I built my rock crawler. It's now on my to do list to check the factory driveline angles next weekend. I will post up what I have and see what I think. I've worked on enough large custom trucks. my 4runner has a CV rear shaft, and Dana 44 front axle. Leafs all around. built in my driveway. 38" tires. 5spd manual. Winch, custom bumpers I built and all. Detroit lockers F&R I installed. I took that truck up to 100mph ONCE to see what it would do. Smooth as glass!!! So how can I build a truck in a driveway that's sitting on 38" tires, leafs at all corners that runs 100mph and smooth and GM can't build one at a factory to drive smooth??? HHMMMMM??

 

The new Tundra looks good now. If they offered a locker in the rear and got their MPG's up with the others they'll kill everyone. The tundra needs a 8spd trans and direct injection to help with MPG's. Maybe offer a 5.0L engine to help with MPG"s also. Let's face it, my 5.3L is great. It's a truck. not a race car. Operating costs go into your price that you pass along to the consumers. Trucks are tools. That's why I bought my truck. The GM trucks make the most business sense. Better warranty, MPG's which equals you can lower your cost of bids and get more jobs in construction.

Mine is a 14 sierra 4x4 Z71. Vibrates randomly from 74 to 80 or so mph. I took it in about 10k miles ago and they did a 'road force balance' and charged me for it. Did no good. I haven't driven it on the interstate enough since then to be irritated by it. I now have 19k on it and am travelling on the interstate again (GoNoles) and it sucks.

 

Judging by this thread, looks like I can forget getting it fixed.

near as I can tell nobody ever really gets it fixed they just try things like wheel balancing that reduce it enough so the average person doesn't notice its still there or they don't ride on smooth enough roads to feel it.

 

they don't balance the tires on these trucks so getting a good balance often takes 40% of the vibration away and the rest is from something else and that's what they have no idea how to fix.

 

if you push it you can get a buy back from GM but you have to meet the lemon law requirements and get a lawyer to go through the process which takes months then they buy it back with depreciation for the miles you put on it. but that's often going to be a much better deal then if you trade it in on something else

 

bought my truck Aug 28, 2014 and its been in the service dept for 3 unsuccessful repairs for the vibration issue and they refuse to look at it again after just rebalancing the tires all 3 times, will try a different dealer tomorrow and if they refuse its lawyer time.

I had this issue too when I first bought my truck. I picked up my silver ice metallic 14 LTZ Silverado in June. I immediately noticed an intense vibration above 75 mph. It was really bad and my first though was that it was something mechanical in the drive train.

 

Turns out the vibration was caused by the wheels not being balanced correctly. Apparently the truck left the assembly line without them ever balancing the wheels. As soon as they balanced my wheels correctly, the vibration went away. Smooth as a cadillac now.

its called a class action lawsuit, maybe its coming soon if they don't stop saying trucks are supposed to shake and vibrate just because their "so-called" proof that its normal is that all the other trucks on the lot are equally defective and vibrate as well

this caught my eye

 

"Adjusting the U-joint working angles on the current full-size trucks is normally accomplished by moving the center bearing up and/or shimming the axle pinion up about 2 degrees. It is generally not necessary to move the transmission up or down."

 

so it sounds like they commonly come with the wrong u-joint angles from the factory. I doubt if this could be all it is or they would have a service bulletin fix for something that simple but maybe it is in the tranny angle side that a shim wont fix as someone mentioned.

 

do all trucks have the transfer case thingy or is that just the 4 wd ones?

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper. 
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back. 
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
    • That's good to know, but I don't think I'll even be running them under 45 in the rear  unless it's on the sand or something but will only be for a short distance anyways!    I didn't read all the instructions in the booklet yet, but do you know let's say I set the rear psi on the placard to 45, will the warning light come on soon as it drops under 45 or is there a percentage it has to drop from the set value before the warning light is triggered?
