The two times we've noticed it being worse after getting it back from the dealership were AFTER rotating the tires. It's going in for its final repair attempt with an engineer on the 16th, if we get it back and it's "fixed", my husband is taking it to get the tires rotated to make sure it really is fixed! Haha!

 

 

 

 

 

I finally got a chance to test it out after the re-balance and rotation and I am Happy to report that it is much, much better... It was so bad that it may still have some vibe but it feels like nothing to me now... I am headed on a couple hundred mile trip in a week and should get a better idea of where I am at... I will keep an eye on it and keep you all posted...

Keep your service records and get rid of it if you can. Why should we even have to have almost 400 pages of dialogue to convince gm there's a problem. Eventually they'll be sued for this...everyone here has had the same recourse and no resolution. I will get my money back one way or another for having to get rid of my truck. I'm enjoying my toyota but I bought Silverado because that's what I wanted. Good luck.

Well, could be. If the whole issue is vibration causing a resonant response of the entire frame/body/interior system, then changing the stiffness of something in that system will affect the natural frequency and/or damping. In the case of rubber suspension and cab mounts, both stiffness and damping would be reduced when the rubber gets hot. This would have a big effect on the total system response. Same for tires - hot rubber is softer!

 

You know, I pointed out on the SUV forum that GM has advertised that they have gone to new style "shear type" body mounts. The rubber is secured laterally to reduce horizontal body movement, in an attempt to give these full size trucks a more firm, "sports car" -like ride. I still wonder how much of and effect it is having on all the vibration (and noise for the SUV's) issues we are seeing.

 

Anyone else seeing different characteristics in the hot weather?

We're in FL and it's getting to be in the 90s and the vibration is horrible, although it has been since the beginning!

Are you guys who have gone to the Michelin's for a smoother ride running the Tweel? Seems like the only tire that might actually help ?

Today I was told by a GM District Manager of aftersales that he has "fixed them all" and the vibrations are "within spec" and at least i dont have to use my 2 feet to get around.

 

But yet his only solution is more tires, we are up to 13 tires on this truck so far, I dont think that is the issue, and its obvious hes done trying.

It's really sad the way Chevrolet has handled this issue. One thing I have always praised Chevy on is their quality control; but lately I'd say they are worse than just about any other mfg when it comes to problems and resolutions.

 

How many future Chevrolet customers are they costing themselves with this debacle. After leaving the Ram family to try out a Chevy again, I can say I will never go back. Not only are they well behind the curve when it comes to hp, transmissions, and interior features; they are just pushing crap out of the factory with no regards to the consumer.

 

Mine will be going back in again. I've balanced the tires twice, swapped wheels off another Chevy in my inventory, and balanced the drive shaft. All to no avail. Mine is so bad it actually starts vibrating at around 30 which rules out tires. The other odd thing is it shakes during low speed braking. When pulling up to a stop sign it feels like I'm driving over a cattle guard. When pulling a trailer the vibes increase 10 fold.

 

My service manager thinks it might be a yoke issue as they had similar issues with Chevy trucks about 10 years ago. We are going to throw that at it and after that I will be on the phone with Chevy having a discussion about them "re-acquiring" this wonderful piece of machinery.

So far we haven't gotten a lawyer involved yet, I have his number very handy though! I'll update as soon as we get any info after dropping it off on Thursday. Make sure you send in the defect notice that's in the back of your lemon law book to notify them it will be their final repair attempt if you bring it in again. I also have a few videos from this last month documenting the vibrations if we go the lemon law route those will come in handy. Our service manager and advisor are also very much on our side which also helps a lot.

Alter Ego Trip... That sounds like my truck. I don't notice vibes when braking though. Slip yoke was going to be my next undertaking. Mine seems to have a lot of rotational slop in it. I don't know how much is allowed though. My dealer told me the vibes were normal, so now I'm doing this on my own. Let us know what you find out about your yoke.

I'll keep you updated. I will take it in next week and get that done. The driveshaft on mine was out a balance quite a bit but balancing had zero effect on the vibration. It's also strange that mine is much worse when it's cold, then when it's hot out. That's the toughest thing about chasing this gremlin; it doesn't follow any pattern of consistency.

 

My service writer thought I was blowing things out of proportion till I had him drive it. He was blown away how noticeable and obnoxious it is. The other thing I'm noticing is an audible resonance from the vibration. My tech thought it was coming from the rear cab vents, so he blocked them off, with no change.

 

I really wanted to like Chevrolet, after owning them for years prior to switching over to Ram. My last one was an 07 and it was a great truck. Zero issues or complaints. Seems like those days are gone. I mean come on Chevy; if you are going to build a truck that is miles behind your competitors; at least build one that's reliable.

I think the yukons and subrubans have the same drone noise, if I remember right it was caused by the roof liner.

Well it looks like I'm regretting buying my 2015 Silverado two weeks ago, I just joined this forum today and lucky me, I have all the same issues everyone else does.

 

My other two posts are in the radio reception area. I used to install home theater, and own some of the best speakers in the world, and they are trying to tell me that the radio in the truck has nothing wrong with it... yea right. :banghead:

 

The thing I have noticed with the shaking is that it is on the cylinder deactivation, and it is far more prominent at highway speed than local "around town" driving. has anyone else noticed this or do you all have it all the time? and does it get worse as time goes on? My truck came straight off the show room floor, so I didn't actually drive the one I bought, I have driven and been in so many others with none have been anywhere near as bad as mine has turned out to be.

 

I would have said excessive road force in the tires could have been an issue, but for this many people, thats not going to be it. looks like I may be getting rid of my brand new truck and going back to the blue oval or the shiny animal... very disappointed with this truck, atleast I got a crazy deal and will actually make money trading it in. :crackup:

I'm a huge HT nut. What speakers are you running?

My truck came straight off the show room floor, so I didn't actually drive the one I bought, I have driven and been in so many others with none have been anywhere near as bad as mine has turned out to be.

nice to hear from a fellow HT nut, I actually have 3 set-ups, Im only 24 so most of my stuff in newer, I just upgraded my two subs and I love them.

That's a completely different animal. We've had a couple trucks that have suffered extreme vibrations due to cylinder deactivation. Most of the issues you are reading here aren't from that, mine included.

 

 

Sorry about that, I was referred to this thread from a different one. My trucks vibration is mostly on the cylinder deactivation and very noticeable at highway speed. have you heard of any fixes for it in your time here? I otherwise love the truck, except for the radio which I'm going to try to get GM to put something else in if I can get the vibration fixed... which seems unlikely now.

as for making money trading the truck in, the dealer I bought it from made a mistake in the listing, its a $56,500 with all the options and accessories that they put on it, but they had it listed for $37,500 and they legally had to honor the price so thats what I got it for. They accidentally doubled the incentives in the listing, and left out one that I qualified for, and added about 8500 in options and accessories that they forgot to add to the price.

    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
    • First off you mentioned "Toyo Says" and then gave the pressures 45/50, was this some person at the tire shop that pulled those numbers out of his head ?   Now of course I can't know your exact axle weights front and rear, however I have much the same pickup as yourself other than not knowing your starting weight as per the pounds the truck rolled out of the factory at due to the options yours did or didn't come with or what you have added beyond the extra tire weight. The correct way to know 100% where a person is at is by weighing each axle with the typical weight the vehicle is driven with and that means taking into account passengers and making sure you figure in a full tank of fuel and a little grace for whatever you may put in the bed "groceries" !    I am looking at and not that it really matters as all the tire companies use the same charts anyway, but I am looking at the comprehensive Toyo tire chart in the section that your tire falls under and I know it sounds confusing but your tire is not an LT metric tire like your factory tire but instead because its a standard inch measured tire its under a different category called an LT floatation series tire. That makes a difference as LT metric tires they don't want to see run below 35 psi at highway speed where as with the LT floatation series it can be run down to 25 psi on the highway as long as the weight on the said size of tire is agreeable with or less than that minimum 25 psi. It blows many people away that how is this physically possible, an empty truck for one thing and larger tires with the same size wheel diameter have a lot more air volume so they can carry the same weight as the smaller tire with less air pressure.    So my truck, I have the stock 275/65R20 wheels and tires and I have a bit of weight in the box with a bak flip cover and a rubber bed mat and some tools and spare gas. The front of my gas truck weighs a bit more than some trucks of the similar spec due to double batteries and alternators. However with full fuel and just me in the truck I am weighted such that I can run 40 front and 35 rear and so that is what I have done since day one.    If I base your truck at or slightly below the weight of my truck, in theory with your tires going by the tire chart you might be right around a minimum of 30 pounds front and 25 pounds rear. Of course that would hit pretty much minimum cold inflation pressure one could run with that tire size and a near empty truck. If you have access to an accurate weigh scale to do individual front and rear axle weights I would suggest you do that and make sure your topped up with fuel and whatever else in the truck before you weigh it and then you will have a great starting point to work off of and figure out what your bare minimum pressures are you can safely run. If you do much in the way of hot weather high speed driving, bumping up a bit for a safety margin is never a bad idea but just depends on what type of driving you do. I will include the Toyo chart and the floatation series sizes start on page 31.     • Take an automotive stethoscope to the vacuum pump. Iirc those tick as well.
