Shake or Vibration Issues

I was just reading some on the Ford forums today, sounds similar to the GM issues.

No matter the brand, there will always be risks with quality/lemons.

You're right.....but toyota tundra is best in resale for a reason. I buy american....but toyota is proven in power train ...... at least it's built in Texas!

I would consider Toyota if they actually put more effort into the Tundra. To me it's the same Truck since 06/07. The new restyle was just that, no real drive-train changes (I know this could contribute to reliability while keeping the interior up to date). The 5.7 they have in it is a pig on fuel and not the best power in the pack. I categorize resale the same as other "niches" in trucks: Sierras and Silverados claim lowest cost of ownership and V8 fuel econ, Toyota also claims reliability, Ram/Ford battle on CLASS fuel mileage and towing. I picked whatever stands out to me the most, which was V8 capability.

For the next gen it could definitely be a contender if they switched to DI or updated the fuel delivery someway somehow, or put a comparable diesel to the new Titan in it. Wait for MikeNH to comment on toyotas...

Not Toyotas claim on resale....but consumer reports and other editorials

At this point I wanted something I knew would last..yes power train is the same....but it's proven....everyone else's is new and I didn't want to go thru the same crap on a brand new design...mechanically.

As far as the design.....to each his own

The new truck has Suttle differences....but they are recognizable...and I like the squared off look and new interior is first class.

I knew it was a hog when I bought it

...

But I'd rather spend money on gas going where I want to go vs going to the shop.

Thanks for your comment. If no 15s would hv been on record having same vibration issues I probably would hv gone back with Chevy. ..but issue still present in some trucks

Had mine in Saturday for my first Free oil change and tire rotation... Had them look into my 70-75 MPH Vibration and agreed it has one... They rebalanced all 4 tires and say the LF needed 1 1/2 OZ... Is that alot? She made it out to be but I have no idea... They also tell me that it is better but may still have a vibe and for me to test it... I didn't get a chance to talk to them directly or test it with them because I got there after service dept hours... I haven't had a chance to test it yet but will today after work... I don't have a worm fuzzy about it especially after reading this Thread...

Yes, that's definitely a lot and you will feel vibration from a wheel/tire that is so much out. Imbalance of up to 0.5 oz per wheel is the limit of tolerance on a light truck like yours. On a passenger car with firm sport suspension, imbalance of only up to .25 oz per wheel can be tolerated without annoying vibration.

Thanks pm26 for the information... I feel a little more optimistic about the vibe being better after that rebalance beings is was out that much... I actually was on auto pilot, as usual, leaving work being only 6 miles from work and forgot to jump on the highway to test her out...

I finally got a chance to test it out after the re-balance and rotation and I am Happy to report that it is much, much better... It was so bad that it may still have some vibe but it feels like nothing to me now... I am headed on a couple hundred mile trip in a week and should get a better idea of where I am at... I will keep an eye on it and keep you all posted...

The vibration and shake problem sounds the same as what I experience in my 2015 Yukon with the 5.3 v-8.

I have addressed the issue with dealers from FL to my home state of MI. The service manager at a Chev dealer in FL described my exact problem before I had a chance to describe ti to him. This has been confirmed by service managers and write up personnel at several dealers.

The bottom line is it is related to changes in exhaust tome caused by AFM AFM and has been in existence in some GM car lines since the 2007 model year and is covered in Service Bulletin 06-06-05-001F. It is very noticeable at lower speeds when in 4 cylinder mode. and mostly disappears in 8 cylinder mode.

I personally have a problem with the fact that this has not been remedied since the 2007 model and with the ending sentence of the paragraph titled "Changes in Exhaust Tone'"that states "THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION FOR AFM EQUIPPED VEHICLES AND NO REPAIRS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED."

I have driven and ridden in other Yukons equipped the same as mine and there is no such vibration.

I forgot to mention that my conversation with several representatives at GM Customer Service were to no avail other than being told my complaint was noted, assigned a complaint number and placed in a "case closed" file. How's that for customer service!!

While there may be some "resonating" sound in the new body styles as related to AFM.. thats not what the vibrations are coming from.. I had an 08 Sierra z71 with the 5.3 with AFM.. and that thing rode and drove perfect. .. and it had 207k miles on it when I sold it...

Now that it's getting hotter here, 70-80, I've noticed the vibrations are all but gone. I'm willing to bet they come back this fall

Well, could be. If the whole issue is vibration causing a resonant response of the entire frame/body/interior system, then changing the stiffness of something in that system will affect the natural frequency and/or damping. In the case of rubber suspension and cab mounts, both stiffness and damping would be reduced when the rubber gets hot. This would have a big effect on the total system response. Same for tires - hot rubber is softer!

You know, I pointed out on the SUV forum that GM has advertised that they have gone to new style "shear type" body mounts. The rubber is secured laterally to reduce horizontal body movement, in an attempt to give these full size trucks a more firm, "sports car" -like ride. I still wonder how much of and effect it is having on all the vibration (and noise for the SUV's) issues we are seeing.

Anyone else seeing different characteristics in the hot weather?

Most of my vibes tend to resonate from what feels like the rear of the truck. In a search for a possible solution/bandaid for the problem I found these. In a brief search I see most guys using them are putting them on 3/4 tons and up to help with the ride. But after watching the video and looking at the possible vibration dampening these could offer I am thinking about trying them out.

Anyone have any experience with these?

There are a lot of trucks out there that have no vibrations. This is not a design issue, per se', but more likely a quality control issue.

My 2015 Sierra CC has no noticeable vibration. It has almost 2000 miles on it. There was speculation a while back on this thread if the running boards might be involved, some kind of aerodynamic fluttering at high speed. I can say, since I bought the truck without running boards, and having has them installed 3 weeks later (they were ordered to be installed when I purchased the vehicle, but they did not have them in stock initially), that there was no difference after, no noticeable vibration either way.
