So I just read this whole thread as I've been asked to see if its possible to fix this redoing the HVAC calibration on our end. That said I'm a bit confused as the bulletin states the original 2014 operation was 100% but now 90% for dust issues... that said it looks like stock 2014's who didnt have the update were still having recirc issues; is that the case? Because if so me making a calibration to move the mode door to 100% recirc sadly wont fix anything.

Check your exit vents behind your cab. There’s on one each side, make sure they are installed.

My 2018 does this as well.  I have to pass two sewage treatment plants daily and it is like having a pile of human waste put in my cabin every time.  Road kill.  Check.  Diesel trucks.  Check.  Constant headaches while driving.  Check.  I am 49 years old, and have never had any other car or truck do this.  in fact, I didn't even know we had the sewage treatment plants near us till I got this truck.  This is completely unacceptable.

I thought mine was messed up somehow as I smell everything from outside on recirc too. 

I don't use recirc very often, but when I do, its for a reason and I would appreciate it actually blocking everything from getting in.

Same thing on 2019 Silverado I just bought. Stinks like hell.Thinking about trying different cabin air filters. But, other than that not sure. Had it at the garage and they couldn’t find anything wrong, but all the bad air is coming through the vents. We’re all getting sick from it. I’ll be calling them back in a couple days. $40,000 to get poisoned is a steep price.

GMC Dealer advisor told me that 2014-2018 models do not completely close off the outside air coming in by design.

The thought is that the AC/Defrost won't tend to build up mold inside the AC unit, at least not as fast as some previous designs.

 

Ideally the User should turn off the outside air in feature before turning off the vehicle so the AC can have some fresh air to help prevent the mold smell issue on all models and doing this manually will help to keep all models cleaner inside.

I have a 2019 Silverado with the same issue. I took it to the dealer and they also told me it worked fine. Thay acted like they have never heard of this problem before.  The only way I can stop a bad oder from comming in when on recirculate is to turn off the fan.  I see there is talk of a cabin filter that might help. Can anyone tell me the brand it is?

Had a 2017 Suburban that did this. First. Vehicle ever that could not block outside air with recirculate on. Just traded it in for a 2020 gmc sierra. Recirculate works like its supposed to and I can not smell any outside air any more.

Such a Shit idea by GMC to not block completely. Inhaling exhaust fumes in tunnels and other areas is terrible.!

If you take the cabin filter out and look in there you'll see a 1/4 gap between the door and the box on recirc. This is GM's idea to fix stupid and leave the rest to suffer. After an extensive look, unless gm comes up with a flash to set a preference the fix is to find a dense foam strip 1/2 inch or so with an adhesive backing and close the gap   good luck

Ok so I think we finally have a “fix” for this even if it did take a bit and I’m sorry that it looks like we may have lost SS502 while this was being worked out

In AutoSync 2.55 we have developed a “super recirc” of sorts. With the AutoSync installed pressing the recirc button 4 times will sound a chime and command the mode door manually completely closed. Changing modes will result in a chime and super recirc disabled.

So far it seems to have solved this problem!
