I was just at my dealer in Ma. and talked with the service manager about my radio so he checked on PI 1288 and discovered that GM issued PI 1288A on Fri. Sept. 5 which includes replacing the hardware. My serial number is included so they are ordering it.

Thanks for the update, Short Circuit! I've just emailed my dealer to get this hardware update done on my truck, and 8/13 build date.

Excuse my ignorance, but does replacing hardware require digging into the MyLink unit? My only issues are slow response and a/m hd reception.

So that's it! No arguing with them because they have to "duplicate the problem" first. My dealer isn't that easy.

Talked at length to service manager yesterday, There is no upgrade on antenna cable at this time. New hardware and software did not improve HD reception in my truck but did improve regular FM reception(but still not as good as 2010 Silverado which I traded). Asked service manager to look into antenna cable with GM.

Any improvement is better than nothing with this radio. So I'm hoping.

Nothing about HD radio here.
#PI1288A: Poor FM Radio Reception - (Sep 5, 2014)
Subject: Poor FM Radio Reception Models: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 2015 Chevrolet Silverado (Without RPO AVF) 2015 GMC Sierra (Without RPO AVF) Equipped with Radio RPOs IO3, IO4, IO5 or IO6

This PI has been revised to update the Condition/Concern and Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PI1288.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment that the FM radio reception is poor.

In moderate to weak strength FM signals, or varying strength signals that alternate between weak and strong, the audio can become “muddy” or “muted” sounding. This can be caused by an environment with large buildings or mountains or simply being far from the broadcaster. The new software reduces the amount of muting, as well as the time the radio will remain partially muted improving clarity and stereo separation under those conditions.

This may be caused by a software anomaly.

Recommendation/Instructions

An updated software calibration as well as new hardware have been released to address this condition. Vehicles not already equipped with the new hardware must obtain new hardware as well as new software. Vehicles already equipped with new hardware need only update software.

Verify the radio hardware part number using GDS2 and determine if new hardware is required using the steps and chart below:

tbarn,is it possible to post the contents of condition/concern and recommendation/instructions?

Unless it's only me, clicking on them doesn't do anything.

They aren't really hyperlinks. Just highlights.. The rest of the bulletin just goes through the process for the tech to determine whether to replace hardware, software or do nothing, Lots of pictures that don't copy and pate well.

Gotcha.

I just wanted some ammo when I call dealer about this. Does it say anything about having to duplicate the problem before any action is taken?

The dealers are idiots(many, not all) When I was complaining about the radio,I took the service writer for a long ride. Most of the ride the radio sounded like the take out clown at Jack in the box. We get back to the dealer and he said to me "so what seems to be the problem?" How do you argue with that?

If you are having problems with the dealer call GM infoteam support (the number is in your manual) they will give you a problem number and even contact the dealer for you. They will help to get you past the "can't duplicate problem".

ok maybe I missed it somewhere but is this like the vibration issue where all trucks regardless of body style and equipt package share this problem?

or is this radio problem specific to just one or two types of radio or displays is it only in certain equipt packages?

I have a basic 2WT package so is my radio the same type as those having problems?

yes I know many people think its the cable or antenna but by reading complaints im thinking is the receivers in the radios are cheap crap

Had my update done it's much better. Only dropped out of HD once. But I still think I'm going to do a return loss test on the antenna and check the grounding plane.

Dealer called me today and said there was a new fix for it. I assume it is the one talked about earlier here. They have to swap the radio out and reprogram. Hopefully this works as I have already had the reprogramming down and it helped only a little..
