As I drive around town more, I have been keeping better notes of how my radio is acting and it seems to be different now. When I first got the truck (Sep '13) the radio faded in and out very frequently (faded = clear, stereo reception changing to muffled, non-stereo) or HD station dropping. I have now determined several "spots" around town where this happens, but the rest of the time it appears to be strong. I went 30 miles East and stations were strong and again 30 miles north and they were strong. These "spots" seems to be within a mile or two from my home that I frequently go through, but then in other areas, the stations are strong. I tend to listen to two stations all of the time, so I was comparing reception of a limited number of stations. I noticed the same "spots" on a loaner LT with base radio a few weeks ago. One of these "spots" is in the car wash - radio completely drops in the middle of the car wash (I go to one where you sit in your vehicle and ride through). Never lost stations in my other vehicles in the car wash...

My wife reminded me that my 2011 Silverado had similar fading, although not as bad and it did not have HD.

Funny how her 2001 Trans Am stock radio doesn't drop these FM stations at all (and yes, that was before HD, so no HD comparison).

Either I am getting used to it or just understand the issue a little better.

keep us posted on your out come, as we all have theses issues as well.

My radio is crapping out all the time, and when it was raining I could here my wipers humming through the radio when they moved to wipe the window....errrrr!

I spoke to a guy at a traffic light yesterday said he wasn't having any issues. he bought his truck a month ago

Just wanted to add this bit of info.

thank you for all you are doing to resolve this

I haven't experienced the issue with windshield wipers causing static, but I have heard more recent comments of no issues with newer trucks.

Mine is experiencing the same problems also. Build date Jan 2014. I don't want to bring it in for that and have them tearing my dash and/or fender apart so I'm holding off for now. Too bad it appears it would be hard to rip it out and replace it with a better unit mainly because you would loose all the info integration features. I agree that very old AM/FM radios don't have such crappy reception issues. I even have the XM dropping out when I'm surrounded by any small hills or small buildings and I read somewhere that someone was told by an XM dealer that the XM antenna GM put on is cheap and that's the problem with the XM. I wonder if I can at least change that XM roof top antenna to a better one if it's a standard size? But the OnStar goes through it too right? Maybe some manufacturer will make an aftermarket MyLink that has better working upgradeable systems. AAMP comes to mind.

On the XM web site there is a procedure refresh your radio. I had to do this when my weather and traffic expired and had them renew it. This might help.

I was thinking about changing out the radio. I did lots of research. The PAC interface allows you to connect a PC to it and make changes to many of the factory settings like fold In mirrors, rear park assist etc. there's also a dash kit available. You can also keep your back up camera. A bonus to me would be to add Navigation. Alpine has a direct for x800u etc.. Then I noticed that the outside temperature is only displayed on the mylink screen. Losing that would bother me. Everything else with a new head unit would be a gain.

I'm at the dealer right now, the tech just told me that there is a service update for this. They are doing it now. I'll let you know if it is any better.

Sorry, but which "this" are you referring to? The XM issue, windshield wiper static or just reception in general?

The only I update out currently is for system performance, it does nothing to the reception issue.

Let me add the GM Radio in My 2014 Sierra SLE sucks. My radio fades in and out during HD signals. I have receiving channels that are non HD in Memphis.

Factory Tech and dealership installed a New Stereo in my 2014 Silverado yesterday because of FM reception issues. New Radio is better , but still not right. Still have HD radio going in/out.

My truck was an early built, so they put a later model stereo in. Some improvement in reception, but still should be better.

With a new stereo being installed would that retain an xm subscription?

I didn't have the XM subscription on the prior radio, so I can't tell you for sure. But, I would think a call to XM would be able to take care of changing radios.
