Radio Reception Issues

We as of this morning new radio and HMI programming is a no go for fixing the radio reception on my truck. If anything it has made my stations reception even worse which makes me wonder if the dealership missed something when putting the truck back together.

 

Waiting on GM engineer to get back with me on the next step.

Sorry that they did not fix your truck, I have not heard from GM or the dealer since December, I guess if I want to listen to the radio its an F-150 or a Tundra. After ten trips to dealer truck is finally ok except for the radio. Very disappointed in the way GM has handled this concern.

Based on my dealing with the two engineers it is not from lack of trying, they are having a hard time replicating the issue and finding out what is causing the problem. I am going to continue to work with them on it in hopes of them finding a resolution of some sort.

I have been in contact with GM since Nov. 2013. GM dealer, GM engineering, GM factory tech tried an antenna booster on mine, and no fix available. My issues have been replicated and documented. No Fix.

Yeah I don't know what it is, I spoke with the Chief engineer over the truck line today. They are sending some techs from the radio division down to my area to drive some trucks and possibly mine. I plan on charting the locations where I am seeing issues in hopes of it helping them.

 

I personally think it has to be some sort of interference issue either with in the antenna system or the radio, but that is purely a hunch.

I maybe old and not up on current technology but we are talking about an FM radio here, they have be around for a long time. I can not understand why GM or its suppliers can not put a FM radio in a vehicle in 2014 that works properly. I drove a GM vehicle with a "colortouch" radio and it worked fine and I was told by GM that it was a lower trim level radio and would not work in my truck. Does anyone know of a aftermarket tuner that will correct the problem,

Anyone have intermittent issues with satellite radio ? 2 days in a row now my XM has not worked , it works when I get in the car drive a for bit and then I leave it off for about an hour and when I get back in it is not working . Wait a half hour and go back and try and all is good . I also I have an issue with teh opener not working all the time .

Not sure where I saw it, but some have had issues with XM and have folllowed their reload procedure. Go to their web site and follow the procedure to dowload programming to your truck. It may help.

Spent a couple of hours with two GM engineers from the infotainment system today doing some drive analysis in my truck today. He confirmed that he was able to hear the issues I was having with the radio, took some recording and noted the areas and said they would go over the data and see what they could fine.

 

So now begins the wait to see what a possible resolution if any might be.

We should all do this . Buy a white shoe polish pen and on the back window write in huge letters, "DO NOT BUY GM PRODUCTS" . Then take it in for service. Refuse to remove it until they start taking us serious. Im making an appointment on monday morning. It would be different if this was the only problems Ive encountered. This is my second 2014 . Both complete TURDS! If I hear "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" one more time its not going to be pretty. OH Yeah, they better fix my non backlit radio knobs as well. Not to mention the broken seat, vibration under acceleration , snap crackle pop interior, and slipping transmission. And Im just getting started . This is getting ridiculous. Good luck to everyone.

As I drive around town more, I have been keeping better notes of how my radio is acting and it seems to be different now. When I first got the truck (Sep '13) the radio faded in and out very frequently (faded = clear, stereo reception changing to muffled, non-stereo) or HD station dropping. I have now determined several "spots" around town where this happens, but the rest of the time it appears to be strong. I went 30 miles East and stations were strong and again 30 miles north and they were strong. These "spots" seems to be within a mile or two from my home that I frequently go through, but then in other areas, the stations are strong. I tend to listen to two stations all of the time, so I was comparing reception of a limited number of stations. I noticed the same "spots" on a loaner LT with base radio a few weeks ago. One of these "spots" is in the car wash - radio completely drops in the middle of the car wash (I go to one where you sit in your vehicle and ride through). Never lost stations in my other vehicles in the car wash...

 

My wife reminded me that my 2011 Silverado had similar fading, although not as bad and it did not have HD.

 

Funny how her 2001 Trans Am stock radio doesn't drop these FM stations at all (and yes, that was before HD, so no HD comparison).

 

Either I am getting used to it or just understand the issue a little better.

I head back from one of the engineers today. From my drive they know the radio is going from Stereo to Mono. They had a hunch it is being caused by signal issues from the surrounding in the area as you drive thru them. Basically it is how the infotainment system handles losing a strong signal instead of playing static instead.

 

He said they are working with the radio vendor to see what can be done programming wise to correct it, so I am going to give them some time and see. Hopefully they can get a work around in place soon.
