Transmissions Issues/Problems

It does get better. My 2014 was sketchy at best when I first got it. It's finally learned how to shift correctly and I can drive it like I did my 2003 meaning I know when it will shift and the correct throttle pressure to get it to downshift. I really felt like my trans was a lemon when I first got it, not anymore.

Speaking of which...other than using M mode, is there any other way to know what gear it is in on some kind of display?

Some must watch while others must sleep

Nope and even then you don't know. All it displays is the max gear it can shift too.... not what gear it is actually currently in. Ford has it all over these there..... M forces the truck to stay in the gear you pick and it can't up shift or downshift and what GM lets you do in M you can do in drive....... all the while you have a display of what gear the truck is in. I really wish I could force upshifts on my 8 speed as it hangs and revs un-necessarily especially while towing.

My truck displays the gear you are in, maybe it's just a Denali feature.

Must be because my slt didn't. Also you shouldn't have to adapt your driving to make the transmission feel better. It should just be better.

Really, wow I didn't know any of them displayed that. Seems like that'd be something you'd be able to pull thru the OBDII port possibly using like the Torque phone app. I've never noticed it in there though.

It doesn't happen to tell you on the dash if it's in 4WD or not does it? Or is the Denali AWD. Something I always thought would be nice. I mean you get an icon for your fog lights on but not when 4WD is switched on just seems odd to me. The tiny light on the dial off to the side just does not jump out at you.

So does my motorcycle (Kawasaki Concourse).

Has anyone tried using M5 for stop and go traffic? I've found it is a huge improvement over auto. No delayed shifting, clunking, or lack of power. Great workaround while we wait for GM to correct their shifting lag (like that will ever happen).

Tow haul mode is going to make you burn a significant amount more gas wouldn't it?

I believe so.

No need to use it without towing drstimpy. Just drop it in M5 and AFM won't activate and put it in V4 mode. Seriously, stop and go traffic and driving around town is 10x better in M5. Can't believe we even have to do this, but I highly recommend it to anyone. Quick and easy workaround.

I have done it and it still will not solve the flare shifting and overall sloppy shifting performance, especially at lower speeds which imo is were it is most noticeable with the 6 speeds.

I wonder why that is. I'll give it 4-5 more weeks and see if I'm still as happy with M5 over auto.

One way to find out...

I also found that it shifts much better if you floor it[emoji48]

1600 miles on transmission #2 and it is starting to flare between 2 and 3. If I park it so that I do not have to use reverse and let it sit for a while, 10-20 minutes, when I take off again it will flare. They replaced the first one because of it and now it is back. Wonder if we could just replace the transmission every 2000 miles. Doesn't matter if I floor it either. Did that with the first transmission, just made it flare at red line.
