Does the GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLT 6.0 6 speed have the same transmission with same problems? I'm waiting for my truck to come in soon and this thread is not good to read!!

If trans is the same...what can I do BEFORE I sign on the dotted line so I don't put it in 4WD and drive it through the show room window and end up on the 6:00 news?

Took my 3 month old Silverado into the dealership on Monday for a whine I was hearing around 60mph. They called back late that day and told me it had a "bad gear". Truck is now stuck at the shop waiting for new parts. Should have it back by Friday. The whine wasnt the only issue I complained about though. I also felt there was some unpleasant shifting under low speed/low load conditions. Hopefully not only will the whine be gone but the shifting will improve. I'll update when I get the truck back.

Same with my truck. One instance I was in the turning lane slowing down with brake slightly waiting for a car nine left lane to pass so I could pull into said lane, but, as the car passed I took my foot off the brake and hit the gas to get in the flow of traffic and the truck did nothing, I mean nothing. Like the truck was engulfed in a stupid confusion, it sat there while I pressed the gas pedal further and further getting pretty worried about the whole new set of cars getting bigger and bigger in my mirrors. I took my foot off gas and pushed back in and it finally roared forward spinning the tires like I was 16 all over again, only this time I was scared...

The transmission has acted up from time to time but a similar incident may have the potential to cause a wreck given the right circumstances.

Wasn't towing anything. Completely stock sierra 5.3 2wd 3:42 gears.

I've had the same thing happen to me a few times... Any resolution? I brought it up to my dealer during my oil change yesterday and he said "not sure, we're booked for the next week at least" - Would really like to get it solved.

14 Silverado Crew cab Z71.

I'm getting some rough/abrupt upshifts, clunks on downshifts, i've felt the drive-line lash a number of times when transitioning from coasting to getting back on the gas (gentile, not abruptly applying). I've also noticed that on a number of occasions, i've felt a surge or heard a clunk in the transmission/driveline when the trucks transitions from V4 to V8 (has happened with and without me being on the gas at).

Also, twice now while driving about 60mph with cruise set, going up a long (but not overly steep hill, truck held 6th gear) constant grade hill, i've had it where the truck RPM would constantly blip instead of holding a set RPM to maintain speed. the Tach needle accurately represented these approx 200rpm blips as they were happening. The blips were happening about 1 blip every 2 seconds and were as best as i could tell, consistent in their frequency. i don't remember my exact RPM, but as i watched it, it went from running say 1400rpm, blip of about 150-200 rpm, just enough to feel the little surge of acceleration, the rpm would immediately drop back to 1400 and i would feel the truck start to slow a small bit, then another blip. i would watch the speedometer move maybe 1mph with each blip/throttle cut (Cruise set to 60, speedo jumping between 60-61). This caused the truck to start a rythmic rocking motion with each successive blip/cut. i ended up having to kill curise control. with cruise control off, i was able to hold a constant speed up the hill with steady RPM and throttle.

Called dealer today to get a replacement key and fob (they lost the 2nd set so owe me one, 3-5 days to get one in??????) and mentioned the issues i've been having with clunking/lurching and i wanted to have them look at it as well. as soon as i mentioned the issues service rep was very quick to want to get off the phone and said we could set something up once they got my key in. more notable was the change in his tone/friendliness once i mentioned the trans issues (as well has HVAC issues its having, but another story).

Out of curiosity, what is the standard operating temp for the trans? mine is pretty consistent around the 190-195 range. i haven't studied it, but with OAT between 40-70F, i'd feel that is a good generalization. This is with running the truck empty with just me in it, no cargo, no trailer and stock OEM tries.

Its a little concerning reading all of these threads with trans issues. i had a 2002 GMC 1500HD CC 4x4 that i got rid of with 190,000 miles (130,000 of those were my miles), love that truck, smooth shifting, power, comfortable (for what it was). got the chevy based on my experiences with the GMC i had. Biggest concern i had with the '14 was oil burn with the V4 mode, but appears my concerns were possibly misplaced......

I'll update once the dealer looks at it. i'll be referencing this thread as well as the previously mentioned SB (i searched the GM site and my VIN does not show any outstanding recalls). Manufacture date 3/14 in mexico. Currently sitting with 3555 miles on it. Have been driving it since mid november. 5.3L, 3.42 rear end.

Im starting to believe its not the transmission thats the POS but rather its GM POS tunning .

All these clunks , jolts , back and forth, confusssion on when and where to shift . Its terrbile .

You may be right, they are tuning them for maximum fuel efficiency and under certain conditions the transmission ECM gets confused and things get unpleasant quick.

I do not think the 6 speed transmission is bad. We have a 2013 Silverado 1500 crew cab 4X4 at work with the 5.3 V8 and 6 speed auto and it runs great. I have never noticed anything strange about shifting, or any clunking. The truck has about 8k miles on it and no issus at all to date. We use it as an emergency response vehicle.

Well, odd. today had what felt like my first transmission slip....

Towing trailer in tow/haul mode, maybe 2000-2200 lbs towing and about 200lbs in bed. Slowing down for stop light. light turned while i was at about 30mph, let off break and started to press the gas, RPM's went from 1100 up to about 2500 but speed did not change and it took about 5-6 seconds before the truck started to pick up speed. the delay was long enough that a car behind me nearly rear ended the trailer. there was no sound or anything else strange, other than a steady increase in RPM with no speed change. i could understand it searching for a gear but the length in time seemed to take longer than expected if thats all it was. also, would have expected a surge in speed once if found a gear, this didn't happen, there was no surge in speed, the truck just slowly started to speed up to about 35-40 while holding 2500rpm and then shifted, which i thought was odd.

Lately I have been experiencing a vibration/shudder when slowly moving forward at a red light or in traffic. When I inch along with no throttle and using the brake there is a vibration or shutter. This happens in the 0-5 MPH range. NO CEL. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm afraid that the response from the dealership is going to be a generic "Sorry cannot duplicate your concern". Could a bad coil or misfire be causing this? Maybe a bad internal transmission pump? This truck is a headache. DC Sierra all terrain v6 4x4

I took my '14 Silverado 5.3L 6 spd AT 2wd LT in earlier today for same slamming, lack of power, and an incident when I went WOT to complete stop and the damn thing bogged and acted like an old car with a sunken carburetor float, also under "slower acceleration" in traffic uphill at between 25 and 35 mph the trans chatters like it wants to fall out of the truck. Dealer gave me a service bulletin that explained the bogging concern as the trans overriding my input to the accelerator because "it needed more time to downshift itself to 1st gear, and totally blew me off about the trans chattering under certain load conditions. They pretty much gave me the same fuel economy bs as I see most here have heard. One would think all good vehicles would do 2 basic things, go when you "hit the gas" and stop when you hit the breaks. Not trying to crap on this truck, I traded in a 2010 crew cab Sierra for it that I bought at the same dealer which I have been going to for the last 20 plus years. I am however questioning the decision to buy the Silverado. I'm still ticked off at the dealer's answer and non-solution to this trans issue that took them four and a half hours to come up with, however the way it was put to me, "GM told them to respond in this manner to this issue for all of their vehicles equipped with this trans including Camaro and Corvette." I thanked the service manager for saving me another $40k because I was thinking about adding a 2014 SS Camaro to the driveway but knowing it will act the same as the truck I don't want one anymore. I also asked him if I needed to simply " beat the **** out of the powertrain" in order for the service techs to be able to "replicate" the problem, I used to drag race so I know how to kill it. They seemed scared I would give the dealer a bad review, but firm on "there's nothing wrong with the trans just the fuel eco thing that I need to get used to" bs a 7000lb truck with an 8 cylinder engine is not something people who are concerned with fuel economy buy. I bought a truck because I needed a truck and I sure don't need this bs from GM. Yes I vented, I'm pissed, after spending $45k on this truck, I should not have to spend another $500 to $600 on a power programmer to make it run right, for $45k it should be "fly by wire" off the lot. I'll keep watching to see if anyone has gotten a "good fix" to this scary, potentially dangerous issue. I will likewise post if I find a good solution. My mileage 2850, purchased 02/05/2014 from a Las Vegas NV dealer that has been there since 1969. I have owned an 86 Camaro 5.0L, 92 Z28 5.7L , 89 S10 4.3L, 90 Lumina 3.1L, 2010 GMC Sierra 4.8L and this 2014 Silverado, I'm a "GM" kinda guy but this Silverado is quickly turning into a real disappointment might just be an outright pos.

Not sure which dealership you are referring to, but I got mine @ Ed Bozarth and they have had my truck for a total of three weeks so far trying to diagnose and fix a whining issue I hear. So far they replaced some gears & bearings in the output shaft and the entire rear end. Sadly, still not fixed but at least they are trying. I have a bad feeling that I may have to have them buy it back under NV lemon law. Kinda pisses me off as I really like the truck otherwise. Comfy. Drives nice. Had a Tundra previously and I like the Silverado better. Maybe I need to get the Colorado...

I was using the trailer tow button as a make shift sport mode in the mountains when having fun. It holds the gear longer and acts more like a normal vehicle. I have odd rough shifts from time to time, but no more large clunks like the transmission was ripping out since the 4x4 False Neutral update. I want to drive the 8 speed.

I also had (and still have) an occasional clunk on deceleration, hard downshifts, and indecisive shifting. After mentioning it several times to my dealer they decided to look into it. After several weeks (and 600 miles they put on it) they had replaced the TCM with no change, and then the whole 1-2-3-4 clutch housing. I would say it improved the issue(s) 70-80% at first. After a 1,000 miles it's back to the hard downshifting and clunking. I'm starting to think it's just GM's POS trans tuning as well. I don't really know where to go, sell it back and loose my ass on it, just drive it and deal with it, or go for an aftermarket tune and hope I have no catastrophic failures in the future. I've starting running it in m5 all the time except on the highways. That seems to help the shifting a good bit, taking AFM out of the equation, however the hard downshifts/clunks are still there.

Was driving around a parking lot today with the wife looking for a spot. Pretty busy, so it takes us a good minute to find a spot. The truck was absolutely over whelmed with the 10 mph stop and go!. It wasn't sure weather it wanted to go in v4, wasn't sure of the shift and ohh the worst is when you lightly press the gas and the rpm rises and the truck is not doing anything !!?!? Wtf. I hear the and see rpm rising but truck is not making any power.

All the sudden boom! Neck breaker , something happens and car magically is making power again. Kicks in like you just got rear ended. Gives you a Steven seagal neck slap.

The wife was like what was that ? To be honest with you , all I could do is laugh ( crying inside) cause dealer tellers me it's normal. I'm crazy. A few times now. I don't get it , is it too much I'm asking ?

This is GM's new NORMAL.

I have a similar story. I was stopped at a red light and I saw a car coming up behind me at a fast rate of speed. I accelerated slowly so I wouldn't get rear ended and NOTHING, then all of a sudden the truck jerked forward and I nearly hit the car in front of me. It jerked me so hard that I wasn't sure if the car behind me had hit me or not. I pulled over as soon as I could to check the back of my truck and saw I hadn't been hit. Damn this transmission.
