hi guys

just to let people know the infamous lifter tic, isn't only gracing the 5.3 litters, it is alive and well in the 6.2. motor was torn down, and they believe they found a bad cam. i did inquire about a "better" cam, but they said that requires tuning and of course, the whole void your warranty thing. there was a gmt 900 5.3 having the same work done, so i wasn't alone. i am just a little pissed as my truck has 90 km's and this is an issue. i also, was under the impression that the 6.2 was bullet proof. oh well, they say the new cams and lifters are "better".....rrrrrriiiiiggghhhhhttt. positives from this...new rad fluid, new spark plugs and a fresh oil change (even though it had only about 900km on it) = some p.m. cost savings. also, they found two lines that needed replacing, the oil cooler line and ???. thank god for extended warranty as these were supposedly 700 bucks!!!

cheers

If they called it a delaminating cam shaft, they have known it for a while. I just had the cam shaft in my 06 replaced because it was delaminating and causing a huge knock between the lifter and cam. Luckily I had an extended warranty or it would have been 3000 for the fix. This was at 90,0000 miles. Oh well, new parts and a warranty that covers them is always fun.

i think they delaminated the whole truck....they also found the head gasket was starting to leak!!!!! again, this truck is revered and i can't believe the issues and i just turned 90000km!!!

Sorry that you have had issues with your truck. These ARE good trucks. All of the manufacturer's trucks have issues. Just pick your poison.

i love the truck....but really!!! here are some of things replaced and when i say i love it i treat it better than most people treat others!!! lol!

rims (pitting, truck gets washed 2-3 times per week religiously)

springs ( 2 sets) don't tow and don't haul anything other than hockey equipment!

multiple handles in and out

head gasket, cam and lifters, and pressure hoses

drivers side mirror once (heating element stained mirror) and motor on separate claim

heated seat relays/switches

chrome steps...again i wash way more than the average bear

these are just off the top of my head, and yes every manufacturer has its issues but it is getting crazy. my wife's little 08 ford escape had one warranty claim in 5 years and runs like a top. i guess i expected a little more for what these things cost.

cheers

Maybe you are washing the finish off the parts! Surprised you haven't had any tranny issues with the Escape. How many miles? I can tell you my list of issues was a lot longer than what yours is on the F150 I traded in for this truck.

These are absoulutely great trucks!

As long as you don't use them like a truck. If you leave them sit in your driveway or the service bay - they are fine.

So far, my 13 with the 6.2 is turning out to be the worst POS I've owned and I've been running pickups for about 40 years.

Quality has gone waayyy down.

Shame on GM.

76000 km's...one claim with the back window. only oil changes and one set of front brakes. i get it detailed at the dealership twice as year is about the only money spent on it! hopefully it continues that way!

The biggest warranty claim I had on my Silverado was the rear main seal leaking. I found this leaking real early and I suspect it could have been misaligned from the factory. On the 2-3 oil change I found oil on the bell housing and oil pan. 3rd visit to the dealer they diagnosed it and it was fixed! I had a few other minor issues but nothing to complain about. My BTB just expired on the 7th of this month and I was thinking about buying into an extended warranty but I think it would be a waste of money on this truck. I hope I am not wrong, my truck has been very reliable to date.

I have an 04 and always say this thing has been amazing. then I start thinking about the work I've done to it. Most is all wear and routine maintenance though.

have replaced:

Brake pads F&R

Rotors F&R

Plugs

Wires

Hoses

Belts

Differential fluid change

Water pump

Driveshaft

Wheel hub bearings

Rear caliper

Exhaust (my decision)

Tailgate cabes

need to do:

Instrument cluster

ABS controller

Tailgate hinges

2 damper actuator motors

Find small leak in coolant system that keeps leading to smell in engine compartment.

At least no major engine or trans work has ever been needed, and I have 176,000 miles on it. Uses a quart and a half of oil between changes now, which is about 6,000 miles.

Yeah it has been running like a top. New cam, lifters, bunch of bolts, bunch of gaskets, and labor was covered. I paid to have the heads machined, new water pump put in, and the trunion bearing upgrade, all was about 400 dollars. It runs really good and aside from the time it was in the shop everything was great. Wish I would have put in a larger cam though. :)

Hey, what dealer do you use in NoVa?

    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
