Is Fiat Chrysler Autos U.S. trying to force a merge with GM?

Mine weren't fun at all, but they got the job done [emoji23]

Had a 147 Fiat, 3 UNOs, 2 Palios, 2 Sienas, 1 Punto, 1 500, and an Alfa 155. Had a pretty good experience with all. They're not tanks, though. But they could hit a speed bump without the door panels flying off, unlike the company Sebring I drove for a while.

Granted that having other options now, I wouldn't buy one again.

I sure hope not. Everything fiat touches turns to crap. They really put a hurting on gm. But all they are looking to do is milk technology out of them, and take patents. They did this with versatile before they sold it off.

...but a Range Rover is still better than any GM product. Bentley is rated behind most domestics, and they're still better cars...

Oh dear, you are not gonna make a lot of friends.

GM is the Holy Grail here.

What would make Fiat think they could merge with GM?

They sure know more than we do....

New ones or 1970s ones?

Also, granted they do have a lot of "defects", but a Range Rover is still better than any GM product. Bentley is rated behind most domestics, and they're still better cars.

Not saying Fiats are perfect, because they're not. But I'd rather deal with a door handle that had to be fixed 2 weeks after buying the car (my case with my Fiat Punto) than with a vibration that never goes away and has no cure (our trucks).

Considering the price of a RR they better bring more to the table than the stuff GM builds. That's an absurd comparison.

GM hands down has better power-trains, I know from experience that the Transmissions and the brakes on Ram Trucks suck... The Transmissions are weak, and not nearly as reliable as a GM product. The Brakes stop you, but they wear out really quickly in comparison to a GM product. I owned one Chrysler product, and would probably never go back...

I have heard this before, honestly Fiat has everything to gain, and GM has everything to lose on the deal... Fiat is struggling, so is Chrysler, GM is doing reasonably well at this point.

Gotta disagree on transmissions. Chrysler ones were problematic but almost nothing uses their own tranny now. The eight speed in the Rams is awesome. Coupled with the V8 the truck is a beast. The GM transmission is durable but without a tune it's shift characteristics are hopeless. It's like the transmission cal guy is a holdover from the 50s when automatics were a luxury and no one wanted to feel anything.

It'll be interesting to see it play out. Lots of technology on both sides. Fiat owns Ferrari and Maserati too. Maserati is taking off on their sales. They make a durable and quality high performance car these days. Sharing of technologies is an advantage to keeping ahead of the competition and bringing consumers better products.

Unions may not like this. But realistically, they're just pawns in the game of big money. The FTC may have heartburn, but when you factor in all the makers out there, it won't stand the test. It could happen.

In these days of Portugese made Winchester model 70s and Japanese Winchester 1886 lever actions, nothing is a surprise.

Maserati I think is taking off because they have come in with an inexpensive option. They offer a luxury ride in the price range of a Cadillac...

While I like GM vehicles I hate to break it to you. GM vehicles aren't built to stand the test of time any more than any other manufacturers including dodge/ram/chrystler these days.
