LED Reverse/ Backup lights in rear bumper step cavity?

They seem to fit rather flush where I intend to put them. I haven't had a chance to get them put in yet. Time and weather have both been working against me lately. Hoping to get them put in by Thanksgiving at the latest.

I know this thread is a little old. I finally recieved my Ignite lights yesterday. I want them controlled via the cargo switch from the Cab. And was wondering if this was an option.

Using a relay:

Post 87: connect positive from lights

Post 85: ground

Post 30: tap into running lights from tail light, fused (12v constant)

Post 86: grab power from the positive wire out of the bed light kit. That would act as the "switch"

read though this thread. you can get power/ground under the bed by the spare tire. In fact you can wire them up just light in this post. Not sure why you think you need to tap running lights for? (unless you meant reverse light?) and shouldn’t need the relay since they are LEDs and don’t draw much amperage. I wired my Rigid sm-r back up light this way years ago with no problems.

I've read through it a couple times. Dont I need the bedlight kit wires to get power from the cargo lamp switch?

And are you saying that since the lights only draw .85amp I dont need a fuse and relay?

I meant to add this thread to my post.

It will so you where and how to get your power and ground. It’s already fused but another inline fuse won’t hurt nothing if you’re worried about it. Shouldn’t need the relay since they are LED

Got mine ok installed today. Temporarily wired to the backup lights on the trailer hitch. I'm waiting for GMPartsDirect to ship me my bedlight so they will be on a switch.

Anyways, super easy install. Used self tapping screws.

One of my rigid ignites just stopped working. They haven’t even been installed for a year and I might have used a dozen times for just backing up. I sent Rigid a email about warranty but I bought over a year ago. I hope they honor it. Anyone else have a problem??

Double check your wiring. Same thing happened to me. I emailed rigid and they sent me an rma # to send them back in. When I went to take them out I double checked my wiring. I must have forgotten how lazy I was when I installed them because I used butt connectors and was going to soder later. Turns out that one of my grounds was bad. Rewired everything with soder and heat shrink. They work great again.

This is a great thread. Thanks for the information. I order the LED bulbs for the backup lights and will swap them out as soon as they arrive. I’m probably going to spring for the Rigid lights in the step, but went to Amazon and they’re $144. Should have got in on them when they were first posted. They were running $123 then and some deals were still to be found.

If anyone who originally did this modification is still around, it would be great to get an update on your satisfaction with the mod and how the Rigids are holding up.
