I'm really close to pulling the trigger and installing lights in my bumper steps. I want to wire them into the cargo light switch. The rigid ones look pretty good, but I really don't like how the wire comes out the back.

I'm wondering how these KC cyclone lights would work?

http://www.kchilites.com/light-type/led/cyclone/2-cyclone-led-light.html

What I like about them is the flat back, and the wires come out the side. So I can drill one hole to pull wires though, and bolt them in where I want to. It says they are 516 lumens.

I'm afraid they won't be as bright as I want, because it appears that the rigid ignite ones are 1000 lumens.

Anybody a lighting expert? or found a different light that works beside the rigids?

Puling this one out the grave but i like this upgrade and will do it soon. For my wiring i was wondering if i could wire it to both the cargo lights and my reverse lights. Correct me if I'm wrong though but i think if i did it that way my reverse lights would come on when i have the cargo lights on and my cargo lights would come on when i have my reverse lights on. Does anyone see any major problems with this?

Well, I started this thread over 2 years ago. I finally made my decision and installed my lights.

I used the KC Cyclone lights because they have wires exiting the side and they are easier to mount with a single bolt through the plastic bumper step.

I'm very happy with the amount of light they provide. Its a huge improvement over the regular reverse lights. I wired into the cargo light circuit so I can control them with the switch in the cab.

Here are the before and after photos of the amount of light thrown against the garage door:

Here is what the light looks like up close:

I was debating on doing this setup but you have helped me with that decision! Where did you tap into the cargo lights at and do you remember color the wires were? Thank you!

Red wire is hot, Black wire is ground. I tied into the wires going to the connector in the junction box behind the bumper. It is the far right connector in this photo.

I have more photos in my gallery.

the bed lights don't come on in reverse, unless the cargo switch is enabled. And those aren't bright enough to bother my vision from inside the cab anyway. I keep the tonneau cover closed if its snowing, so i don't even see the bed lights.

I don't need the extra bumper lights on all the time for normal driving. I only wanted extra light if I'm plowing (which is like 1% of the time I'm in my truck or doing some other work outside in the dark.

Also is a resistor needed for the b/u leds?

any bulb that fits a 921 can be used. I got some cheaper ones from Amazon. My 2015 taillights were not sealed, i don't know about 2016. No resistor was needed for me.

Ah, okay, I think I got it now, wire the bumper cavity lights to come on when cargo switch is on and in reverse, rather than anytime in reverse......not a bad idea.

Old thread I know but one thing I would love to see if possible is some pictures of the lighting from in the cab with tinted windows. I’d like to do this mod since I can hardly see out my mirrors with my tint. Most pictures are from the outside or the back up camera but is there significant change while looking through your window to back up. Any help would be appreciated.

Just saying thanks for this post. I used it to do mine, specifically the Rigid lights.

Wired to the cargo lights.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
