Air Filter/Intake on a '15 5.3l Sierra

I drive a 2015 Sierra SLT 5.3l, looking to put in a K&N Air Intake system (77 series) or just the Air Filter. Looking for suggestions on which route to go, and if you have a K&N filter or Intake in your truck I would like opinions on them

had both over the years . last two trucks mit air tube & K&n drop in dry filter. very happy with it. Yes I do it again

Some say replacing the air box is pointless, the stock box & filter already supply plenty of air. Changing out the tube is arguably the only improvement we can make. I bought the Airaid MIT for mine, same engine as yours.

 

I'm sure some will swear they got more performance from a whole CAI replacement.

 

do you plan on doing a tune? if not I would just go with the new tube and call it good.

Just get the MIT from Airaid.....looks better. easier to work on and you get to keep the excellent GM filter box and filter! Both are Excellent except for the screw on 1qty corner?

another vote for the Airaid MIT or Jr intake kit (Jr kit comes with the tube and filter)

 

I bought the Jr kit... for the $160 i spent on it.. I'm fairly happy..

 

dont really notice any sound... MAYBE a slight mpg difference... but not EVER having to replace the filter is nice, and I opted for the DRY filter.. so no oils... tap clean.. vacuum or blow clean if necessary...

I was initially considering the MIT with a high flow filter utilizing the stock air box. I'm glad I didn't. I was suprised to see a couple major restrictions within the 2017 OEM air box. Test after test has proven little to zero gains solely with the MIT.

 

I had a leftover K&N air filter from my 2013 in the stock 2017 air box with the OEM itake system, and noticed little seat of the pants performance gains, but a small increase in the amount of noise.

 

For $317, I purchased a brand new Volant CAI system, and could not be happier- not only the sound, but even the initial seat of the pants performance gain. The filter in the Volant is even easier to remove and replace than the OEM setup.

I went with air raid mit tube and aem dry drop in filter and im very happy with it.

I have an AFE CAI with a dry filter and a Black Bear tune, I think it is great.

I know it's been awhile but not long after this post I went with the 77 Series K&N intake system. Very impressed with it
