Did you need the VIN to plug into OnStar?

Yea I provided them with my vin and they connected me. I put a geo location on it so when it leaves the lot I will receive a text notifying me so I know it’s on the way to the dealer.

How did you get the VIN? I'm surprised that OnStar let you track it like that since you don't own it yet.

Technically I do own it. Paperwork was signed. Paperwork sent to gm financial. Dealer already had a vin assigned.

Got a tag transfer and all.

What was the advantage in doing that?

Really no advantage. I was locking in the incentives and rebates for the month of June. Issue was that it was the only RST available. They have several locations so it could of easily gotten sold at another location. I worked out the deal. Put my down payment and locked it in.

Hi there. Fellow member here also waiting for a truck that is currently waiting for a ride from the boatyard where it was dropped off 2 weeks ago. Regarding onstar. Do you just call them up and tell them this is your ordered truck and this is the vin. Could you please tell me where it’s current location is? Or do they interrogate you with 50 questions?

I was just in contact with Onstar and they told me this was not even possible. They told me Onstar could not be activated unless someone pressed the blue button. Been waiting 4 months for this truck, ordered 3/5/2020. All I know is that its been in transit for a week and I live 4 hours from the Plant.

It is possible. Worked for me. They can activate it without pressing the blue button.

I’m currently looking at the location of my truck. I can see how much gas is in it. Tire pressure and odometer reading too.

Lol! Tell them that you are the owner of the vehicle. Provide the vin. That you are trying to locate vehicle and need your onstar app to connect. They should connect it for you.

Well. I was going to give this onstar thing a try. But. I just checked my emails. And my salesman emailed me 2 hours ago with the awesome news. The truck has arrived at the dealership. The pre delivery inspection will be done tomorrow morning. So I have an appointment to go check it out tomorrow afternoon. Finally!!

I think that between Chevy chat and OnStar they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground half the time. I asked chat if OnStar can ping the truck and they said no. That the blue button has to be pushed twice? Chat gave me the VIN and said it departed Silao enroute to Lordstown, OH on 4 July.

On a related note my son pointed out that my VIN contained the word YEET.

Some Chevy chat people don’t even know what an event code is. And some have told me that’s confidential dealer only info. I just disconnect and hope the next person has a remote clue.

Keep trying. I had a few chat people say they cannot provide it. Then I found one person that provided me with the event code.
