2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

New user here, interesting thread. Traded my virtually flawless 07 Tundra for 2014 Sierra 4x4 5.3 6.5 foot box 10 weeks ago. 9,000 miles later zero vehicle defects and just one dealer defect. When they did the free service at 7,500 miles, they didn't properly tighten the lug nuts on any of the wheels. I didn't discover this until the truck spit one of the lugs off. On that particular wheel, only two of the remaining five were snug, though they still were not torqued properly. Checked all four wheels and not a single lug was properly torqued. Going to meet with the GM this week to discuss corrective action on this issue. My overall experience with this dealership has been great, so I'd rather not raise a stink with GM Corporate if I can avoid it. However, I'm sure mine isn't the only vehicle they are putting out the door with improperly tightened lug nuts, so this needs to be corrected. Whatever they do, I think I'll be going to Discount Tire for all my future rotations because I know they use torque wrenches and not just air guns to tighten the wheels.

I also have an '07 Tundra and am ready to trade in. The reliability of my Tundra has me thinking I should just buy another one. I wish they had done more with them, like a 6.5' bed on a CrewMax, integrated trailer brake controller and auto-start, but that is also why you can get one for $5-$7K less.

Any new vehicle can have its quirks, but lets be honest here - there's no comparing a Tundra to a Sierra (or an F150 or Ram for that matter). Just like I wouldn't compare a Ford Ranger or Colorado to a Tacoma. Different leagues.

You think the Tundra is without problems? The new ones are piles of junk if you ask me. Frames rotting through, trannies blown, random electrical failures, trucks just flat out dying for no apparent reason. Strong (but dated engine), weak tranny, weak frame, UGLY, cheap interior...yeah I'll take one of the big 3 over a TOYota any day of the week.

Don't believe me? Go ask someone who owns one or troll on a Tundra forum for a bit.

Hmm. Not sure I agree . Yes, the Tundra falls short on all the bells and whistles of the new Big 3 offerings, but the '14 Tundra is significantly improved in the interior. Is it as nice as the GM or the RAM? No, but not THAT far off. As far as reliability, I have to disagree strongly. I never had one issue with my '07. 106,000 miles, and I was towing a variety of trailers while i had it, the lightest at about 5000, the heaviest over 10,000 fully loaded. Thing towed great. I dont know what you are talking about regarding the transmission either, they dont even have to be serviced until they have 100,000 miles! Never did anything other than general maintenance. Maybe I got lucky. I love the new GM trucks, but the amount of shit going wrong with them seems ridiculous. I also think they are seriously overpriced. That said, I will probably still end up buying one. :P

I too was set to buy a new GM 1500, but have decided to wait. IMO, there really is no comparison when it comes to quality when you are talking Toyota vs. the domestics. I would have bought a Tundra without skipping a beat, but the one thing that bugs me about Toyota is that even though they make great vehicles, they are slow to improve technology and their designs are too conservative. Had Toyota gone with a direct injection V8 that could return 18 mpg, i would own a Tundra. During their update this year, they neglected the engine and decided keep old technology, which gets horrid gas mileage. Very few people will buy a pickup that gets 13 mpg when they can get 18 mpg. Now it looks as if Toyota is still several years away from using an engine that is as efficient as the others. IMO, gas mileage is the main reason I would buy a GM over a Toyota.

Yes, they are very conservative. I was surprised hat they did not make any motor or drive train changes. They could have at least added direct injection, integrated brake controller and factory remote start. That said, they still are considerably less when comparably equipped. Though they lack some of the bells and whistles. Gas mileage isn't a big concern for me due to the fact that my boss pays for my gas. Nice perk. Especially since I get about 7 mpg when I tow my toyhauler. Gonna drive the Silverado and Tundra back to back this weekend.

Ill be honest I could never bare the thought of a Yota in my driveway specially a truck, but thats more on principal. But if your honest and look at quality numbers the tundra is a good truck. Now titan, well thats a different ball game. But lets not forget the issues yota has been having with recalls and what not either. And Yota is doing a lot with making trucks here and trying to promote the vehicle as American made, but dont be foolish yota would not be doing it if it cost them money, and if you look at the economics of it all its definitely a policy to line the pocket in Japan more than the US. But for the US economy it definitely does more for us to make them here then it does in japan.

The japanese are the masters at process' but no so great at innovation and you see that in their trucks, they are great copy cats and great at reverse engineering. You at a lot of things they do its copy of an American product.

I get what you are saying. When the '07 Tundra came out, it really was a good 1/2-ton truck compared to the Big 3. My '07 was a better truck than my '02 Siverado 3/4-ton. That thing lost the tranny at 50K miles. Unfortunately Toyota hasn't really done much since then other than cosmetic updating - which was sorely needed. The trucks are just as "American" as the domestics, but yeah - still have the Japanese stigma. The Tundra is a quality truck though and I would have no issue with driving another one. I am a big fan of Chevrolet, but I can also say that my Tundra has been a great truck.

10,000km with about 30% of that off road and not a single problem!! *knocks on wood*

The only issue I have is that the nav girl has horrible voice recognition and doesn't understand half of what I say, especially a problem with adresses that are 6+ digits long. eg. "11541 178st", comes out as "1154 hasting street" lol??

So I rarely use that anyways.

Are you talking about the nav girl in the dash or the one in your passenger seat?

I agree to an extent, but I still feel as if the Japanese bring a lot to the table in the automotive world. If it weren't for Japan basically kicking our butt for a couple of decades, the domestic truck or car you drive would be total garbage. Look at the domestic cars of the 80's and 90's, they were terrible! We had to improve, or get totally left behind (or bailed out).

I also think it's unfair to compare Toyota to Korean brands that are newcomers and obviously copy other designs, Toyota and the Japanese have been building equipment on their own for nearly as long as we have. Toyota does the small truck better than anyone, and has for 35 years.

I live in central KY where Toyota has had a strong presence for almost 30 years with the Camry, and KY, IN, WV, and OH owe a lot to Toyota. I think ALL manufacturers copy to an extent. There's not much left to innovate these days on the pickup truck.

Toyota vs. Chevy... Who gives a crap, don't hijack this thread. Remember the name of this thread? "Any new 2014 Silverado owners having issues with their truck?" Start a new thread and discuss Toyota nonsense.

I've been following this thread just about everyday to see who else is having issues with their new 2014 SILVERADO and what is being done to fix it. Like many of you I am having problems with my truck.

1. Column shifter is loose.

2. Condensation in the headlights

3. Moving drivers seat. Dealer failed to fix it twice

4. Rough idle

5. RPM fluctuating

6. Loud clunk in the driveline

7. Missing lighting in the dash around radio knobs

8. Heat/cool seats don't work on remote start

Multiple computer updates and this crap is still happening. I've dealt with multiple GM reps. Next step is to lemon this turd.

that's a pretty long list. When was your build date?

I had 7 out of 8 of those same issues you are having on my last truck. Chevy did a buy back program and gave me a fully loaded truck in return. This one so far seems to be doing the job very well. However, my knobs still don't light up, the chrome trim seems dated and I'm starting to get a burnt smell from the engine compartment on further drives.

YUP I got 8,3,4,6 on my new (only 2350 miles LTZ Z71)

Here is my update regarding my new the 2014 chevy Silverado.

First of all Thank you Jennifer T. For helping me with my 2014 LTZ Z71 rear axel issue.( FYI it has not been solved yet)

I have owned 2 2014 Silverado in the past 5 months and I think I will be buying something else soon, NOT GM.

My first Silverado purchased back in august 2013, had a hard transmission downshifting, broken seat, and a inoperable park assist.

dealer had it for a month ( open ticket for month and a half ) And the issue was never resolved.

I got rid of it after 3 months of going back and forth with my Local dealership and GM.

Thankfully GM they gave me buyer assistance ( because lemon law would had damage the reputation of my local dealership) towards the purchase of a new Silverado which I did! Thinking those issues were related only to my previous truck. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!

My 2014 LTZ Z71 currently has a clunk noise that comes only when its cold (early mornings usually) Their research ( no idea where they get this info!)

its normal.

Here is their explanation: "Vehicle is operating as designed, the clicking noise is caused by the axle but its meant to do that" Don't think so!

I have done my own research on 2014 silverados with the same package as mine (LTZ Z71) and 2013 silverados with the package LTZ Z71 and they research have indicated the NO NOISE AT ALL.

I have also tested the Ford 150 and the ram 1500 and again no noise.

I could live with the rest of the issues but........ I will not ! not for a $50000.00usd pick up truck.

I am very disappointed !!! even with all this issues this is a great truck! Don't get me wrong. I just can't continue driving a truck that I am not 100% satisfied with.

Hell maybe its me and I am cursed!!! who knows.

Dear GM:

how do you plan to be the No1 selling truck in the market, when your quality control team lacks love and care for the consumer.

Thank you.

they have fixed my broken seat. Yeah!!

    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
    • I have four that read by the dash 8 to 10% better than miles/pump calculations and I have one that is spot on.
    • The average lifespan of automobiles on the road is increasing - here's why
    • Typically it is the Torque Converter, I have a 2.7L Trail Boss and between 25-65 MPH at 1300-1500 rpms under light throttle it has a shudder which I almost consider and bobble or a gargle sound. They replaced my TC but it did not help any, others say it has fixed their issues. It has been back twice now with no fix after.
    • Still $3.01 with even more places at this price
