I have heard of a number of front end problems where they simply forgot to put fluid in the front diffs from factory, at least from a relative's new 14' sierra. But such a vibration led to an unmistakable whining then clunking then grinding shortly after....followed by a new front diff.

GM bought back my 2014 Sierra due to the "unfixable" vibration. Prior to buying it back they had swapped out tires, wheels, rf balanced numerous times, and changed out the driveshaft. I gave them my 2014 back in December of 2014, when my 2015 Sierra came in. Was in the dealer yesterday for unrelated service issue on my 2015 Sierra and I got to talking with my service advisor who told me they "fixed" by 2014 Sierra. He told me GM sent them some sort of new vibration analysis tool and that it showed the vibrations coming from the front end. They ended up replacing the front axles and he said it is now smooth as butter. I had a vibration at 40-45 then anything over 68 MPH.

He also told me that they had 2 2014's in for service for the vibration issues last week. One was fixed by a driveshaft swap, the other needed 4 new tires.

My 2015 has been very smooth with no issues.

There has been a new escalade at my dealer for about 3 weeks with the front diff out it. It has 26,000 miles and the customer complained about a vibration/noise in the front at 78mph. Its taken about 3 weeks to get a new one ordered in for it. The service advisor also said that the person has been driving it around most of the time in auto 4wd

I'm curious.. Did they refund ur $ or give u another truck? Also, did you have to get a lawyer? I'm in conversations with GM now about wanting out of my vibrator. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

"High strength steel" is a very generic term. Could be any number of steel specs, and I don't know which one GM uses. And, I don't know what grade of steel "standard" frames and body parts have been made of, but I'm sure that has evolved over the years. That said, I would be surprised if the automotive industry uses A36 for frames. A36 is a structural steel spec for standard rolled beams and other standard structural shapes. Frames are typically formed by the automaker, likely from some plate or bar material. But I wouldn't presume they use A36. There might even be an SAE spec that they use.

I have seen A36 steel specified for hydroformed pickup truck frames before, I just do not remember whether it was for Ford or GM pickups. This was about two years ago.

I have a 14 sierra , had a vibration issue with 13 miles on it .. they replaced 2 "defective" tires on it . vibration still there . they said to drive it and let the truck "break in" truck is now in the shop for the same issue with 7,800 miles on it . . dealer says my "aftermarket exhaust" is causing the issue and it wont be warrantied because of the modifications . whats funny is the truck has only had the exhaust on it for maybe 2,500 miles . they have rotated and balanced the tires and checked everything else . what I find funny is my 2015 sierra loaner truck vibrates worse then my own truck...

dealer just called and requested that i return the loaner truck and pick mine up . GM has denied the warranty claim due to the modified exhaust and drop shackles being installed on the truck , shackles were done by a local shop that does lift kits and drop kits for this dealership and said it wouldnt cause any warranty issues . GM says they have not denied anything and its the dealership refusing to work on the truck ..Amazing what kind of different stories you can receive between 2 different people . i guess a BBB complaint and Lemon law action will push them a little ?

I stand corrected! Thanks.

Take it to another dealer. It is obvious that this dealership is using these excuses not to work on your truck because they have no idea how to fix the problem.

I will have to take it to another dealer as to im not "allowed" back at this dealer . will be removing lowering shackles and exhaust and taking it back and let them see that my "modifications" were not the issue . its not my fault that GM cant produce a good driving truck

I have relied once, and have been following this discussion for months now.

My 2014 vibrator is no longer an issue as I traded it on a lightly used 2015 Yota 4Runner Trail Premium.

Last Friday, the regional service msnager was in town and did the picoscope test and said my truck didn't have an issue. It had the low and high speed vib.

Picked it up friday afternoon and as soon as I got up to 40 the vibe was still there and at 72 and up.

Of course, since the GM rep declared the truck trouble free, GM would not reimburse the dealership for any claims associated with the vibration.

So, rather than keep the vibrator and waste my time dealing with GM and the lemon law process, I took it in the shorts to get out of it.

I will not be purchasing any GM products for the foreseeable future,

The truck had 11 different tires, 7 RF attempts, and the fatass regional rep can drop dead.

On another note, my dad has a friend that had a Chevy Silverado get a new rear end due to a whine from an improperly machined race, and now he has the vibe from the brand new rear end, which was supposedly hand certified by the rear end manufacturer. So much for the 2014 truck of the year.

I loved the interior, the tech package and the looks of my Sierra (2914 SLT Double Cab) but hated driving it.

But as I said, it's not my problem any more, and GM can deal with it with the next owner. Boy will they be pissed if they take it in for the vib and find out GM won't touch it!!

GM is screwing their dealerships with this POS, and I hope they get sued by someone with deep pockets.

wow, that sounds similar to my story. Dealer pretty said that they don't have a fix and that they would call me if a fix came up. This was my 3rd GM truck and my last. I traded mine yesterday for a f150. Not that they are perfect, but at least they have fixes for their issues.

Hate you had the luck you did. Mine was a vibrator too luckly tires fixed it. I traded from a toyota tundra best truck I have ever had only reason I went to gm was for fuel mileage the tundra sucked there.I believe I would have hit the gm rep in his fat mouth. Hope it all goes good for you.

There is nothing like great quality control to produce a good truck.

So I'm a still a big GM fan, and have been on the fence about buying a new truck because of some of the threads on this forum.

Today I went by my local GM dealership to look at some new trucks. Of the 4 that I test drove, 3 of them had a serious, serious vibration at highway speeds. I test drove different trucks since they didn't have one that had the combination of all of the options I wanted. They told me that the vibration was from the tires flat spotting from sitting too long. This wasn't the first time I've test driven a new vehicle so I rolled my eyes at that comment as that didn't seem to be an issue problem for the 4th truck. I figured that this thread was a very small snapshot of the over owner experience, but test driving 3 duds like that back to back has put a seriously sour taste in my mouth.

The biggest concern for me is that because of the options I want, fire red, crew cab, SLT, 6.2L, 8 speed, NHT, no moonroof, that I definitely have to factory order the truck I want. Waiting a few months just to potentially end with a truck that will be a warranty nightmare is not sitting well with me. Especially since we don't have lemon law protection up here in Canada.

C'mon GM, get your shit together. I feel like I'm in denial trying to defend an abusive relationship.

Canada does have what is called CAMVAP which is like an arbitration process. Bought my 2014 Sierra 4x4 CC Z71 back in August and the dealer has had it for a combined 11 weeks . New rear end, tires and various other parts and RF balance and it still vibrates. Dealer has been very cooperative and is aware if not fixed next try CAMVAP will become involved.

    • Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.
    • The thinking is that starting out in a higher gear makes it easier to avoid applying excessive torque when pressing the gas pedal. In a modern 4wd truck with 4 low and a limited slip or locking rear end, I would use 4 low and try to crawl up the ramp. Sometimes if they are too slippery, you have to back up to let the boat have some bouyancy, and then accelerate briskly to get some momentum to help you pull the through the slippery parts.
    • I have a Retrax pro that I first had on my 2020 chevy and transferred it to my current GMC.  It stays in the garage most of the time, so hard for me to judge it's long term weather resistance.  It still works perfectly, been very durable.  It doesn't see oil patch usage, but it's not a mall queen.  It keeps most things mostly dry (small leaks) and the security of it is enough to slow someone down but not keep them out for long.  I would buy one again, it works for me.
    • Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.
    • The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.
