Balancing the tires got rid of 80% or so of my vibes but still have some. I believe in my case it is a combo of out of round rims combined with crappy tires.

Got mine back last week from 3rd visit (second dealer). Tech did the PICO and determined it's "in spec". He can't do any work that GM wont refund him for. He admits there's a vibration but blamed it on the cheap stock SRA's.

 

I'm gonna keep playing with the clamp location and maybe try some different tire pressures to see what combo I can live with.

I've had this exact same conversation with my dealer. $4k later I've got the vibration down to a minimum. The problem is once you feel it and know what to look for it's all you can focus on no matter how small.

FINALLY AFTER A YEAR OF FIGHTING AND TWO TRUCKS GM IS REPURCHASING OUR SIERRA!!!! This has been a long crazy road and we are finally free! For those of you who haven't seen our story - we had a 2014 Silverado rally 2 that shook violently. We agreed on a replacement vehicle and picked up our 2015 Sierra on September 1st. About 1000 miles in it started to exhibit the same vibration. After waiting and waiting we finally received our response. GM will be buying back our truck!!! WE'RE FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Anyone had v4 mode tuned out and see the issue go away? Cant remember if its in this thread or not but I remember seeing people claim it only happens in v4 mode.

My truck was a sluggish vibrating mess. On the advise of my dealer and unofficially GM tech support, I did a Diablo tune. Disabled afm, 87 octane with firm shift. Truck so far is working great. No vibration and I now love driving it.

 

There is no one source for vibration in these trucks. The factory ECM/TCM programming was the source of mine.

Abominable, were you the person that was going to look for someone to balance the wheel on the truck so that hub and rotor were factored in?

If so, what were your results?

Last question for the crew, will a worn shock or one that loses its ability to dampen cause a tire to have excessive bounce. I think the answer is yes but:

Would it feel like an out of balance tire even though it might just be road undulations?

 

Coil springs on the front will pick up a natural resonance, some springs actually have weights attached to break up the resonance. If my shocks are worn (36000 miles but not leaking), it may not be able to stop the spring resonance by applying the forces against the spring.

 

I have a stretch of road in town that has manhole covers placed in the section where my right tire hits them.

It feels like the front end stutters over everyone.

 

I drive the exact same stretch of highway daily and to be honest some days are completely different than others with the handling

Properly treated In the very end but the process was a long hard fight. GM sadly tries to use ANY argument they can so that you lose. It's sad that I had to bring my 6 year old and 1 month old at the time just to show the arbitratior we're people and not another case. It's sad that we had to wait over a month for our decision on the case. Luckily, he saw through everything and ruled fairly!

Im lifted so my u-blots were crushed on as tight as possible.

 

Just wanted to check in and see if the clamps are still keeping the vibes at bay. I stripped one of the clamps taking it off, so ordered another set and am going to put them on the rear like you have. I previously had them in front of the axle with not much luck.

I see on this forum some of our members are finding CV joints in the front with too much play. Will that cause a front steering wheel vibration?

These CV joints apparently meet the Chinese quality spec.

Well the dealer threw a bunch of parts at my truck and they said its ready for pick up. LOL

 

It was GM final attempt to fix this truck. Like the 6 times or so I took it in and they told me it was ready.

 

Lets see tomorrow when I pick it up and take it for a test drive. I'll report back.

      Yes I agree, its what amounts to free advertising to let people know about his UOA testing company, and not that there is anything wrong with that but certainly that is a motivator for putting out videos about the science of oil as well as other topics such as oil and air filtration etc. The interesting part I found with his last video is not only the physics behind the reason for the varying wear due to a diesels working torque range causing more bearing load and that higher viscosity oil is of benefit, it was also that the chemistry behind the GM Dexos 0W-20 and the Mobil Dexos licensed 0W-20 are far enough apart that its showing up with a difference in wear even though the two oils are matched in viscosity and in that comparison viscosity was not having the finger pointed at it.    There are a few youtubers out there or one anyway that I have watched a bit of who has gone through the pains of accessing various countries manuals for a certain engine platform and while in the US/Canada it may say use 0W-20 or what have you for some Toyota product, in some other countries it sings a very different tune for the very same engine with the typical traditional oil viscosity/ambient temperature charts to help choose which oil viscosity is correct for the conditions the vehicle will be used in and in some cases its taken an engine in a US manual that states only use 0W-20 as per warranty coverage and yet that same engine in certain other countries may have up to a 15W-40 etc oil option that meets the spec. Another words the guy who is driving through Death Valley or Phoenix and south weather at 120f is often being fed a line of bs by the US system that has forced vehicle companies to restrict the warranty to a specific low viscosity oil for anterior reasons as well as the long drain interval suggestions.    Thankfully youtube is free ( yet anyway ) for viewers to sift through information and of course comes with the good and the bad ( truth and lies ) and we can choose to turn off/not watch what a person finds is bs or just not interested in the topic.

      No doubt... But, as someone who doesn't pay for his services, but who has provided a few views/clicks on his Youtube platform, the data around the Mobil oil testing I think does have some value including to "freeloaders" like me.   A lot of what he's doing is likely showing the OE's work in their oil selection, something that many of us had kind of assumed was true all along, a good balance of both excellent protection and efficiency.

      Lake Speed is drumming up business for his company just by being in the spot-light so he has a vested interest in stoking the 0W-20 fire.  IMO
