I got the truck back this morning. Yes they had to keep it overnight!! They said the radio software update is what took the longest. They have to connect to GM's network for the update and its hard telling what the download rate will be. They didn't do the module update. So far I think the reception is better. I'm picking up stations that I've not been able to pick up before. I'll judge it for a week and see how it is.

I did get a nice loaner truck for the night. Fully loaded 2015 GMC Sierra CC/SB 4x4. The radio in it came in strong.

Just curious...what is your build date?

In another post it's 9/13.

Strange that they didn't do the module while they had his truck.

Mine is a 10/13 build and it's getting the module and update tomorrow.

Agree. Thought early build need the module. Mine is 8/13 and I'm going to dealer in two weeks for this.

Step 1 find the end model p/n. No you cannot get these numbers without a proper scan tool.

Step 2. "Before updating software, check the tuner build version. The “Audio Soft Version” label should be 000478 or lower. If version 000478 is already installed, DO NOT reprogram. Software corruption can occur."

Fairly straight forward. Don't understand the confusion. No available correlation between build date and p/n. Could be one but not apparent though.

Thanks for the clarification tbarn. The confusion comes from what was posted previously about build date. Now it makes sense why some are having just SW update while others are getting both SW and HW regardless of date.

Thanks again. I'm sure my dealer will do the right thing as I've had good support from them.

Earlier this week I emailed the infotainment engineer I was working with and got this response:

"Todd,

I have actually changed jobs out of the Infotainment group as of about a month ago. I think they are still waiting to see a proposal from the supplier. So nothing new to report yet, but they are working on it.

As far as Ibiquity and the antenna cable, Yes I am quite familiar with that story. Ibiquity created the HD radio technology. They do not supply anything directly to GM. No there is no truth at all to there being a problem with the cable.

Last year someone from Ibiquity asked me if I had any ideas about radio reception on a “friends” new K2 truck who had already had the antenna, and tuner changed. I mentioned the cable as a possibility of a one off damaged part. There is nothing wrong with the design. The antenna, and coax cable in the K2 have not changed since about 2004, except for the connector that attaches to the new style radio, and that connector has been in use by GM for almost 14 years."

I wil be emailing the Chief Engineer next so I can be kept in the loop on the changes, my #1 concern has been if a change is made to fix the reception issue and it is not backwards compatible with the 2014 trucks what will GM then do at that point to make the 2014 owners right.

Ok fellas as I stated in an earlier post I took my truck in on 9/13 for an oil change and I asked them about the radio update. I was told by the service adviser that the update did apply to my truck but the radio sounded fine to him this was on a Saturday. Monday I called GM Infotainment dept. they then took over and called the dealership and set up an appointment for the following Sat. 9/20 to have the update done. I took the truck in and waited for an hour and a half then was told they could not do the upgrade without replacing the module. The service adviser told me he would order the module Mon. 9/22 and should be in around Wed 9/24 and he would give me a call and schedule a time for me to bring the truck back to do the module and upgrade. I have since then been contacted by the GM Infotainment rep twice saying that she has been in touch with the dealership and they have yet to receive the module. So today I called the dealership since I have not heard anything from them personally since Sat. 9/20 I talked to the parts dept. and was told the part has been in. I then asked to speak to the service adviser that I spoke to the last time I brought the truck in to have the update done. Was told he was with another customer so I left him a voice mail. Ten minutes after getting off the phone the Infotainment rep called and said she called yesterday and was told nothing she was told the dealership had a policy to only let the managers talk to GM reps and the service manager was not in. So after waiting five hours and not hearing from the service rep. I called him back this time I talked to him to see about bringing my truck back in. I was told that they had not received the part yet and he would check on it and call me back. This after I have already been told that the part was in. Where do I go from here this is the same dealership I bought the truck from and the only other GMC dealership is two hours away one way. Their is a Chevrolet dealership one mile from the GMC dealership I am currently dealing with. I am now very concerned about letting this dealership touch my truck ever again and how hard would it be to get someone to authorize a Chevrolet dealership to do this upgrade

Well, got my truck back today after the module replacement and software update. Only drove it from dealer to home. Seems to be better, but not completely cured.

A couple geographic places that the reception was down right horrible is a lot better now. I also noticed the volume is much louder at lower number settings. Also have multiple HD channels that I didn't have before.

I'll get a better "picture" when I drive it to and from work tomorrow.

Mine was changed last week and the results are similar to glc's except that where the reception was horrible or lost it did not improve. It is better overall. This is in hilly north central Ma.

Like stated in my previous post, it's better but nothing to get too excited over.

I really didn't expect anything more than what I have now because of those on this forum that had the update done, both hardware and software, all with similar results.

So,we are stuck with this POS radio until something else may (or may not) get to the drawing board.

It has been several weeks since my module change and software update. Here is what I observed, the regular fm reception is not as good as other vehicles including older GM trucks. The HD is improved but still has a limited range in hilly areas(upstate SC). In talking at length with my service manager the short coming of this radio are why it is not offered in 2015. I wonder if there is an after market radio and has anyone installed it and has it improved reception?

my HD and FM were horrible, took it to the dealership and the did the software update. my HD and FM are still horrible. end of story.

but when HD does work, it sounds amazing with the BOSE system. better than xm or Pandora.

My experience is the same. I had the update done and it's still no where near the radio quality of my old nissan frontier. My biggest complaint is the normal FM sound quality. It sounds slightly better than it did before the update but not a huge change like others have said. The only thing that I really notice as a difference is the volume doesn't drop as much as it used to when the HD cuts out. I just wonder why GM released an update that went through the trouble of changing hardware when it really didn't help much at all. Looks like were just not going to get decent radio out of this truck. It's a shame because other than the radio I really like the truck.
