Diablo InTune!

So my wife got me an early christmas present =D

 

I have had it for a week now and have been running the octane 87 tune and I loved it. Ever since I lifted my truck and put the 275/70/18 Grabber AT2's on I've noticed

she's been a bit of a dog. Also I have 3.42 gearing (Wishing it was 3.73) Just today decided I was going to try the Diablo tune and fiddle around with some TCM adjustments.

I went +1 on part throttle shift pressure and +2 on WOT shift pressure. Added 100 RPM to each shift aswell.

 

I have heard ALOT of good about this product, but at the same time I saw some posts that almost made me second guess getting it. So I just wanted to post this up for you guys

to tell you all to get this. Im going to run the can tune for a bit and then definitely going to get in touch with Lew.

I'm curious what to expect from a 99 Silverado with the 5.3 from a hand held tuner. I'm hoping for 30hp and 2mpgs

So, are you happy so far with the tune? I was very happy with the high octane tune provided with the Intune. Along with a MIT, and a couple of other mods, the truck runs fantastic, shifts better, and feels much more refined.

 

It has run a best 15.6@91 in the quarter mile, which is good for a 5.3 4WD loaded extended cab with a 300lb driver.

Very happy. I would love to run my truck on the quarter mile. Dont know of anything really close to me though.

Just got my Diablosport Intune for Christmas. Hooked it up to the laptop today but didn't get a chance to load a tune in the truck yet. I'm in Michigan and its a bit chilly, should I warm the truck up before the tune? Its a bit cold blooded with the 6.2. I get the rattly start up noise that won't go away for a few minutes and for the last month it starts a bit slow and kinda idles low too but only on a cold start. Should I run the scan tool first? Going for the hottest tune on the unit I can since the 6.2 requires premium or e85 and lately I'm paying $1.29 for e85. Should I fill up with premium before the tune? I really wanted a Blackbear tune but my computer skills stink along with the fact I really wanted Justin to do a meet in the mid Michigan area but either missed it or it hasn't happened yet. Thanks

Hey man don't worry about the engine being warm. It just rewrites the ECM and TCM. All electronic. I'd run your tank empty and fill with premium before doing the tune. Man that 6.2L is going to be nuts all tuned up!

 

Run the canned tune for a bit and see how you like it. Then get in touch with Lew http://www.diablewtune.com/ . He can do a custom tune for you using your intune. He will help you through each step of the way. Do some research. Every forum I've read says their truck has never run better.

Not going to get anything close to that with the stock tunes on any of of the handheld tuners. About half that would be more realistic. To get to those numbers you will need to get the device and run some logging for a while, then send the logs to a custom tune builder to have a custom tune made. A custom tune that is specific to your truck can certainly get those sort of gains though. That being said it will still be quite noticeable. Even the stock tunes really improve driveability with the improved shift points and all. You can also correct your speedo for larger than stock size tires and adjust some of the parameters yourself. I ran the 87 tune for quite a long time and run the Diablo tune nowadays. I figure if I keep my foot out of it, the mileage improvement alone comes close to offsetting the additional cost of running premium gas. Plug when I do want to put my foot down the performance is downright sweet running the Diablo tune with premium gas. Do not however run the higher performance tunes without also using premium gas or you run the risk of knocking which can damage your engine.

The Intune is the one I have and yes, you can change the tune between your original stock tune, the 87 octane tune, and the performance tune at will anytime you want. Takes just a few minutes to change the tune on the truck. Pretty much plug the Intune up to your OBDII port, wait for it to boot up, then follow the instructions in screen. It will have you turn the key to the on/run position and back off a couple of times while it backs up the current tune (or the stock tune) and then loads the new tune.

Finally had a day on the new tune now. Used the hot tune, firm shift setting with a bump in firmer on the 1/2 shift. Very impressed so far. Feels way quicker off the line and gets me to speed befroe I realize it. Rolled into the pedal after a stop then floored it and things were a little scary ...Then all of a sudden I was going 80. Big goofy grin lol

Before you start fiddling around with the line pressure, you should consider installing (or having install) a TransGo shift kit.

I used the canned tune in my 6.0l for a while and it made a difference and then contacted Lew and had him make a custom tune. Best bang for the buck I did. When I get my new 6.2l in a week or so I'm going to do the same thing. I'm curious what it will do for the 6.2l.
