Wait - the 16's don't have an SD slot? Do you have buckets seats or bench?

 

On the bucket seats it's located in the center console. Flip the console lid open and it should be over on the right hand side near the front.

On the bench seat it should be located in the bank of ports under the center of the dash.

 

At least that's how it is on 2014/2015's ...

No SD slot on my 16 LTZ with buckets. There are 2 USB slots and an auxiliary input in the area you describe.

That sucks on both counts. After living with the time-shift radio for a couple years, I couldn't live without it. On long trips I listen to news programs, etc. You can tune to the channel, hit PAUSE, swap to your SD card and listen to music for 20 minutes, then turn back to the radio channel and listen and you're able to FAST FORWARD ALL THE COMMERCIALS! That rocks.

 

And the music on an SD card does seem to work better than a USB. I don't know why they'd remove that.

So according to my dealer, the time lapse feature from 2014/2015 was deleted to make room for Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

 

It would make sense since the 2014 and 2015s aren't getting Apple or Android.

 

There's been some debate about weather those features were always there and can can be modified with programming.

 

But, it does make sense to me if there was a hardware change from 2015 to 2016 that deleted the hard drive for time lapse and added the module for Android and Apple.

 

For me...I'd rather have Apple and Android vs time lapse.

 

As for the SD Card slot, no there isn't one. There are two USB post under the radio and two in the center console.

 

All play back music and video off my USB drive.

 

I just need to enable the feature that activates video and nav controls while driving. I just won't do until the Android Auto update in March.

Yes. It is in the console with buckets (where SD reader was in 14-15). Not sure of exact location with the split bench.

Yes. Along with 2 usb and a 12v socket charger.

Sorry in advance of its common knowledge, but how do you enable that feature? I just picked up my 1st chevy/silverado new 2016 Silverado 1500 with the 8" navi unit. Thanks for any info!

One of the vendors of the forum can disable or active a few features on the oem systems.

SD slot is gone. Mine is the vented buckets.

Inside console, on RH side are 2 USB's and a round (3.5mm?) one. LH side has a 12V power outlet.

 

Traded the SD slot in for wireless cellphone charging. :happysad:

Dang that sucks. The SD is now my favorite. I used to use the USB with my ipod or whatever. Now only the SD slot. Soo much cleaner not having something plugged in and in the way. Not to mention it's faster and sounds better. Why in the world would they remove the pause and sd slot and the front end. WTF GM.

USB's like this sandisk are small enough not to get in the way. Just enough sticking out to be able to remove.

I have one very similar to that. It looks like the logitech unifying receiver if anyone knows what that is. Bought it for use in my 2011 regal which was my first USB equipped radio. Worked great in my 14 Terrain and now my 16 Sierra.

 

The 14/15 Buick Regal that had a 7" intellilink had the live radio pause as well, and was removed on 16' as they'll get the same 8" as the GMC/Chevy has.

The usd memory stick does the exact same thing as the SD card?

 

The radio read movies & music off of it. I can also plug into the center console a forger about it.

 

What's the difference? Better yet, what the big deal?

 

Ultimately, if you're using Android or Apple, you'll be streaming from your phone.

 

Who actually needs a sd card slot, USB drive slot, 3.5mm jack, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Bluetooth streaming, and a CD player. I think we're going to alright with our first world problems.

The sd card pushes in and fits in flush for me. I have stuff in my arm rest and it can slide around and hit the stick that sticks out and takes up room in there. I didn't like my Ipod and cord in there floating around pluged in. As for phone play. I don't use my phone for music and such. Pandora and I hart blow and cost data. Not sure what else phone radio does without costing data other then maybe play clash of clans at red light on my dash? My truck already calls, answers calls and reads me my texts. I used my USB for years in my 13 and now that I figured the SD out in the 15 I don't want to go back. Its just sleek. Almost like its not even there.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!

      I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
