Today I asked about this problem at my local Chevy dealer and they acted as if this was news to them. Just how widespread is this vibration issue? Just out of curiosity I will test drive a new 2014 Silverado with Goodyear Wrangler tires and see how it rides.

make sure u take it up to 75 80 mph and push it a little hard to get to 75. don't floor it just push it a little hard if you know what im saying. if it dose not shake let go of the gas down to about 65 and then go back up to 75 80.thats how i fell my truck start shaking.

No they didn't. if they did they didn't tell me that. They did say they reprogramed the transmission.

its going in next week for the forth time.. get this they want me to go test drive another one so i can see they have the same vibration.. this is after the dealer service mgr , shop forman and service advisor all admitted to me there is no fix.... THIS IS ALL BS IF U ASK ME.. Im just taking it in so i can more visits to start the lemon law paper work... Hows that going with you.. I heard its a long process.

y would they want you to try out other truck if they r not going to swap it out they r dumb. yea i heard that it is a long process but F it. i turned my paper work in 2 months ago and called in a month after i did. they said that i had a case worker working on it and got a case # and his name. I haven't called to get an update but i will be calling him maybe this coming week. but i hear that i may take up to 4 months but this is new to me too. i recommend you do get lemon law involved man they r not going to fix this anytime soon. sorry to say

I'm going to leave the truck next week so the gm spcialist can test drive it... ( he cant say its the goodyear because it has ugly ass continentals on it already ) for what the all drive the same like shit.... how many miles on you truck? my first visit was at 235 miles Looks like lemon law here i come...

what my truck had the goodyears and they just changed them to continentals lol. about 2 weeks ago but i have not been able to test drive my truck because i work out of town i did drive it with the continentals for about 2 days it felt fine on some roads but on others it didn't. but i didn't have time to drive it that much. my truck has 6000 miles on it and i have had it for like 6 months i think. good years r not going to solve the problem cuz i had them tires

Sorry for all the troubles everyone is having. I drove a dozen 14 Silverados and Sierras before buying and none of them had a vibration issue. It was a good random sampling of all the different tire sizes and brands, as well as a couple with lifts and aftermarket tires. The one I bought had a lift and aftermarket tires from day one, and it is still trouble free after 12,000 miles. I sure hope you all find the fix, because this is a huge blemish on an otherwise fine truck.

I'm friends with the my local Chevy (owner) along with the service manager. I asked both if they have heard or had customer complaint's on the 14 Silverado vibrating/shaking. Both told me it's the first they have heard of it. Both are good fiends and I have no reason not to believe them.

 

Like I stated earlier in another post on this thread, My truck has almost 6500 miles on and rides butter smooth. I certainly hope that those with issues, get a fix soon. I know I would be super pissed!

Just come across this and haven't read the entire thread,,, so anyway I recently purchased a 14 which does have a vibration around 65-70..its small, but noticeable when there is a strong head wind. The truck I first test drove had a very noticeably vibration and the day I drove it there was strong head wind, this truck also had the 3.08 gears, when I got back to the dealer I made the comment to him about it and of course he knew nothing.. so a couple days later I went back and test drove another the truck, the one I bought which had no vibration at the time....fast forward to a few days ago I was heading to work and there was a strong head wind and the same vibration I felt in the first truck I test drove is now happening to mine but not as noticeable, also my truck has 3.42 gears. I want to think it has something to do with tranny, possibly the programming.

Perhaps these vibration issues are a combination of mediocre tires, transmission shifting pattern programmed for maximum fuel economy( i.e shifting into higher gears too soon) and also the AFM system deactivating the cylinders. Seems to me that in their quest to maximize fuel economy , GM has shot themselves in the foot and went too far, introducing unpleasant vibration into the whole package. Maybe some trucks have a worst case stack up of these vibration levels and these are the worst ones.

 

Have you guys tried to drive your trucks in the tow/haul mode for some time to see if the

vibration is less pronounced? Tow/haul mode raises the shifting points so that at least one possible factor is eliminated. Another attempt I would make is to deactivate the AFM electronically to see if anything changes.

 

I really hate to see anyone get rid of a new truck due to a tire issue or something that can be corrected. You will always lose thousands of dollars when trading for an equivalent new truck, no matter what make or model. Dealers these days are a lot more greedy than they were some twenty years ago when they were happy to make $ 1000 on a used vehicle. Now they want to make at least $4k or $ 5k and even that does not seem enough to some.

    • Of course actually engaging four wheel drive is step one or even daring to use a ramp like that with a two wheel drive and getting into a mess because of it. As to 4 low, these last few years if its a GM half ton it may not even have low range. A lot of the newer pickups have a lot lower first gear in an automatic transmission then they once did as it was common at one time for a gas engine truck or even the older diesels to just sit there and bog the engine due to the torque converter stall point and not enough torque was generated on reasonable traction to even spin a tire or get out of its own way up a steep grade and 4 low HAD to be used to get enough power to four tires to get them turning. These days traction control systems may hinder a vehicle in a situation like that although that means a tire or tires are spinning so in some ways the traction control can reduce wild spinning and anyone can correct me on that but I think some vehicles cut traction control off in low range ?.    By the sounds of it and you may have the proper equipment but if your responsible for helping vehicles out if they are not able to get out under their own power, I would say to be using a nylon tow rope or have one available so that one is able to give a bit of a run to help sling shot them some initial momentum as most tow straps are made out of polypropylene and impart way too much shock load if used to jerk a stuck vehicle into motion but are totally fine to use if going more from almost a dead pull with the tow vehicle and they are a lot less expensive to replace if damaged. That and some soft shackles to hook onto closed loop tow hooks on the truck your pulling as well as you having the proper shackle insert in your truck so there are no bad accidents with metal clevises joining things together or chain on the end of a tow rope or tow balls being hooked onto etc flying and causing damage or worse if it lets go. Its always a challenge pulling people because some are clueless and will over run the tow rope or strap and drive over it or that risk of ramming into the back of the tow vehicle so usually a few instructions are needed to clue in the driver of the stuck truck. TBN and ZDP levels matter. The one thing not covered was sufficient viscosity. Sad.     And yet we now have since API SN lower amount of them all with the only real change being a slight up tick in base oil selection. Along with lower concentrations of everything that makes oil work and lower and lower viscosity there is still an insistence on longer OCI's.    How low does the peanut butter and jelly level have to get before we say it's just white bread folded?    The new smoke and mirror treatment is the 'additives are INVISIBLE' to UOA testing with a health dose of TRUST ME.    I'm not picking on AMSOIL. This is coming from all of them. Every last one of them that abandon the low wear model in favor of the high mpg/EPA compliance model. 
    • First off use it in the way you’re more comfortable. In working in off road situations most of my life I used 4WD low range very little. In most cases when equipped I used auto 4WD. If I wanted maximum control going up and down very steep terrain  I used low range. Especially if I was driving a diesel. Same with very rutted terrain. In very muddy or snowy conditions I wanted momentum so high range worked well for that. With gravel ramps with limited traction I would try high range first. I would want smooth even increasing speed if I was fighting traction. Low range could give you too much to the wheels breaking traction trying to move. 
    • Having owned 4wd vehicle since the 1970s I find there are varying opinions on how to use 4wd, every owner is an expert in their minds.  IMO, 4LO is the appropriate gear and what I would use,  You have to feather the gas to avoid spinning tires and the lower the gear the better chance.  But like I said you will find those that think their method is best.  I live near a boat launch.  Yesterday there was a new Ford Maverick pulling out a pontoon boat almost 2x its size, they had no problems and they don't have a LO range.   True story. One winter day not long ago I was coming out of small town post office and there was a F150 4wd parked in front and was stuck foot deep snow ruts. I knew the lady so I asked her to put it in 4wd (wondering why in the middle of a 2-day snow storm she wasn't).  Her reply surprised me, "my husband" (the expert) told me not use that because it uses too much gas. She finally got unstuck spinning in 2wd which likely used more gas than not.  
    • Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.
