I was thinking about the front suspension again, there is aluminum a arms and there are steel a arms randomly installed in these vehicles why?

My truck has steel a arms installed with 40mph - 55mph vibration.

This isnt what is causing it because some vibrate and some dont, but i was just under my CEO's 2014 Ram 1500 Crew and notice that it has vibration damper on the outside of each frame rail under the drives and passenger front doors and also a damper built onto the drive shaft front yoke just off the transfer case, also have heat reflective sound deadening mat above the transfer case, transmission, and under both the driver/passenger floor board. Just some thought

Just some advice, take it for what is worth which may not be much. If they are still willing to work on it and think it is the drive line, let them keep trying and complain here. Maybe they will get it fixed before they give up. At least he didn't get out of the truck and say they were done. That day may come.

Oh it's the text language barrier here. I'm not agitated so much at the service guys (yet, until they give up or say it's fixed when it's not) just the fact that we spend good money on a vehicle to have crap like this. This is my first brand new vehicle and may be my last depending on how this situation and the next few years roll on.

As far as driveshafts, I know my factory one is aluminum but not sure if it had a pn on it. I was under the truck this morning and don't remember seeing a tag or anything. Anyways, I'll keep an eye on recent posts in here and will update when the new shaft gets installed.

Was hoping to not have to post on this one but it has happened. When I bought mine in August it had a slight vibration in the front that was fixed by a quick balance. I now have 4000 miles on it and just took a 450 mile trip to the keys and on the way down it started to vibrate the back seat around 72 mph and by the time we got there it was worse. The vibration on the way back home was worse from 70 to 86mph. Just left the truck at the dealer for RF Balance and they said that 3 of the 4 tires are defective and the 4th is borderline. They are replacing all 4 with new ones so I will post back the results. Did ask them about the Michelin upgrades and they said they would if I pay the $350 difference which I am not willing to do yet. It appears as if these tires may start out ok then go bad??

Anyone know if the Michelin LTX M/S ride as quiet as the OE Goodyear's?

A coworker just put some on his Toyota 4Runner and loves them. They look less aggressive than my Goodyear SRA's so I assume they will ride just as well, if not better.

My truck is also in the shop today for vibrations. I'm like you I think it's a tire problem since the truck was great in February but after 2700 miles the vibration started to creep up. If they balance everything today and the ride improves, I think I'm going to definitely get an alignment done at an independent tire shop at my expense to make sure that's not causing bad tire wear. I've stated this before but I have a side mechanic I use who is a former GM dealership mechanic and when I told him I bought a new truck he told me to immediately go get an alignment done. He said GM doesn't align their trucks when they build them they use plastic tabs to set the alignment to predetermined calculated points and it causes uneven tire wear not having a true alignment done.

I certainly think this is a possibility. I remember reading about a forum member who would have the truck ride fine for a few thousand miles and then would start vibrating again. He had the OE Goodyears and he did a test. He grease penciled a spot on the tire and rim in the same place. A few hundred miles later, the two marks were not in the same spot, indicating the tire actually rotated on the rim some and threw off the balance.

I wish my problem was tires but I got rid of the OE GY's and have some coopers on, all road force to lower than 12#, and a few other members have aftermarket tires with low road force and their truck still vibrates.

I hope for your sake its only tires, but there are a couple of different issues we are all chasing down.

Mine came with Continental Crosscontact LX20 tires. No vibration, but they did "flat spot" in the cold if the truck sat for a while. I have always liked the Michelin LTX M/S 2, so I changed them. Smooth and quiet. I love 'em. These are a touring type vs AT, just as the Continentals.

Thanks for the info guys on the alignment and the Michelins. Just got a call from the Dealer and they said they have found that two of the four new ones they mounted are defective also so they have to order two more and wont be in until tomorrow. I asked them how many times they want to remount new tires just to find that they are no good and waste countless hours rather than just giving me a decent set of tires and being done with it. They said if they get these other two and they are bad, then they may be able to get the Michelin swap approved. Hard to believe that these tires have been an issue for so long and they still try to use them. Does Goodyear pay the Dealer for all of the time the techs put into these issues?

I wish I had found this site 2 years ago.. I have owned 4 new Chevy trucks in the last 18 years and I recently just bought my wife a new 2013 Equinox's. So I am a Chevy man. Only on one occasion have I ever had to take my truck to be serviced, and that was my 1994 short bed. The clutch went out at 6,000 miles.. Other than that I have never had a problem with my prior trucks.. I now own a 2012 Chevy 2500HD and it is the worst truck I have ever owned. I am posting this because I am having the same problems that the original guy and others are having and for 2 years I have been trying to get the problem solved.

This truck vibrates as it roles down the road since it was new. I have felt it in the peddle the accelerator and throughout the truck. It cups the tires on the inside and the out sides. The center of the tire has 1/8 inch high and low spots after 6,000 miles. I had taken the truck in numerous times only to be told they cant find the problem. I purchased new tires. They took my tires off and were going to put the new ones on but they later found out that they couldn't get then in so the put my old ones back on. I sat there for 2 hours after they had been put on, no one told me the job was done. I had to ask if the job was done.. That was an accident or so I told myself... I brought my truck back a few day later I didn't have time to get back I had work to get done which I told the service man. I can back to have the tires put on and I waited.. Again the tires were finished and I sat there and sat there. I had to ask one of the service men if it was done again I found out it had been done for 2 hours.. To me this was there ploy to keep me from coming back. I work out of my Truck so my time is valuable as is my truck.

I came back a few months later to have 2 armrest replaced because the cracked out (only one was replaced) so while I was there I showed the cupping to the service man and told him that it still vibrates when I drive the truck and I was kind of blown off. At that point I was feed up. I called GM who then called the dealer which then got the ball rolling. I brought the truck in again and they brought in the manager which I then showed him the cupping. He tells me that since I only had one paper showing rotation (I rotate them at my shop most times) that he couldn't do that much. That if I wanted to buy 2 more tires that he would pay for the rotations. I said bullcrap I just paid over $1,000's for tires, that I wouldn't buy another tire. He came back and said he would buy them but I would have to pay for the rotation. I really didn't even want to come back remember I was left hang on two different occasions for hours.

I agreed and when they went to put the tires on they realized that they put C tires on and E's were suppose to be put on. sS they replaced all 4. At first the problem seemed better but after a week or two the problem was there again I am sick of it.. If I have a 44oz drink in the console it shakes like crazy. My mirrors have wobbled for so long that everything is blurry when in use..

I now have Googled the problem and the vibration problem seems to a common problem, But I haven't heard of to many people complain about high/low spots and cupping of the tires..

I now have called GM and set another claim and I have switched dealers hoping for some resolution. The problem I have, is I now have 67,000 miles on the truck. My first phone call about the problem was when the truck had less 15,000. I am so disappointed with GM. If this problem isn't solved I will never own another GM vehicle again..

Sorry for the rant but I just found a site where others are having the same problem I have.

The trucks arm rest on both sides are cracked out. I tried to check the tranny fluid for the first time and the dipstick holder is cracked in half at the mount (For how long is the question) When I start the truck 1 out of 4 times it turns over 8 to 10 times before it starts. I own a lemon!

Ok so I just picked up the truck with 4 new Goodyear tires that were RF Balanced and have zero vibrations from 0 to 100 MPH. We will see if they last or just go bad after a few thousand miles like the last ones. They did agree to put Michelins on if the problem happens again.

That's BS that the tech couldn't feel it. He's flat rate. He makes crap working on a vibration issue.

When I went for a ride with the tech, he tried to say it was normal. He also let out an audible sigh indicating he's not interested in a vibration. If there's no vibration , why do these dealerships keep throwing all kinds of parts at them. Don't let GM brush you aside!!

That's hilarious my tech guy did the same thing... They get paid a % for the work they do. They don't want problems like these, they want the easy pull out the bad put the new in.. I really don't blame them.. But on the other hand people like us get the shaft due to the way these dealers pay there mechanics.. The service rep told me that they want to find the problem which I am sure they do but there is a certain point where they realize that it is more than they want to get into due to what they can make.

Has anybody thought about putting it on a lift and running it up to the speed it shakes at and looking/feeling around the underside?

You don't even need a lift, putting the rear end on 2 jack stands will work. You can also eliminate all the constant "it's the tires" comments if it still vibrates.

Well I'm happy to report that I think it was my tires. I picked up my truck this evening and the rep told me they had to road force balance my tires and found one that needed adjusting. On the ride home I noticed a major improvement. And this is after I adjusted the psi a couple weeks ago and that helped then which initially had me thinking it was the tires. So I'm definitely going to a specialist next week to get a proper alignment done. Other than that I'll just keep the tires balanced and rotated and run these for a while to save some money until I can put Michelins on.

They were unable to fix my shifting driver seat so I'll probably go to another dealer on that. And the MyLink display is flickering again after over 2 months of working fine and thinking they had fixed it. This truck.....one day at a time. It's a love-hate relationship.

    • First off, I'm not trying to just get easy advice/fixes for the issues I've noticed so far.  I'll be combing through the site via searches and such, and if past experiences are any indication, should find what I need.  For the sake of conversation, though, I figured I'd post the handful of things I've noticed in the 12 hours since buying my 2010 SLE CCSB.     Indicator lights: Airbag and TPMS.  The tire pressures aren't reading for any of the wheels, so I'm pretty certain the sensors were either removed, are damaged, or are otherwise inoperable.  I used to mount and balance tires 25 years ago but am pretty much ignorant when it comes to TPMS.  My 2006 didn't have the sensors and this might be the fourth vehicle I've owned that does.     Radio: Rear speakers aren't working.  I removed the driver's side rear door panel and checked the speaker and wiring.  I also removed the sill and b-pillar covers to check the wiring.  A few minutes of Google Fu showed that this is potentially a head unit issue.    Switches: Power mirrors don't turn left/right.  I ordered replacement driver's door switches that should arrive tomorrow.  The windows and locks work but it was only about $20 for all of them.  The driver's side rear window switch lets the window down but won't put it back up.  I think the passenger rear doesn't work at all.  In the coming days/weeks, I'll break out my multimeter to check all of that.   Unknown wiring harness: There's a box attached to the front driver's side of the engine compartment, right where the second battery shelf is located.  There are three plugs, one of which looks like it fits a standard headlight-style bulb (9007 or similar).  It doesn't look like it's plugged into anything.  I'll do some digging and if I don't see anything elsewhere on the site, post some pictures here.   Unknown plugs on brake booster: There are at least two female plugs on the brake booster that aren't being used.  I think it might be a replacement/aftermarket, so maybe those are used for a different application, as there don't seem to be any unplugged harnesses and no indicator lights are on.   Little squeaks when turning: Sounds almost like a bushing around the bed of the truck.  I'll have to pay close attention as I get more familiar with the truck.   Clunk on acceleration: possibly the infamous drivetrain clunk.  My 2006 had it and I'm just not familiar enough with this truck yet to fully grasp what it is.   Anyway, my apologies for the vague and all over the place post.  This truck is new to me, and it's been four years since I drove my 2006.  With 200k miles, I know I'll need to learn this truck quickly to avoid having any major issues, despite being confident it's got much more life to it.  My 2006 had nearly 320k on it when I parked it (nearly 300k of which I put on the truck), and it was still drivable then, though I suspected the head gasket might have blown.  I'd hoped to have that truck back by now, but it's gone forever, as I detailed in my reintroduction thread.
    • I always drive in Sport mode. With more driving, I am finding the initial response when accelerating is much quicker now🖕 Lou
    • Is it an optical illusion in the pic or is the truck really squatting that much horribly?
    • My initial introduction was here.  It's hard to believe that I last posted in February 2013, having just deployed to Kyrgyzstan.  Since then, I've retired from the military and the 2006 Sierra SLT Z71 that first brought me to these pages was lost.  I went forward to Afghanistan in March 2013 and did a lot of sitting behind a computer on brigade staff.  Within 18 months of getting back to the States, I was selected for Drill Sergeant duty, after which I moved back to Virginia (my home state and where I served from 2004-2008).  That '06 Sierra did a lot of driving between Louisiana, Georgia, and Virginia, and ended up with nearly 320k miles by 2022.  By then, the registration had been expired for a couple of years, but the pandemic had all but eliminated tickets for such transgressions.  Admittedly too, I usually drove my wife's SUV or son's car the 2-3 times a week I had to report to work.  Teleworking sure was fun while it lasted.   I started my retirement leave four years ago and stored the Sierra at my sister's house.  A big mess was made when her fiancé passed while she was taking care of business out-of-state in late-2024, and his son pretty much mismanaged everything to do with the estate.  Even so, I was assured that my truck was safe... until it wasn't.  I found out that my truck had been scrapped about four months after the son took over everything.  There's nothing I could do; I'm 1000 miles away and it was technically abandoned property since he'd even trespassed my sister from her own house (she had no claim to it as she wasn't married, and the fiancé was the sole owner).     Anyway, today I got my second Sierra.  This is a 2010 SLE 2WB CCSB with a little over 200k miles on it.  It's got the 5.3L I'm familiar with and should handle what I need it for.  Hauling stuff that won't fit in the Transit Connect (yep, I sold out, but that's the wife's vehicle) and towing a few times a year tops.  The price seemed decent, considering how much people sell their trucks for in the Deep South: $4500.  I've seen similar trucks listed for more than double that.  I got it from a coworker who left his tag on until we transfer the title next week (Louisiana requires a notary for transfers), so I've been driving it all day.  The rear speakers don't work, which is one of the things that brought me back to these forums earlier.  I can't say how active I'll be as a poster, but I'll be scouring the archives while I find out every little thing I can about the 2010s and particular nuances/problems with my truck.   It's definitely not a GMC, but I got another Willys Jeep a few months back as well, so I'm almost at the same place I was when I first joined gm-trucks.com.  My old 1960 DJ3A was sold back around 2010 or 2011; my current Jeep is a 1946 CJ2A.  So, I've got a slightly newer GMC and a much older Jeep.  I kind of wish I still had that F-250 I had way back when too.  The Dakota is long gone and was technically my brother's truck, though I had it registered and insured.  The F-250 had to go when my grandmother's house was foreclosed on due to mismanagement around 2012 or so.     Hopefully anyone that made it this far isn't too annoyed.  I tend to be long-winded, but I'll be doing more reading than posting in the coming months.
    • There was a recall on the tailgate in general for opening on its own. Mine has a cap on it and it won’t let the tailgate open.   My tailgate has two holes in the top of the tailgate. I filled them in with silicone sealant.
