Possible FIX!!!!

 

 

I was informed in another topic that this was still an issue for a lot of you guys. I have had no issues with my truck however my dad has. We both took our trucks in for recalls within the same week and we both had all the same recalls done except he had one extra that I did not.

He has also had mpg issues while I've always been happy with mine. After I put on larger tires and a lift we were getting the same which isn't right. Keep in mine the only difference in our Z71 LTZ's is the color and he has the factory trailer brake control.

 

He told the guys when he dropped it off that he was having vibration issues at idle and lower speeds. When he asked what the extra recall was they told him it was new motor mounts. He didn't go into detail about them but I will try to get a recall number when I see him next. Hope this helps some of you.

Picked up my 14 Sierra 40 to 50 mph vibrator after a 9 day dealer visit while I was on a near 2000 mile motorhome trip (94 Ford SuperDuty chassis). Glad my GMC doesn't shake like that Ford! Waiting for a new rear end GM thinks will correct my vibration. My feeling is that this is a transmission issue but what are the chances that GM would start replacing all of our transmissions? ZERO.

[email protected] is who everyone with this problem needs to send their concern to. Marry Barra is the CEO of general motors and I got a phone call from someone in her office a day after I emailed her about my case.. May be worth sending an email to every one else on this page http://www.gm.com/company/corporate-officers .... The squeaky wheel gets the grease and we are not going to get answers until they really understand the magnitude of this problem and how unhappy we are with these trucks. I for one and fed up with the way GM is treating me and everyone else.

Thanks for the post. So did the replacement of the motor mounts help to resolve or minimize your dad's vibration/shaking issues? Also, do you know if your father had any issues when he had his truck at highway speeds (Speeds at 65+ MPH)?

My loaner that I am driving while my truck is at the dealer is a vibrator.

 

Its an SLE Crew cab, short box, 5.3, 3.08 gears. It has either the basica 17" or 18" wheels and i dont remember what tires. has a subtle vibration around 45-50mph, something that my truck does NOT do. Haven't had an opportunity to take the loaner on the highway tho.

 

I can see why this would annoy people.

 

 

Haha least they give you trucks! Im 6'6" and they always give me Buick enclaves... i fee like im getting into a coffin everytime :ughdance:

Replacing the motor mounts completely fixed his issues. When I asked him again today he reassured me that it fixed all problems he was having, even gas mileage. Before he was saying that this may be the last Chevy(GM) he ever buys again, now he love his truck like I have since the day I got mine.

He did not complain about any issues at highway speeds but I will ask him to make sure. I drove his truck on a couple occasions in town and it was very noticeable.

 

I assumed he got his fixed so everyone was starting to, I would have posted this a long time ago if I knew you guys were still having issues.

well hopefully they do find a fix but many times someone reports a "fix" only to find out it was just a rare one time or a few vehicles that it fixes. most times when this happens its trucks with more noticeable in the low speed vibrations then the high speed vibrations and many of those trucks have been fixed by replacing the ring gears in the rear ends.

 

most of the trucks they CANT find any fix for have just a minor low speed vibration or wobble sensation and its the high speed vibrations that are the more dynamic vibration that is the first thing you notice.

 

ask him what was the build date on his truck and if he felt "anything" like a strong vibration like a loose wheel at 65-70 mph on smooth roads, it wouldn't be anything he could not notice or feel since the seat shakes you like someone is trying to wake you up from a nap

Yea my service writer usually gets me a truck, its nice. One time I did get a GMC Terrain, and That was a little tight.

Ohhhh man, don't go telling people on here that replacing motor mounts increases MPG... :noway:

 

This is very fascinating though, who would have thought those were related? I get below average MPG compared to other trucks in my same model but I have no vibrations so I'll rule this new finding out haha

NHTSA can be a powerful ally unless GM has already paid them off handsomely to keep their mouths shut.

 

I was appalled about 15 years ago when I started to investigate the erratic steering in my 97' GMC truck (first model year using variable speed steering). At a 40-50 mph sweeping turn going down the road, the steering wheel would violently jerk out of your hands. There were thousands of complaints on NHTSA website including other 97'-99' GM model vehicles. Not one GM recall or TSB came out as a result of it to fix this massive safety issue.

 

Could it have been by 99' there were over a million GM vehicles produced using this flawed steering system? You be the judge. The cost to GM to fix the issues would have been in the $$ hundreds of millions.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure it's stated earlier in this thread that the vibration fixed by replacing the motor mounts is a different vibration than the non-curable vibration people here are still complaining about. I'm pretty sure there are some that stated replacing the motor mounts didn't fix the vibration they were experiencing. Note these two types of vibration are yet still different than a third type that is originating from the tires. There appears to be 3 different common vibrations people are experiencing and 2 have solutions, one does not.

To all of you: I posted POSSIBLE FIX for a reason. I don't have any issues with mine and I'm not going to read through 200 pages, I was just trying to help and give incite on this situation. I'm not a GM rep and its not on me so I really have no reason to feed anyone bs. The fact of the matter is this did fix his problem and his truck is running smooth now, take it for what you want.

I will ask that but I believe it was not at 65-70 mph, his was a lower speed issue. It wasn't ring gears because they said the only replaced motor mounts. That may mean some were missing or not properly installed, there is not telling.

I'll get a build date off his truck when I visit him next.

If your motor is vibrating and is not properly secure it will absolutely increase mpg after fixing it. Pull a couple of yours out and report back to everyone... Maybe you'll even get better mpg, you should definitely try it! I even hear taking off your lug nuts will help from the weight reduction, try that too but only at highway speeds.

Rule out what you want but this is what happened.

I have to see if he still has the paperwork. I know he wont have the part numbers but possible to get the recall number.

You might be right, I haven't visited this page for a long time and definitely did not read through almost 200 pages. Just hoping to help, that's it.

Solved my vibration, buy back, refund, then bought a Ram eco diesel.

This was my best solution for my brain, and keeping my future value and vehicle risk of failure behind me.

Just for the record, my truck had 40-50 mph vibration, shifting issues, and low mileage to fuel numbers.

I have said right from the start that the transmission is the issue to most peoples vibration issue here.

I always truely enjoyed driving GM trucks, but the times they are a changing, and GM has big issues with this new truck, and possibly engine/tranny.

I will post pics my truck when I pick it up.
