My truck had the vib when i took it out for the test drive. It had 4 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. They told me it was a simple fix.

 

On one repair they gave me a 2016 Silverado and it should worse than mine. I really hope GM works this out. They do have a great truck.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone experienced a change (for better or worse) by putting better tires on the vehicle (i.e. the Michelin's I keep hearing about)?

I went with BFGOODRICH All Terrain KO2's, it was my last resort before looking to trade the truck in. Luckily mine was fixed by that, but my vibes were not as bad as most other member, thankfully

I found out something that may be of interest to some. I work for a Junior College that has a GM Certified Training School (many other major manufacturers do as well). I spoke to the lead GM Instructor if he as ever heard of vibration issues in 14 and newer trucks? He immediately said "yes, very common, they make the frame so stiff it tends to manifest itself in steering wheel" I told him my story about Dealer replacing all Goodyear tires and Road Forced Balanced" them. But, still vibrated. Told him I took it in again and they RFB's one tire again and told me everything was now within GM Spec's. He indicated that the Goodyear's were not great tires, and suggested Continental tires if on a budget, or Michelins if you can afford them. So, he went on to say that RFB, if not done correctly will not necessarily balance tire properly. So, IMO he was aware of the issue and said I need to get RFB's by recently instructed Tech. on RFB's. He clearly said many of the tires were flat spotted, especially if they sat on the dealer's parking for a long time.

 

Here's the part that blew me away: When I was talking to him in the School's shop, I noticed the students were working on relatively two new Silverado's. They were working on electrical systems as they both had their hoods up. I asked "where do you get these slightly used trucks'? he said "they are "buy backs", where he surmised the customer just insisted on a buy back because dealer was not capable of RFB's or they just thought the slight vibration is simply not acceptable to them. So, now we at least know where these trucks go. They are not put back on the street, but rather donated and I assume GM gets some form of tax break. Makes sense to me.

 

So, I believe many need to find a dealer with a Tech. who has taken a recent RFB class offered by Hunter, and insist the newly trained Tech does the work. This helped my vibration significantly. Do I think it is the "cure all'? No, but in my experience it helped to level where I can live with it, assuming it does not get worse in time. My dealer claims it is now in Spec. when the recently FRB's and Pico'd it. If this is true, GM's level of acceptable of tolerances certainly suck.

Unfortunately not all of the trucks are donated to a schools or shops. there have been many many cases of people finding their own trucks that they had "bought back" for sale again on the dealers lot. Similarly if one files a lemon law case and opts for a cash settlement instead of having it declared a lemon and repurchased by GM, those trucks do NOT have their title branded as such. any vin check will still show a clear title even though the truck is a mess. Theres ALWAYS a loophole they can slide through.

I finally got 4 tires with the rfb numbers 6 and under. 90% vibration gone. The only problem I have is when I change my tire for snows in the winter. Right now it was covered under warranty but what happens when I need to change tires? I do not want to dismount these seeing how they finally got it right. I don't think I should have to fork up money for new rims for my snow tires especially when they ran fine on my 2013 silverado with all the same options.

Keep asking the dealer to fix it. Have they checked pinion angle, etc?

Flew into FLL today and picked up a 2016 Siverado 2wd with 412 miles at National Rental Car. Got on the turnpike and oh wow...never been in anything that shook that bad. It is manageable below 65mph. Above that it shook the bottle of water right out of the center console. I would be pissed if I just had bought that truck.

Well this is my first go at the dealer with vibration issues. I have new tires and they were just balanced. Took it to the dealer and he said its common for these 2014 trucks to be out of balance. i laughed to myself because i knew that would be the first thing he said. i did have him drive with me and he noted the vibration, ill let them do whatever need be and if the truck still shakes when i pick it up ill turn right around and go back. Wish me luck. I can say they gave me a 2016 as a loner with 800 miles on it and it was smooth as silk from 70-75.

I've removed the snows and put the 22s back on. Different vibration than before. Starts at about 115 and goes away about 128. Convinced its tire related. My service manager agrees says he will road force balance them again. I tell him he gonna wear that hunter out. I'm going for replacements, hoping Michelin.. wish me luck. There's only about 8000kms on them and they're already whining on the highway. Bridgestone Duellers... had them on my 2009 louder than a tractor trailer with 30k on them. I suppose I could drive speed limit OPP pretty expensive at 130. GM makes a great truck though aye.

I don't trust GM as far as I can throw a 2000sq ft house. lol. The fact that they have known about this problem since 2013 when the 2014 MY was released and they still haven't fixed it is utter bullsh*t. In addition, if the #1 concern at the dealers convention was the vibration, that means that there is one h*ll of a lot more than only a few.

 

In other news, I have changed my servicing dealership, I am now taking my Chevy to a GMC dealer. I physically went in and talked to the service department and asked them if they have had anyone coming back with a vibration in the trucks, he nodded his head yes.. I asked if they have had any luck removing or alleviating the vibration, and again he nodded his head yes. I replied, RFB tires, replace tires, replace rims, replace driveshaft, replace rear end, adjust timing and exhaust pressure, lift body off frame slightly? nodded yes again. To keep this from getting any longer, I have an appointment for Friday morning to take the shop foreman for a ride, he will also be looking at trying to fix my radio problem...

    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
