So Ab, did it help with the trued tires? No vibrations?

I would say an improvement but not a fix, they are still there and just like before they come and go in intensity. Sometimes it's smooth, other times it shakes but not nearly as severe as before i started swapping things and not nearly as bad as some of the videos I have seen over the last couple years. Temperature seems to play a role as well as fuel level just like many others have stated.

On the 2018 Silverado it listed a stronger and stiffer frame is in the works.

Customer conclusion the frame is too stiff and GM thinks it's not stiff enough?

 

Also, stated the sheet metal will be mostly aluminum and appears GM is going to get on the V-6 Teapot band wagon. However, there was no mention of changing the logo to Ford.

Guess they will have to pull their ads bashing Ford for using aluminum.

When I first read the article I thought it was parody. But, it was a serious article. I'm one of the lucky one's who doesn't have the problem with my truck and I've never rode in one with the shaking/vibration problem. So, it's difficult for me to size it. However, having read this thread regularly, I have come to the opinion that the root cause has to do with the more stiff and rigid frame being used from the 2013 models on. That, along with the steel sheet metal under certain conditions causes a resonance and/or harmonic vibration. I'm guessing this is why GM in 2018 is going with an even stiffer more rigid frame along with aluminum sheetmetal. Aluminum doesn't resonate or transmit vibration to the degree steel does. I'm thinking this is why we don't hear of this problem in the Fords. But, then again I could be full of crap

And I'm at the complete other end of the spectrum, I really wish I could find someone with one that didn't vibrate. I'd love to take a ride in a good one just to know that they really do exist.

 

Where in the Dallas area are you ? I'll be in Westlake tomorrow, I think my flight lands around 11 AM local time.

I live in an unincorporated area that's wedged in between Lewisville on the west, Plano on the east and Carrollton on the south. Name of the community is Castle Hills. I just returned home yesterday from back surgery (stenosis, L1~L5, two rods and bucket of screws). Anyway, can't drive for awhile or I would seriously see if we could hook up for lunch. When on these blogs for awhile we all develop perceptions of some of the players. You strike me as one of a group that I would characterize as "the objective thinkers". Others, well.... There's a myriad of motivations and objectives, too many parse, that these could the categorized in. Back to the vibration though; I haven't been able to determine if the most frequent occurring complaint is vibration and noise caused by road conditions or is the source inherit to the truck? If it's external (road) then I come down on the side "hey, it is a truck". And, even if it cost $50k+ it's still a truck. Maybe, because I learned to drive in my grandfathers 1951 Chevy truck on wash board dirt roads around his east Texas farm I have different expectations, don't know. West Lake is a nice area, wife and I considered building there, and Argyle, several years ago. If you like good ole southern food, have your hosts take you to Babes, in Roanoke, for lunch. I am currently battling the same vibrations found in every other 2014 Silverado, I have replaced shocks, changed pinion angles, replaced Ujoints, and drivelines professionally balanced, five different sets of tires since April, we have manually balanced the rims themselves, Bilstien 5100 shocks, re-torqued and re seated body mounts, and even weighted the exhaust in various locations with little to no help. I have made one observation that the 2016's seem to have a slightly different body mount bracket, don't know if that was something GM is doing to combat this or not but makes me wonder. Has anybody actually attempted to use a different body mount or just simply replace the ones that are there? I have thought a few times about removing one to dissect it to find out exactly what makes it work or not work in this case, I have theorized that perhaps the mounting bracket on the frame is not in alignment with the cab in some cases but haven't done anything to back it up yet. My case is a little different because I need to run E rated 10 ply tires due to puncture concerns, my truck seems to be pretty darn smooth for the most part when I put the factory five ply tires on it but they simply won't do for what I use the truck for. I can't believe that a GM engineer hasn't leaked some type of fix no matter how drastic to the public so we can simply go fix these things ourselves or at least make them better, I really like this truck and would be willing to do some pretty major modifications for a good solid fix if I knew of one

I have 2,200 miles on 2016 crew standard bed and I have No big vibrations but I feel a little in the gas pedal.Im thinking vibration is so light I can't feel it in the seats.when I give it gas the the pedal seems to vibrate very minimal.

Your vibration is probably coming from exhaust harmonics, mine does the same thing, i can hear the exhaust tone and feel the harmonics at the same time and only when giving a little more gas to speed up on the highway or when the engine starts to lug going up a hill.

Yes that sounds right,only when it under acceleration load,I never really got on it heavy didn't realize it maybe exhaust.Thanks

I'm rooting for you guys with this issue hope it get resolved,it bothers me to think GM hasn't figured this out.I personally wouldn't want to make another truck till I fixed the problem.I don't blame others buying another brand,but for me I rather be driving a Symbolic American vehicle before I go to my coffin and I willing to deal with whatever issues till that day comes.My next move maybe to buy a older truck do full restore the way I want it and drive a real American Vehicle.The price we pay now I think I would be better off although I like some technology that comes with newer vehicles.my 2 cents worth.

Haven't had any time to do any of my own diagnosis or get the on car balance, I put in 12 hours each day this weekend on a network move project for a client. Not fun.

 

On my way to work this morning though I noticed a 50mph vibration that I hadn't ever felt before. Not sure if it was a one time deal, if I had just never noticed it before, or if it's a new recurring issue. It was a much slower vibration than the one at 75mph. I'll keep monitoring it. Ugh.

 

I want to keep modding my truck, already have amp steps and a Corsa sport cat back, but I feel like there's no point if I can't get rid of this vibration. I rolled over some negative equity when I got the truck so I'm pretty much stuck in it anyway unless I want a different headache to deal with. If I can't fix the vibration I'll just have to deal with it and won't ever want to finish mods. :(

I have a similar 50-60 mph vibe in my truck, but it is sporadic. Some days it's there, some days the truck is butter smooth. All my high speed vibes don't exist now after getting these all terrains a while back. But that 50mph vibes feels almost as if it's lugging sort of, kind of lopey if that makes sense. Doesn't bother me enough to worry about it though. I also am continuing the mods on mine lol

    • I would have to read back to get a better picture in my mind of some of the other comments and what they were using for a driving scenario they based the fuel mileage off of. That is why the fuel mileage conversation is extremely difficult to make fair comparisons from. If I was to be living in town and only driving around town, light to light and some longer stretches that doesn't have a light every block, and the usual stop at a grocery store and the bank and so on and so forth, my fuel mileage even during the summer time would be so bad with my truck I don't even want to know how bad it would be !. Then add in winter time and idling to warm it up to clear the windows and driving through snowy streets etc, large heavy trucks with gas engines have NEVER been worth crap for fuel mileage and why some little pot licker of a car with wheelbarrow tires and a 1300 cc four cylinder non turbo engine was the ticket to using a mere fraction of the fuel over a full size pickup.    By the way my truck has the 34" tires as its a HC but not the BFG KO3 tires ( that was an option for my truck but the sales guy couldn't figure out what the tires actually were so that never got on the order until it was too late to change the truck order ). So what fuel mileage your getting actually sounds good for "town driving" and with my truck when I go to town the fuel mileage keeps increasing as I get closer to town because it takes quite a while to get the driveline oils warmed up ( and why it always shows better fuel mileage on the return trip from town because its already warmed up ) but once I am in town that fuel mileage average just keeps dropping the more I mess around town and then has to recover back to something reasonable again by the time I get home for an over all average.    I'd be curious what your sticker says for the factory weight of your truck, mine is close around that 7700 lb due to the options it has. But anyway the long and short is, vehicle weight, higher rolling resistance heavy tires and a hefty driveline and a relatively large gas engine make for crap fuel mileage in stop and go scenarios, all one can do is drive it easy off the line at each stop and as my dad had said over the years, drive like a raw egg is under your foot and that's the best one can do. Years back with a carbed engine and if the carb was getting a bit out of tune etc as would the ignition system, the fuel mileage on pickups with larger engines was just awful compared to what your getting. We pay the fuel price penalty for driving HD trucks over some little vehicle, that is the reality. 
    • We had two Toyota’s with that engine in the mid 80s. We had 50 gallon fuel tanks, a toolbox full of tools, an air compressor and assorted parts for our equipment. We beat those up and down pipeline ROWs until we started buying diesel trucks. Then they became parts runners and first vehicles for our teenagers first cars. Our shop Forman wrecked them both two years apart when we hired him out of high school as an apprentice. Good thing he’s an excellent mechanic. It took awhile before he could be called a good driver.
    • I have a 2025 GMC Canyon Denali.   On a trip recently the engine failed.  The dealership diagnosed a bent valve and says there is a service bulletin that indicates to 'relace the engine'.  The truck only has about 14K miles and is under warranty.   The failure occurred 5/11/2026.   So far I have worked with GM Customer Assistance and Roadside Assistance.  Evidently no engines are available and nobody will offer a date when a new one will be.   Coming up on two months with no repair or timeline and no loaner from the dealership.   GMC Customer Assistance is 'ghosting' me and keeps closing the cases I've opened with no resolution.   Hoping someone can help me on how to escalate this issue.
